Doc, Is it required that I complete my one-year internship at a hospital affiliated with my university? Because of COVID-19 restrictions in China, Chinese medical students are required to complete their one-year internship in another country. The question now is whether GMC will deny our applications for plab. Please, shed some light on this. Thank you.

I am an IMG, currently working at Sri Lanka. I have done my internship after the graduation in 2013, as follow 1) Pediatric surgery - 6 months 2) Gynaecology and Obstetrics -6 months After my internship I have worked as follow 1) Medical Office at Out patient department and Emergency department unit (2014-2016) 2) Medical officer of Health (community)( 2016-2018) 3)Medical officer at Renal transplant ICU and ward (2018-2020) 4)Medical officer at Covid ICU and ward (2018-2022) In regard of acceptance of my internship, will my internship 12 months be accepted as valid or will my post intern/post graduate practice period accepted as valid? If that so, what kind of document I should provide to prove my postgraduate practice?

So wouldn't it be a better route if I do my residency in a different country and then apply for MRCP? And if I do, do I have to work in that same department or can I proceed to specialise further? For example, I do my internal medicine residency outside but I want to further specialise in nephrology. Can I train for nephrology or internal medicine again? Please answer me cuz I am quite confused Thanks

Thank you for the valuable info that you guys provide in your videos and blog posts. As you are aware there is serious shortage of Plab-1 places all around the world. I want to know is it a wise decision to pursue MRCP parts in this time till we get a place for plab-1? And also about gmc registration through MRCP, I have read that you have to pass all three parts to get gmc registration. If so can someone with no UK clinical experience pass PACES?

Hello, i have a query, regarding plab and mrcp, if i hv completed my residency in dermatology in my home country, which would be the best option for me to get GMC registration and if i have completed both my residency as well as my mrcp, then, would i have to go for IMT or will i get directly ST3 trainning in dermatology as a registrar. Thank you...

You would need to prove your alternative core competency to join at an ST3 level. As is, if you've completed MRCP, you'd be eligible for GMC registration.

Hi , a really nice and informative video , thanks for helping us out . I have one difference of opinion , though . You mentioned multiple times that Plab is cheaper than royal College exams . I don't understand the logic. May be it is like that for someone residing in UK . But not for someone like me who lives outside of uk ( india , in my case ) .Let me make my case . If I do plab , the exam cost alone would be 240 + 906 = 1146 . But when I consider other costs like the money that I have to save in my account to get plab 2 visa ( around 3000 pounds ) , the plane tickets to uk ( around 1000 pounds to and fro ) and also the expenses of coaching academy and day to day expenses in uk for writing plab 2 , the total amount required would add up to around 6000 pounds or 6 lakhs Indian rupees . But when it comes to MRCS ( which iam planning to take ) the exam cost alone may be more than plab ( 550 + 997 = 1547 pounds ) . But the catch here is that there are centres available in India for both MRCS part A and Part B ( in delhi and hyderbad for part B ) unlike plab . So I won't have to travel outside India to write any part of MRCS and if I plan it out carefully , I don't necessarily have to go outside uk until I get a job after gmc registration . So the total cost of MRCS , including the coaching and travel expenses , will only come to around 2000 pounds ( 2 lakh Indian rupees ) which is way cheaper than plab . So for somebody like me who is residing outside of uk , isn't MRCS a better option for GMC registration , strictly from a financial point of view ?

We're talking about the exam itself. Many individuals who, for instance, want to take MRCP often have to go abroad for a PACES seat (not necessarily UK- even other countries). Same for MRCS dates- it's not a guarantee you get a local seat and some countries don't offer Royal College exams. So in that case, a person has to travel. Another point- some people don't need visas to travel to the UK. So they have no cost in terms of visa, showing money in the bank, or even much in terms of travel cost. Circumstances can vary greatly and this is why we've mentioned in terms of the exam cost. Regardless, it's a matter of weighing your options and seeing what works best for you. Also, there is no hard and fast rule that your bank must show £3,000 for PLAB 2. The amount to show can vary substantially depending on your stay and where you are staying. Either way- that's not money spent. So if it works for you to take MRCS- good. But that doesn't mean for everyone it would be the cheapest option.

@@RoadToUK ok 👍 I agree . My opinion was a little bit biased based on my circumstances . Based on the exam cost alone , plab is cheaper 👍 . And yes I may not necessarily get a seat in India for MRCS part B , but how I thought of it was , atleast there is a chance to get a seat in India . And regarding the money that we need to save in our account for plab 2 VISA , I am sorry if what I said is wrong . I still don't have a concrete idea regarding the visitor visa processing and so I spoke from what I have heard . Thanks a lot for clarifying 😊

So I have a querry.I started mrcp in my home country back in 2018.I am left with paces only and my eligibility period is till 2025.Unfortunately I had been planning plab for long time but due to limited slots but I am sitting plab I this year and I am hoping ill be done with plab exams by mid of next year.I have done 2.5 years of internal medicine training at one of the reputable hospitals in my home country but that was completed a year back.So first thing for instance if I complete mrcp and plab by end of next year which route will GMC choose to register me? considering I have both things done.Secondly as you mentioned, the reason I am doing plab though I am halfway through mrcp, is enter into NHS, work at ST1 , gain some experience, get familiar with the system before I start working as registar. Please guide me.Am I on the right path?Hoping you will answer my querries. Thanks😊
