    Got this smoker this weekend (thanks to my amazing family!) !!! Did a 10.5 lb brisket with dry rub. If you use the meat probe, make sure you put it in a good spot or you'll see some high temps. Also, like he says, the temps are a bit lower than you'd calculate. I pulled at 187 to rest it, but most likely got more like 182. Let it sit in a few degrees longer and you'll get the fat to render better. Still turned out amazing with some great smoke rings! Second shot will amazing!!!

    Your reviews on this have been very helpful. You raised a lot of good points. I haven't purchased a new unit yet. I'm still considering a vertical or grill-style pellet smoker or a gravity-feed smoker. Did you look at other options and why did you like this one more?

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    2 жыл бұрын

    I looked at all other options. I chose the chamber style smoker because of the increased amount of cooking space. I’m old-school when it comes to steaks/burgers/wings and such. If I want a sear on something I’m going to do it over hot charcoal. That’s why I chose not to get the barrel type smoker with the sear plate. I like that my unit can run for several days without stopping on a full hopper of pellets if need be. The gravity fed charcoal unit seem to go through charcoal pretty quickly. I can also get charcoal pellets to put into this unit if I want some charcoal flavor. I hope this answers your question. If you’re not already , it would be great to have you as a subscriber to the channel. Thanks!!!

    Hello love your videos! I have been a egg head for years, but I decided to try the pit boss because of the set it and forget it controls. I noticed your smokers temperature control is in 25-50 degree Increments. That was one of the main reasons why I was skeptical about buying the pit boss vertical smoker but I decided to buy it anyway. I have to say I was very surprised and shocked that my unit’s Control panel actually worked in 10° increments. Wasn’t sure if you were aware of this or not so I decided to send you a message. Great review! Thanks. I have same model for 2 month now. Just found out that when you preheat the smoker to 350F and put a chicken to smoke in there, there is no smoke coming whatsoever?! Called the company and got an answer that the smoking temperature is between 150F to 250F. Is that correct? Please advise how to smoke meet at a higher temperature and actually get smoke inside of the smoker. Thank you.

    I’m a new owner of a smoker. I can’t wait to start using it. However, I have a question about the meat probe. How do you use the probe? The manual doesn’t explain use of the probe. For instance, how do you get the probe inside where the meat is cooking? Someone told me that you run it in through the door. I didn’t think that was right because it looks like that would interfere with the seal around the door. The control panel show mpc and mp. How do you use these? And my smoker came with one probe. Please help me figure this out. Thanks!

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    A few easy fixes. You definitely run it through the door. The seal is soft and closes with no problem. You received 1 probe. There are two ports. Port one is programable. • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes I have. Funny enough, the cure for me was to just keep cooking. There are small spaces between the metal between the ash pot and the cooking chamber. The more I have cooked the more those spaces have gotten clogged with ash. I no longer have the problem. It was bad when I first started though. I'm sure there is probably so high heat sealant that you can get if you want to take the express route though. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. Hey boss I had a quick question is it normal for there not to be as much smoke as other pit Boss models, I Hava a copperhead 5 series as well and dude it produces THICK clouds of smoke. So I ask is it normal for the pro series not too

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    3 жыл бұрын

    Man, from what I have learned, this is normal for the vertical. A lot of people consider the thick smoke to be “dirty smoke” and say that all you want to see is a light clear to almost light blue smoke. I’ve noticed that I get more smoke when I reach temp as opposed to when it’s heating up to temp. If your wanting more smoke flavor then let it run for a while at the start temp for a few hrs. Some people call it the smoke setting. I’m also considering getting a smoke tube for increased smoke flavor. I’ll do a video on it when I do. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Why does your panel numbers blink the whole time. Mine doesn't do that? Also the first 2 times I used it, my smoker would stop at the temperature I set it at with just the wheel. After it wouldn't. It keeps going up and up until I plug in the mp thermometer. Then it goes up and down and finally gets to my set temperature and stops. By then I lost 45 min of pellets. I would like to just use the wheel to set my temp and forget about it like the first 2 times I used it. Anyone else having this issue?

    Fill hopper with pellets, power on, hold prime butting until you hear pellets falling into burn pot. Continue to hold for another minute or two. Turn temp to 350 or higher and let run for 30-60 minutes. Make sure to have your chamber door open until you start to have smoke rolling. Then you close the door and crank up the heat. This burns off the impurities.

Read the label to make sure yours is. I did make a creole butter injection and I injected. Turned out great. I wrapped my Turkey in butcher twine to avoid drying out the legs and wings. I may not do this on my next bird. I like that dark meat to be falling off the bone. Wrapping left a bit more pull to the dark meat, considering I pulled the bird once the breast reached 165 IT. I wonder why your pellets swelled? Did you leave them in there for a long time? From what you said, it sounds like you had just put them in there. I usually fill mine half way and I have not had any problems. I would say to just monitor your unit regularly and if you think there is an issue with the pellets feeding into the burn pot, hold the auger button for about a minute to force feed the pellets. This is also a good way to get a faster increase in temp. Good luck on your next cook. Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. It would be great to have you as a subscriber! Thanks!!!'

    No chips, no crushed charcoal. This unit is made specifically for pellets. Lucky for you, Pit Boss has charcoal pellets! I’m the same way as you. I like that charcoal flavor. There are a wide variety of different types of pellets you can use for different wood flavors as well. I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hey my friend! It all depends on what the pit bull a trying to do. If it's just maintaining a steady temp with a closed door, it's going to need less pellets. If it is trying to raise the temp it will run for longer. This is going to be effected by the temp outside as well. Some pellets burn hotter than others too so it will not need as many. I hope this answers your question. Let me know. Thanks for watching my video and for commenting. It would be great to have you as a subscriber. Thanks!!!

    It really all depends on outside temp. If its cold out close it a little more and if it's hot out open it up more. Thermodynamics and hot air rising and such. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Usually, I try to use Clorox wipes after cook while the glass is still warm. That don’t always happen though! Haha If I have a good buildup I will lift the door off the hinges, easy to do, and clean it with the water hose and scrub brush. I usually use simple orange as a cleaner, or dish soap. A lot of people recommended over cleaner. I’m about to make a total chamber cleaning video and I’ll be using oven cleaner. Here are a couple videos I have on cleaning this unit. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXh_yMuSpNPglNY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYtqx6ydccWqhqQ.html Thanks for watching my video.

    Good morning , i purchased it few months ago after used Masterbuilt electrical for a year + when i did my first salmon i was very bad surprised. The taste was almost like in the oven without any smoke. Tried to dig a little in the forums to see why is it and so that pellet smoker indeed less aggressive than wood/electrical. i tried to use the pellet tube in addition , but still, the gap was so far... Dont know, maybe i am doing something wrong? The air inside smoker was absolutely clear during the smoking. i used 220 degrees temperature. Can u help me, currently i am absolutely down with this model.

    I have an electric smoker that uses wood chips, obviously if you want less smoke, you use less chips because you have an element for a heat source. I don’t like an overwhelming taste of smoke on the meat obviously on a pellet smoker you are using the pellets for your heat source and smoke flavor but I am curious as to how strong the smoke flavor that a pellet smoker produces and how to control it with cooking, low and slow?

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

    @TheAmericanSmoke

    If you don’t enjoy strong smoke flavor, a pellet smoker is perfect for you. No strategy needed. The smoke flavor is mild and clean. Honestly, most people are always working for ways to increase smoke flavor with these units.
