Planet Zoo is in the top 3 games of my total playtime list. It is definitely a game that animal and building game lovers should try, as you said. But I need to add that although it gives a sense of achievement and contentment through hard work, it is draining as well. This game, for me at least most of the time, was not really a game that I would open just to relax. To cut it short, I do need to "keep a break" of literal months from the game to come back with full motivation and continue until I am satisfied or too tired from it again. Nevertheless it is one of my favourite games, and even if your end rating surprised me, I do agree with your ratings overall. Loved the video and great shots of your zoos!

One main feature i miss in this game it's hunter/prey relationship between animals. Like i just want create an balanced ecosstem with predators controling population of animals when they alteast hungry. Not just killin everytjing and everyone just because + some hunting animations would be good too.

And you are right Rudi. Animmals and everything about they behavior can be waaaaaay more detailed with AI helping

My main gripe with the Planet series is that it's quite clunky to make something beautiful.

As we know, you are a fair fan, and that is great. It helps getting realistic information. For me, you over-value the completion aspect. Missing fish and birds is ... Unfortunate (but understandable), but not as important as other categories. Using your comparison: I rather play a great sports game that lacks some teams/players/competitions than a mediocre game with everything in it. That said; I totally agree with your per-category scores. Regards from the Netherlands!

Ich finde die Bedienung etwas hackelig und für Neueinsteiger sehr schwer zu lernen. Das UI und die Menünavigation sind zum Teil der größte krampf. Ich Will das Spiel zum runterkommen spielen und kriege da oftmals Aggressionen, weil ich zum Zoopedia und zurück springen muss um bestimmte Dinge über die Tiere herausfinden und generell die Übersicht über den Zoo zu behalten ist eine Qual, gerade im Szenariomodus.

Hola! ja, tue ich zum Glück :D aber nicht mehr so viel wie früher. Spiele schon gerne Aufbauspiele, Cities Skylines, Planet Coaster und dann ehr für mich Anno z.B. Aber bissl Valo und so war auch dabei :P

"...even just looking at the animals you'll have a hard time finding repetitive animations." I had to stop the video there to ask what you're on, because it must be good to make you that blind. One of the big reasons i stopped playing is how tired i was of seeing the same animations looped over and over. The worst time of poor animation selection was when 5 lionesses woke up at the exact same time, walked over the the barrier shoulder to shoulder, stopped all at the same time, all played the look left, look ight animation 3 times at the same time, spun around on the spot in unison, then the finally desynced and returned to be individuals.

I honestly don't have it that often for the same animal. Yes you are right tho, when they are next to each other it sometimes appears

@@RudiRennkamel It's a case of observation bias, i guess. I'm biased because i observe the animals more than i build for the animals, so i see more repeated animations.

I get them having conservation issues with adding orcas and dolphins to the game, but then again polar bears, elephants, and some of the animals they have added also never belong in zoos... Just stay away from the classic trashy aquatic parc items, or closet-sized pools, and force players to give massive naturalistic habitats for them! Add a disclosure that they don't believe these animals actually belong in captivity.

Does not look like it's something I'd enjoy playing. I'll rather watch people build stuff on livestream. Thanks for the thorough review though.

I always wanted to like Planet Zoo, as I love animals and was looking forward to zoo gameplay, but it never really happened. And that is because this game can't really be played casually. You kind of need to love building in this game in order to have an enjoyable time. And for that the building mechanics are just far too complicated (even with your great tutorials). If I'd return to the game after a month, I'd need to completely relearn everything. Nope, that's not happening. I'd rather play Sims 4 for instance where one can still build pretty intricate things, but with a bit less effort and easier controls. I think my watch time on your building videos is higher than my own playtime in Planet Zoo... and I'm sad about it.

I really hope there is no Planet Zoo 2. I mean, I've spent so much money in this game and they've taken so long to release all these animals that it'd be so disappointing to immediately see another game that's exactly the same thing but better announced.

@@RudiRennkamel Hmmm see, here's the thing, I love building but as a biologist, the main reason why I play Planet Zoo is the animals, so it's hard to say. I think an overhaul for exhibitions would be great, to begin with, to make them more customizable would be one of the most important things.
