    These do make great smokers and grills. However, I bought me a 55-gallon barrel that was filled with corn oil. I cleaned it very well and then proceeded to buy some metal handles for the sides and top lid. I personally built my grill, rack and fire pit by hand using some old scrap metal lying around the shop. After all was welded up, I painted it with High Heat Spray Paint. Total investment: $55.00 including the paint. Total build time: 3 hours.

    G'day what a great grill! It's well made has everything you need to start smoking or grilling and they supply even the screw driver and spanner to attach the lid to it great! I only wish that you could buy them down here in Australia, we still have not gotten over our thinking that you need a gas bbq to cook with, I use charcoal and smoke and grill with it and it's terrific thanks for showing it in detail kind regards John Tasmania Australia.

    joe watson I took it to 165° hanging in then and took it off wrapped it and laid it flat until it reached 200. Then I took it off the heat wrapped it in a towel and let it sit for two hours. Probably wasn’t the largest brisket but there’s lots of great videos of how to monitor your temperature with the pit barrel cooker.

    You know when someone has an idea that's so smart because everyone is so stupid? People have been making these things for years. My grandfather made one out of a road culvert about 60 years ago. It could fit over 40 rings of garlic sausage in 1 cook. Edit: like seriously, its ridiculously easy to make one of these for yourself with a few oil drums and some basic tools and it'll fit your needs a lot better in the long run.

    1. How do you regulate the temperature on these pit barrels? Is it the vent at the bottom? 2. I noticed alot of coal ash floating around. Is that a problem with it getting all over your meats?

  • @TheHollarBBQ

    @TheHollarBBQ

    5 жыл бұрын

    Crunch the vent at the bottom should be placed at the recommendation from Pit Barrel. You shouldn’t have to be touching it once set. What I do is light it just like pit barrel says. If the temp is too low just crack the lid just a bit. Like maybe half inch. That will raise the temp. Once it gets where you want it shut it back down. But don’t touch that bottom vent. I don’t get ash from my coals when cooking only when cleaning it out. What coals are you using?
