Pissed in Perth A different look at Western Australia's Capital City

2 days in Western Australia's capital city Perth, on first day I check out all the local beautiful beaches, Trigg beach, Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough beach and more. Second day I head into Perth central and then down to Elizabeth Quay for a few drinks. I then catch a hour long ferry ride to Fremantle with all its amazing views on the Swan river, to some more breweries and the famous Fremantle Market. #perth #genxplorers #westernaustralia #fremantle #visitaustralia #visitperth

Love your vid...........as a fellow GenXer.......13:50 just letting you know that the reason why it is known as the City of Lights is because: Perth, Western Australia, became known worldwide as the "City of Light" when city's residents lit their house lights and streetlights as American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the Earth on Friendship 7 in 1962. The city repeated the act as Glenn passed overhead on the Space Shuttle in 1998. Noiyce one! I'm a Brissie native, but have been living over here for the past 13 years. x And also, 14:15 it's Gage Road! You actually said "Cage Road" twice.............actually, I think I'll stop now, because I loved your video, but I can't help myself!!! xx

Also not many wooden houses because we have termites that can eat almost anything in no time. Local wood jarrah lasts a bit longer - but still eventually gets eaten

Don't know much do you! WA has pine plantations in the South West where rainfall is heavier. Lots of houses currently built with treated pine frames- termites don't eat them. Older houses have Jarrah frames, even some were clad with Jarrah boards but Jarrah became too scarce and expensive. Termites do NOT eat Jarrah! My 80 year old house is Jarrah framed- no termite damage.

@@bluedog7321 yep - we have century-old house with lots of jarrah too. The house is still fine, but some less substantial and more dried-out outbuildings erected at the same time were eventually attacked by white ants. Mind you, they have been chewing on them for about a decade without any real loss of structural integrity to the sheds.

No we turned our Lights on for Astronaut Glenn as he passed overhead in 1962 City of light - 50 years in Space On February 20, this year, WA will celebrate the 50th anniversary of a very significant event. On that day in 1962, John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth in the Friendship 7 spacecraft. On this mission, Glenn flew over Perth and the people of Perth turned on their lights to acknowledge his mission. Glenn observed that the city was clearly visible from space and Perth became known worldwide as the ‘City of Light’. This early space exploration mission set the stage for the Gemini and Apollo programs which culminated in NASA landing men on the moon.
