Plane Spotting at its BEST! INCREDIBLE Classic Aircraft action at Detroit Will Run (YIP/KYIP)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to Detroit Willow Run Airport - YIP. This airport located west of downtown Detroit is home base for airline like USA Jet, Ameristar and Kalitta Air as well as a main focus city for Aeronaves TSM. This airport has became famous for being a base for aircraft like the 727, MD80 and DC9 as well as many other classic aircraft types.
With Kalitta Air retiring their sole 727 at some point this year, i knew it was time to visit this iconic airport - and I am glad I did. I manage to catch so many interesting aircraft so I do hope you enjoy the video.
Willow Run was built as a bomber factory during World War II where it built 8,865 Consolidated B-24 Liberator

Won't see clamshell style reversers on the 727. Unless way back in the day on some earlier models. The -100 series. And the re engined 100 models with Spey engines. Also the 200 series with re engined models.

DC-8 of Samaritan’s Purse, USA Jet DC-9s and now MD-88s, Kalitta Charters Falcon 20s, Aeronaves 🇲🇽 737-400 & other 737 classics and a few DC-9s, a 737-200! WOAH THAT’S a RARE FIND! Re the description, no B-25s or B-29s were built there. It was the largest of several production sites for the Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bomber. Around half of the roughly 18,500 B-24s were built there under license by Ford during WW2. The B-24 remains the most-produced multi-engine aircraft and the most-produced U.S. military aircraft.

Some great catches there. It's sad that it is down to only one operational runway, they still had three just a few years ago. Then a self driving car proving ground was built on the west property, the location of the old bomber plant.

I live literally 2 minutes from the airport- but I've never gone to spot because I don't know where I'm allowed to park and sit and just watch the planes. Again, thanks for the awesome video!
