Even after all the destruction in this part of the world the people are very friendly and giving. Thailand and Cambodia and Laos and Vietnam all have a very special people with the most beautiful landscape in the world. It is a place everyone should see. The people and their culture are so laid back and friendly. These people thrive on helping thei community. I loved every visit I ever made. Many wonders and thrills in South East Asia.

Alex, Judy and I watched together in our home theater for maximum immersion in your rendition of this horrific shameful period that we lived through. We love your thoughtful camera style that pulls us into the experience. We imagined the jars that were blown to bits, and then you gave us the beautiful seemingly unscathed jar standing defiantly on that crater lip. Thank you for another excellent film. -Brad-

I am Hmong, a refugee, and anthropologist. I've been following your videos as an avid hiker from California interested in history. I was very surprised to see something very familiar to me. They say that Laos was the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. I'm glad that your view on archeology includes recent related material remains. I appreciate the wholistically contextual and educational content. Thank you for sharing about the Secret War. For too long Westerners have questioned and distance themselves from our community. This is because we fought in the Secret War, hence, coming in secret. Thank you for bringing into light what was kept secret for far too long--something we can use to bring our communities together.

My father-in-law 2nd Lt Nhialue Vang was stationed at the military camp at the Plain of Jars. My Uncle has only been there once because of the painful and bittersweet memories of war and the separation of families left behind in Laos due to war. It's a beautiful sight and a must see for travelers.

The local Hmong ppl has a folklore that tells of a man (Shee Na) and a woman (Ngao Njua) who were running away. Every evening, they made pots so they can use them to cook with. They couldn't carry the pot with them so they kept making more.

Much such pleasure to review my humble knowledge about The Indochinese War in which all populations were born in three pieces of lands (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) of the world had suffered for decades.I visited Laos in 2010, many villagers asked me: "We met Americans during war, but where they are now. In change, there are many Chinese Business Development all over land of Laos. Only one English class managed by private owner." I pray for all people who were killed there by war including Americans. My Warm Best Regards to all film makers and mindful viewers.

In 1961 upon my nearing completion of military school, was offered a officer commission, assignment to Laos, wearing of civilian clothes and carry of no ID. I respectfully declined and never heard from the 6 other class members. Rich mans war-poor mans fight. No regrets a- this was the start of the secret war that the U.S. said they were not in. Your presentation high-lights a beautiful country and people.

Some Hmong pilots for the Laos Air Force were trained in the U.S.A ( I souldn't say the Air Base). Recall that They had real sharp uniforms and were prowd people. They were training on jets rather than prop and the learning curve was high and some paid the ultimate just training. (Personally witnessed). Sad situation as they were used without proper pay and recognition, although Minnesota did a respectable effort to provide a new home and recognize their war effort.

Larry Willey pretty amazing as almost none of the Hmong pilots had driven cars or seen them in some cases before they learnt to fly. My dad was in Laos in “68 or “69 and did a lot of drinking with Hmong T28 pilots. He and mum ended up getting deported as the CIA and government were not happy with a couple of Australian tourists without visas being there. They had their passports confiscated and before they were deported went to the Australian embassy but it was Australia Day and the lazy pricks there sent them away because it was a public holiday and they were busy barbecuing. Typical public servants.

Alex, I love your channel! I lost all of my archives from 25 years of research in the so-called "Camp Fire" 4 years ago. I have searched over and over trying to find a very profound video in 5 parts from youtube about the Chumash Indians of Santa Barbara. It documented how the city was laid out and the Indians were hired to help survey it. They pissed on the ropes used and the survey got really messed up. This is why the streets are all so crooked and messed up there. The video also revealed sorcery and a mirror placed up in the mountains above town that shown down the central street and messed with people's minds. It exposed that many people went insane in the 1880's there for no apparent reason. It also spoke of the Indians going around a preaching love to the settlers. the video claimed that the Chumash were the wisdom keeps of Turtle Island and that many of the sages from the tribes were sent their when near death to download all of their knowledge to the wisdom keepers. Do you know about this video, or where I can find a copy? Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the 5 part series!

+Kanik Tyler Kanik, the Plain of Jars archaeological sites are intertwined with the culture of the region and the wars that occurred there. After filming the sites I was not sure how to present the primary subject. However, in the end I felt that all three areas were represented. Perhaps, you would have done otherwise and that is okay - its just a matter of preference. Anyway, thanks for your comments.........alex

How I would loved to have been in Laos with you. What an amazing adventure it had to have been and thankfully, you recorded your experiences. My cousin, to whom I referred, used to load bombs daily onto B-52s which he eventually learned were not conducting missions over N. Vietnam but rather were bombing Laos, something he and his crew failed to understand as to the "why" of it all. And, to this day, I still don't get it...

12:33 you have "Linestone." Did you mean instead "Limestone?" This reminds me of an old issue of Mad Magazine I had when I was a kid. The story was about newspaper headlines, and how kids imagined it in their heads. So for example, one headline was about "carpools." So the kid was illustrated as imagining swimming pools in convertible cars. But one said "Guerrillas Attack on Plain of Jars" which showed a bunch of club wielding gorillas attacking over a field of glass jars. I got the joke a little when I was a kid, but little did I realize that the "Plain of Jars" **really** was a plain of jars! ... I thought it was just a name (and I imagined it was in Africa, not Loas).

It seems to me that the US should hire on as many volunteers as possible, put them through a 2 to 3 week safety and handling course on unspent ordinance, then at the US's expense, send them over to teach the course to people in Laos, then go out in a grid pattern, locate and remove the ordinance as SAFELY as possible. Maybe even detonating areas from a safe distance, where safety is a particularly dangerous concern. This would thereby remove the threat to residential and commercial areas primarily. Just a thought.

@Tillerman, one of the Ten Commandments is “thou shalt not murder.” And, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. When a person receives Jesus into their heart, a supernatural peace comes with it. That is the message in my user name: If you know Jesus, you know peace. Would you like to have a peace that surpasses understanding? If yes, you need Jesus. I hope you will remember that Dark times are coming to the world. When all seems lost, turn to Jesus. Just speak as if to a God... “I am here now. I accept now. Please open my heart and be my savior.” Jesus accepts all who come to Him with an open heart, in truth. Sometimes, it takes a brokenness to accept that. I hope you understand this before it is too late for you.

This makes me terribly sad for the people of Laos and others that the US has tried to force its will upon. It also makes me very angry. I missed the draft by only two years, and I thank God I did. No wonder our boys came home in the shape they did. This war was so wrong, but then all of them are. We're told a set of reasons why we need to be in a war, and virtually none of them are true, nor important. What a travesty. You started this video out very appropriately, Alex. Hi Alex I haven't watched part 2 or 3 yet, but your stories and video research always fascinates me. My guess is that since this was the so-called secret war ( most likely driving by the CIA) of southeast Asia being fought simultaneously while American troops for the most part and some Australian back up troops, were witness to some very important strategic territory. Now my second guess, and you may think I'm reaching, is that they were all in a mad dash to retrieve the bones of giants from the ante-deluvian period,or the period right up to the time of the battle of Jericho, the taking of Canaan by the tribes of Israel, of Aaron, Moses and their divided and united peoples. It seems giants roamed the earth on all continents, and that the legend is, the ancient Hmong peoples made a rice wine and served the normal, non Nepthalim people. When they were eventually killed and buried at some of these sights all over, in north and south America, Europe, Asia Minor, Asia Major, Africa, and even Australia. They left remains of jars, temples , carvings, cities, as in Macchu Picchu, the ancient Nile valley, even before Thebes, the ancient Greek mythology , in my opinion , was even based on these strange half man , half animal abominations, written about also in the Book of Enoch in Genesis, in the Book of Numbers, and in many more biblical chronologies. I am only scratching the surface , but I think you know where I'm going with this. That there was money to be made by the gathering of these ancient bones, skulls, skeletons, and tools, and clothing they wore, what technology they had with metallurgy and alchemy. There is a lot more to be explored. I will check out your other videos in the coming days and see what deductions you've made regarding your explorations in the Plain of Jars...

@@storiesbyalex ..I wasn't referring to Vietnam and I'm,sorry you got that impression. It was Laos, that I was referring to. I lived through that too. My point was, while the 5 different sides were emerging on that valley of the jars, I was only suggesting that may be a side operation was to obtain relics or even bones of giants. I know you toured the area as a interested cultural anthropologist, , I guess my trust in the CIA is very conspiracy oriented. Thanks for your service to our country...

That chimney chute was the hideout for north Vietnamese. They had a machine gun at the top to shoot the bomber planes that my father and uncle flew. According to my father, of the thousand bombs dropped, none ever hit the cave because it was too heavily secured and dangerous. My father said sorry for the damages to the jars.....LOL.
