Finding out that the items you hoped would work at the start of a new year weren’t in fact working isn’t a fail, it’s just life. I’ve watched you go from buying all the things out of frustration to carefully applying what you’ve learned about your needs and buying plus destashing thoughtfully. You know there’s no perfect system but you’re getting as close to it as you realistically can. You aren’t just spending money for the dopamine hit. Those are BIG wins. May your new direction help you cope with all the physical things outside of your control . I learn a ton from your videos. ❤❤❤

Hi Sam, I personally appreciate your honesty.I sometimes wonder when watching a video wether or not the person actually uses the items they're promoting,etc...especially ones the companies send free for their review.I as someone with PTSD,and a rough life understand the feel of being able to control something.I am personally trying not to put pressure on myself to use things daily (like if I am sick,or hubby's hospitalized), as well as not to have to stay in one size. The problem for me is that when I grab some random notebook I have I then feel disorganized bc I am all over the place...lol.A thought occurred to me in watching your video is that it could also be a therapeutic thing.Sharing your heart, your honest thoughts out loud!!!❤

This spoke volumes to me! I tried to start the no buy thing, too, when I ran across yours and someone else’s video. I don’t just spend foolishly, but journaling and having some, but not all of the things, was a welcomed relief for me. I’m going through some hormonal stuff, too, and dealing with a teenager and a mom who is entering a new phase of life…I just have been going through it as a single mom. Journaling has been an outlet. I made an Amazon order this morning just to add to my journaling system. It wasn’t quite complete and I felt like this little something I ordered is what’s missing. Who knows, this might not be it either. But I’m with you and I wish I had people like you around me to hang out with. You are so real and relatable.

You are so honest, thank you. You do what is right for you - there should be no judgement, and I'm sorry if you have felt this on your channel. I'm in planner chaos still. I just can't find anything that works. I've been like this for four years. I'm using a small A6 bound week to view at the moment and, while I'm consistent with it, it's too small, not enough notes pages, not enough contacts pages etc. It's just not right, and it is adding to my chaos and stress. I bought two Filofaxes from TK Maxx yesterday - a Malden mini in orchid and a Malden A5 in pear - but the rings are faulty and don't open on either planner. I'm not really a rings girl, but I'll try anything at the moment. Yet... I know they would both have been a mistake. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a regular bound A5 planner (a purple Sigel Jolie planner) and I'm still dithering. Maybe (like you with your normal, basic planner you've bought) I should just go for it and use the standard A5 planner and get on with it. When did planning get so hard???

Last year was the first year ever i stayed in the same planner ALL YEAR LONG, it was an A6 bullet journal in a nanami cafe note. So, at the beginning of this year i was dead set on sticking with it again, it worked all last year for me, that means i should stick with it right? Well, i started thinking about all the things that i wished i could do that i couldnt and how much better my entire bullet journal system would be in rings (cuz then i could have organized sections as well as toss out stuff i dont need to keep forever) anyways, i ended up moving into an A6 compagna, im so happy i bit the bullet just did what i felt like doing cuz i was right, my system IS that much better in rings! Do what makes you happy, no judgment from me!

I bought some different planners to try out this year too. Mostly for size and layout. I suggested a change of darkening the lines between the days in Sterling’s “ weeks”, so the days are distinguishable once you fill them up, and got such push back from customers!! So no planner peace here either. I am using one from Aliexpress and if the grid of the page facing the days would line up with the days page, that would be perfection! By the way thank you for giving me info on the metal tabs you use. I had never seen them before and I bought them and they are so great and useful.

I also like that 1/2" wider that FCC pages are. And, I also like a small footprint for my binder -- don't like the binder to take up lots of space on my desk when it's closed; don't like lots of extra binder above & below the pages or on the sides when it's open. I've been enjoying the Filofax Clipbooks --- very reasonably priced, not a lot of cover past the pages, covers can be flipped together like a spiral notebook, which makes it easier to write on the page that's opposite your dominant hand. Regular tabs do stick out past the covers when the binder is closed, so I started making no-tab dividers cut from cute scrapbooking paper -- and just sized a few mm taller and wider than personal paper. Easy and inexpensive way to change up my planner -- by having seasonal or monthly divider sets.

Over that last couple of years I’ve bought everything going, and designed several “perfect” systems across two or three books - often in response to the magnificent examples I see all over KZread. None of them have worked for more than a couple of months at a time. This year I didn’t even get to February before it all fell apart! I purposefully didn’t use a single planner for personal stuff in February despite having one of everything except a cousin as I know I hate that one 😊. Work stuff has to be separate and is fine in the SI Common Planner, so that’s staying. I spent February looking really hard at what I wanted, what I needed and, at long last, what I was actually going to cope with in a personal planner. First, I separated journaling from planning - they are in no way connected until they come together to create an archive of the year. That raises a couple of additional questions - do I care about what appts I had on January 10th three years ago? Nope. Do I need to change my journal just because the date is 1 January? Nope. Next was where did my goals and progress tracking belong? For me, given my goals will (or are least supposed to) drive my activities, and monitoring my behaviours and activities is how I measure progress towards goals, it makes sense to keep goals and trackers with my planning. Next was how do see my time? For me, my goals are long term - 10yrs, mid term 3-5 yrs, and short term - 1 year. My annual planner can therefore house this year’s goals. The long and mid term goals can be kept separately. My planning is typically done on a monthly and weekly timescale. I don’t need an additional daily spread. I also prefer my weekly in the Weeks format, unlike my work planner which has the vertical timeline. But I hate the size and shape of the Weeks and TN sizes. I want to take my planner with me when out, though I also use my phone as a back up calendar and todo list, so no need for a main and edc planner. A6 is my preferred size, probably because I’m old enough to have used a pocket Filofax for many years before we had any kind of personal device to capture data - including mobiles. My system is now a single JottBook from Leuchtturm for all my goals. I’ve just swapped from the Journal Planner B6 to an Aura Estelle catch all in A6 for my planner. (I’m less bothered than I thought I’d be with the Sunday start on the monthlies as the weekly is a Monday start.) My goals for 2024 are summarised at the beginning of the book and the blank spread after each monthly spread is for a single graph tracking my weight, steps and sleep on daily basis (health is my priority this year). Birthdays and regular commitments and adulting tasks are captured on the perpetual calendar, my weekly todos, meal plans, exercise routines etc and odd notes and scribbles are captured in the pages between weeks. If I need collections, or space for working through ideas, there’s space at the back of the book. My journaling and memory keeping is now back in an A5 hard back book - currently a Ding Bats, though I’ve enjoyed the Leuchtturm 1917 over the years, and I’ll swap it out only when it’s full regardless of the date. I’m done drooling over the systems other people manage to keep up with, well, maybe I’ll drool a little, but in full knowledge of the fact that for me doing that kind planning is more stressful than not planning at all. And I’m fine with it. I hope you all find your peace too. 😊

But I don’t know where to start. Thank you for sharing yours, it’s really cool! Also wanted to share that I bought a Kinbor weeks for $7 and thought I wouldn’t use it, but now it’s my actual to-do list because I don’t feel any guilt writing “take out the trash” in my daily, limited, little box LOL. I’m doing a No Buy/Low Buy year. My rules, no judgement. Planners, stationary, and notebooks are on the list. Yesterday I ordered a 5 Year A6 Hobonichi, some washi tape, and a pencil board. I’m a bit disappointed with myself but I have really thought about this planner for a few weeks. I don’t want more time to slip away, so I just ordered it. If I like the Hobonichi paper, layout, etc, I am going to buy a Hobonichi Weeks. This is intentional, not unplanned, so I am ok with this. Again, my rules. Remember this for yourself. Make your rules. My word of the year is Contentment. I want o to use what I have. I needed a new planner. Ok get it and move on. BTW, I really like that pouch! If I stick with the weeks, I’m going to get it.

MODERATION!!!💚💚💚 Life is lived by integration. I learned this with homeschooling. Public school segregates subjects, like they are individual entities. It is no wonder students are discouraged as to when and where they would use the information. Planners are the same. You do you, Boo Boo. Find your place and excuses do not need to be made. The big challenge with ordering online is one does not really know the purchase until it arrives in the mail. And you are stuck with it. Good, bad, or ugly.

Honestly whenever someone says no spend I just laugh because I know they are going to make a bunch of exceptions or "fail". Low spend works better in my opinion. Because I'm not limited by what I can or can't buy. But it puts my mind into the mentality of do I really need this? Is it worth to buy right now? So I make better choices instead of just mindless spending. Buying one thing instead of three things is still progress

No-buy isn't a thing I can ever do. It makes me... resentful and disappointed rolled with a side of frustration. Currently I write down my wants and evaluate them on Sunday. If on Sunday I still want the (whatever, clothes or electronic thing or even note cards) thing, I buy it. I close out my week on Sunday so I can look back to see what bills were paid and how much 'normal' spending was. I also look into my savings tracker and remind myself why I'm saving. I really did try the no spend thing but in the end it was like I was setting myself up to fail. I'm trying to be more intentional with my spending. And that includes saving money specifically for planners and related products for next year. A whole ass category just for that. So it won't be random impulsive anything, it's me using the money for exactly what I want at that moment. Hopefully still on a Sunday, I'm trying to manage my tappy tappy click click BUY impulse.

First and foremost, it's important to protect your mental health. If a no-buy, even a low-buy, doesn't work for this season of your life, that's okay and you don't need to apologize or justify your choices. I'm doing monthly no-buys, and what I'm learning from it is how to be more *intentional* about my spending, and developing a more healthy relationship with my finances, and that's really what I find most important about the concept, for me. I'm with you in that using my planner helps with my anxiety, and it's a point of control, an eye in the storm. I'm glad you're recognizing and making it a point to prioritize your mental health.
