This duet is wonderful. I was Carmen in our community performance of this opera. My Don Jose had a silvery tenor voice, far beyond what one might expect from a community productions. But I'll tell you true: if my Don Jose had been Placido I don't think Escamillo would have stood a chance.

I used to like him a lot...now I can t listen to him anymore...Same thing over and over again for decades.You can t compare him with the greats like Gigli,Caruso,Bjoerling,Corelli,Pavarotti,Pertile,Bonisolli,Giacomini,Di Stefano,Vickers,Tucker,Bergonzi,Kraus,King,Gedda,Melchior etc...the list is almost endless.For sure not the greatest.He is very far away from being the greatest.At least as a singer.
