Thank you. Since they grow very different from regular cacti, care must be taken when you separate the babies. Let them dry out a bit before planting.

Yes indeed, the greenhouse is my only option as it is impossible to grow these plants outdoors. It is too wet and cold, and there is not enough sunlight.

@@itschris013 I have had the bigger plants for around 10 years. Some of the years were neglected years, as I have decided in the last two to take them seriously again.

I never removed the pups on mine, I just saved the seed to start new plants.

That's interesting because I have never collected the seeds from my plants. Maybe I should look for some. This is surprising because I thought they would be very easy to separate from the main plant. Not so though.

i wouldn't do it either unless the main plant was dying or the pups were rooting on their own. pups are hard to root, slower growing when detached, and it ruins the aesthetics of the clumping characteristic, which is what cacti growers like to see. i bought a copiapoa which had 13 offsets that i removed and tried to root. only 4 survived and i have never liked how the mother plant looks without them.

What is the benefit of separating the babies for the plant?

Generally commercial as I am an Ebay seller, and also for long term growth development. I find that beyond a certain size they are much better off growing on their own roots. 🎉🎉🌹🌹👍👍

is there something wrong in watering a repotted adult lophophora? i just received a colony , i put it in mineral soil and immediately poured a glass of water. Is it gonna die?:((

It should not die. I was just being extra careful because I was splitting them up in a way I never do. Let them dry out , before you water them again and they should be fine. 💖💖

Hi I'm new to KZread and the internet as well my name is Adam I have been growing three species of loaf of Florida that I collected from three different deserts that no longer exist one was turned into a town The Other Desert is now cattle ranch and the Other Desert has turned into a giant garbage dump. I am pretty sure that one of the three species is a variation of a Williams e the other two are very strange one of them grow spines instead of Tufts of fur and when it flowers it produces a pink flower with dark purple stripe one of the other species is from the most southern tip of Baja near Los Cabo in a small area and it grows large orange and yellow flowers if you could please have a look at my videos at that I was able to post it and let me know what you think and if you're interested I would love to share some seeds how's my collection if you are in Canada I am able to also mail a live plant to you. Thank you

Thanks. I will have look at your videos. But generally variation of plant species are always possible, especially when dealing with complex lophophora species.

@@kaowinston thanks for the reply. Yes many varieties with the lophophoras. I have been to many places looking at lots of lophophoras in the wild the williamsii alone as so many variations in southern and northern. The caspitosa is another one that can get confusing for me as I thought it just ment a clumping or clustering type and I have found right with williamsii and I have 5 variations of it that are very different the ones i got in Bolivia will have pups soon as is starts and one i have Guadalajara is very dark and grows faster than and other lophophora and grafts or roots extremely fast from seed will flower in under a year I have had them flower in 8 months. But the very strange thorny one I would find in river beds and would be flowering from October to December in the wild I have seen living under water for weeks and survive cold temperatures. It makes round clusters with small pups that root and litterly walk away from the group and when grafted wich for some reason is very hard to do with it. Then the grafted pup will throw roots witch will reach to the ground and then pull its self off and then will grow a larger tap root than it would of had before and this process it dose in about 12 years wich is fast for a loph and strage if u cut the roots it will grow fast and drop pups with roots. I will try to get my wife to load some video and pics of it.

ham//sounds like an alien cactus! i have never heard of such a thing. i seriously doubt it is a loph. lophs are spineless and willies have pink to pale lavender flowers. most are self fertile. the diffusa branch can have red to white flowers. it was thought some had yellow flowers, but that turned out to be the yellow pollen making the white flower look yellow. they bloom almost the entire year. lophs do not occur naturally in bolivia(although you may have bought from a cactus vendor there who grows them from seed). the mexican state of Queretaro is as far south as they go. there are 4 species of diffusa: koehresii, fricii, alberto-vojtechii, and diffusa. none will hybridize, and none are self fertile and must be pollinated with one of their own to get seeds. these 4 diffusa species are legal to own in usa, although i think california has banned all of them. you may have collected an astrophytum asterias, which has yellow flowers. just google an image and see for yourself.

How long does it take for the cactus to form pups and how long do the pups have to grow to take off?

Because they are slow growing they will take around 3 years and that comes with good weather. Once established to around an inch in size, they MAY start to make pups. But I would not try to remove them till they are nearing an inch in size. Regards. 👍👍💖💖

Place it in moist porous soil in a warm sunny position. Gentle misting to start until it shows sign of rooting. Later as it grows, water and fertilize normally.

Can you get a pup with no root at all to grow roots?

I would say yes, but it may take a longer time to root. Just make sure the soil is very gritty and porous, and be very patient even if it takes a while.

No. I will shade them for at least a week, and slowly expose them to regular sunlight once again. 🌹🌹🌹

@@skrinkles5411 peyote grow usually under shrubs and desert trees so it's better not to put them in sun all day, half a day direct sunlight is better..

how old is the mother plant?

Well, I would say more than eight years old. I bought it as a single plant while travelling through the continent. 👍👍👍

Perhaps it popped that flower due to having the recipient(s) of it's internal force no longer going toward the now separated pups. Survival instinct, if you will. Thanks.

It sounds good. I first thought it will have little energy to produce flowers for a while. But I was wrong and the plant is doing great. 👍👍👍👍
