I've been a silent viewer, but I have to say you are the only "book tuber" I watch consistently. You always put out great content, so thank you! This month I'm finishing my Master's in teaching so my reading is pretty light. I'm currently reading "The Namesake" to teach for a class. In what spare time I do have, I plan to finish reading "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" by Sherman Alexie, which is his memoir he wrote to grapple with the grief of his mother's death.

Dombey and Son is one of my favorite Dicken's books. It is so beautiful and powerful. I still remember passages from that book. It marks a turning point in Dickens when he started to have more fully fledged characters. It is probably his first really mature work.

So happy to hear that you're reading "Dombey and Son." If you truly want to study his novels, this, along with Bleak House, Little Dorrit, and David Copperfield are essential. To me, Dombey and Son is the best novel, and the relationship between Florence and Dombey resonates in its complexity.

I just read dombey and son and while I really enjoyed it I found it deeply problematic. On the one hand Edith (who we all love) is so intensely feminist and Mr Toots has Susan pegged as one too. On the other the main character, while I do love her and sympathise with her is just a little too good, a little too perfect. Like when Florence runs away to Captain Cuttle and then refuses to eat but still does all the housework and fixes his drink for him (which offends me), despite the fact that she is not just really weak at this point, but has also never had to do housework of any kind, and has most certainly never had anything to do with alcohol. She is presented as Dicken's perfect woman but she is definitely not a good ideal for women anywhere. To me Jane Eyre is a lot more realistic. She starts out as this meek little child who breaks out so suddenly and rebels, and while she does revert to the good girl character, it does not bring magical rewards for her or erase her independence.

November TBR: Nonfiction November! I also made a list of everything on my whole TBR pile and checked ratings on Goodreads. Sometimes I bring home random books from my library free cart and read the first chapters at year end to see if they stay. Less than 3.5 stars is Goodreads saying: 'yeah...try a chapter of that dumpster fire.' Sometimes books are on the free shelf for a reason, but sometimes it's one of those rare books that are all 1 star or 5 star ratings.

Hi! 😁I wouldn't quite recommend starting with the Blood of Elves. There are two books before blood of elves. They are collections of shorter stories and in between those stories you get parts of the story that then continues over the rest of the series. You also get to know Ciri, understand who she is and how Geralt found her. If you want to understand what's happening in the series better and appreciate it more, I would start with the Last Wish, then the Sword of Destiny and then Blood of Elves. Also, Blood of Elves might be a bit boring for you if you haven't read the books before it. Just my recommendation though. Love your vids. Hope you enjoy the books ❤

Bleak House is my absolute favorite Dickens, but you've inspired me to try out Dombey and Sons sometime! I love how Dickens has all these random people and stories and then connects them all neatly in the end. I love Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell so much because it reminds me of a Dickens book! My November TBR starts with, oddly enough, Steppenwolf! It's the same version as yours too! It's good so far! It feels deep to me, like I want to start tabbing so I can keep track of themes! Maybe you would like A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles? It's a great book about the charming Count Alexander Rostov a Russian aristocrat who is under house arrest in his hotel room so it's all about hotel life. It has a really good narrator too : )

BOTM delivers to the Yukon, but Emmie lives in Toronto!!! there is at least 10 degrees of lattitude between those 2 locations. And Like she said - it's ONLY November. The REAL cold does not usually start until January!!!
