I agree with you on the time frame of when to start a fall garden. It really needs to be as early as mid July to early August. Last year I started much later and ran into problems when the cold weather came.

One thing to remember with timing as you get into October and early November is, even if the temperatures are still fine for these cool weather crops, there is less light per day than in the spring. Carrots, for example, might take 90-100 days or even longer to reach full size. Last year I started some in September 1st, but that was too late. I only got baby carrots by the time the hard frosts came in early December.

I believe I told you that an activist destroyed my mother's garden. Today, I pulled up my squash except for my Baby Butternut and Burgess Buttercup squash which still have fruit ripening on the vines. I also removed my cucumber vines. My new cucumber transplant is beginning to climb the trellis, and I have more cucumbers sprouting. My Late Nagasaki Cabbage seedlings have sprouted, and I'm waiting for the Hilton Cabbage to sprout. I sowed seeds for two zucchini, a crookneck squash, Danvers, Navone Gold Rutabagas, Purple Top Turnips, Tokinashi Turnips, and Cantaloupe. Next on my planting list is potatoes, in two weeks. In mid August, I'll plant Komatsuna, Pak Choi, Kohlrabi, and peas. In September, after the temperature has cooled down a bit, I will plant lettuce, and Malaga Radishes. The Malaga Radish has the best roasted flavor, and they are purple. I'll also sow seeds for my winter tomato experiment, Early Girl Bush, Tom Thumb, and Black Krim. I will also transplant six pepper plants into the polytunnel to see if I can keep them producing all winter. So far, the best producing peppers have been Hungarian Yellow Wax, Jimmy Nardello, Corona di Toro, and Lipstick.

My first frost in zone 8b Nov 15. However Austin, TX is known to be hot up until Christmas sometimes. So should I start cool weather crops end of August or Sept? I emptied out my containers, washing them and preparing for fall. Collard green are naturally a little bitter. Add a tablespoon white vinegar or a little sugar and it will cut that. See southern style recipes.

It seems like a "sales pitch" I recently got my wife into gardening, which is a big deal. Anyway I I sent her your video and the first thing she said was, I don't like it when they try to sell you stuff like garden hoses on reels. I tend to agree and this having to go other places to fully understand the video and the teaching is not a good idea. Love the channel 🙌

I hate this phone. Using Petunias planted between Squash plants. Planted 3 in a row. 1 petunia died, caused creation egg layer produce eggs no longer living. Other two are fine. Hard time for Cucumbers this year. Bought pickler seeds, got one pickler plant, rest were 3 yellow squash seeds. 1 week ago, started early yellow squash, packaged said yellow crooked neck. Have 10 seedlings out 15 seeds planted. Do have a petunia planted between seedlings, see what happens.
