PKP Express Intercity Premium - Poland's High-speed Pendolino - First Class Review

Hello, welcome back to another video, this time on the PKP Express Intercity Premium , a high-speed Pendolino train in Poland!
In this video I will take this rather excellent Polish train in First Class from Kraków Główny to Warszawa Centralna (Krakow Main to Warsaw Central). This is a high-speed train, authorised for 155mph, but only allowed 125mph on Polish tracks for now.
I found myself very impressed with the on-board service, as the train whisked me towards the Polish capital along the CMK route at top speed. But is this train up there with the European icons that we all know and love? Find out in the video!
Hope you enjoy, and don't forget to subscribe so you can stay tuned for more content every week.

The 20 Polish Pendolino trains do not tilt primarily because they are destined to travel over the main train routes in Poland, in this journey's case - the Central Rail Line (Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa or CMK) - the fastest and most modern line in Poland. The main train routes in Poland were designed for high speed way early in advance, and thanks to this they are dead straight for much of it's distance. The tilting feature would simply be redundant. Studies shown that the longest Pendolino connection - Krakow to Gdansk (that's nearly entire Poland from south to north - around 400 miles) would only gain around 6 minutes travel time with the tilt option. That's why they never bothered. There was no need for it.

I agree with all you said. I was in Poland for a week about 3 weeks ago and took the EIP from Warsaw to Krakow and back in first class. Very clean, very quiet and very comfortable, especially if you get a single first class...heaps of leg room. Nice little service onboard as well. As good as any equivalent train class in the world. Also loved the ease of access at both ends...Warsaw hopped off #7 tram, down stairs and short tunnel to platform..at Krakow down in lift and straight out into mall and 100m walk to exit to street up an escalator. Was very impressed.

Its the Siemens Velaro model for Russia as I am sure you know, but the fit out is just high end and the service brilliant. I travelled in Economy Plus and even that had a light meal and tea/coffee service with linen set on your tray table! Be cool to see you review that...7 classes to choose from.

This year I went to Sopot for the first time with Pendolino. It's nice to be at the seaside at 5h30m, but it's not the speed of the train, but the fact that the train stops at few stations. In fact, only in several places the ED250 traveled over 180 km/h. When it comes to refreshments, in the second class, travelers get a bottle of water 😉 I don't know what it is like in the first class because I couldn't afford it 😉

Pendolino used to go 2'10 but intercity is about 2'30-2'40 while the cheapest TLK is around 3 hours. The 5 hours trains go a totally different route and serve primarily connections to smaller cities, not Warsaw to Krakow. Unfortunately, there are some further works on infrastructure so all times extended now by about 30 minutes.

It's a pity that, in today's world, we are obsessed with speed. What is wrong with taking your time? I crossed the Nullarbor (Australia) in 1947 on the Transcontinental. We had time to swap beer and newspapers with the navvies, and buy trinkets from the Aborigines on the trackside. The destination wasn't going anywhere. It'd still be there tomorrow! The Warsaw-Wrocław route on which the Pendolino runs is 423 km, not 350 km. In 2015, Pendolino covered this distance in 3.5 hours, which is the best result in history. The infrastructure itself on this route is ok, but it is not a HST (except for the CMK section) and there will never be a higher speed there. The speed is relatively optimized to the geometrical potential. On the other hand, there is actually no new, base line HST Warszawa-Łódź-Kalisz-Wrocław / Poznań.

The curves of the railway line have profiled inclinations up to a 150mm difference in height. That's why the train tilts a little bit, every train, but that doesn't mean it has a tilt. This Pendolino does not have any additional tilting of the box.

i wish to have a good opinion about service of PKP. to Cracow set was old . dirty and slow and packed. Middle seats with tables are horrible if 4 seats are full . no space for legs. Return was almost new clean and nice no pasengers at my car. Fast. Food so so.. german sosages 3 no bed but salad heavy and untaste. heavy . passanger on my right side of hallway complained about polish schabowy. . eaven her small doughter did not want to eat. Cars are hot a nd you have to go to supervisor to ask about lower temperature. the same in LOT airlines . terrrible. especially in pandemic mask i do not understand why train isnt ready for passengers . is like an PRL .. they do not care of passengers. Polish passengers. . i had made 4 trips to gdansk and cracow end of September 2020.
