"The compass you bartar from the me, it cannot lead you to this?" So how the hell is it that in POTC 5 it was shown in a flashback that Jack was given it by a dying pirate?

Could be some plot hole the writers created in that movie but from the books Jack has always bartered and traded valuables with Tia Dalma throughout his life and he did get that compass from her originally.

Compass was actually made my Calypso, jack got it from the pirate but it actually belongs to Calypso, that's why she said it's her

I think it was "Jack's crew" and not "just Jack" that got the compass from Calypso. I mean, Jack's captain (the one who dies fighting Salazar) and Jack (probably his first mate) got it from Tia Dalma. Then the captain dies and gives Jack the compass. BOOM plot hole explained and the betrayal thing isn't even a plot hole. Jack didn't betrayed the compass when he gave it to Will, Elizabeth and Gibbs cuz he knew the compass would've come back to him. Instead, in the 5th movie, he definitely betrays it just to get a fckn bottle. so it's not a plot hole

So Calypso thinks that the reason why Davey Jones carved out his heart was because the pain from loving her was too much to live with. But later Will thinks Jones carved out his heart because of the grief of betraying Calypso and her not being there for him when he waited for her on land after 10 years at sea. But the Flying Dutchman ship requires it's captain to have their heart be cut out regardless if they're in love or not. So which came first? The requirement to carve out the captain's heart? Or the betrayal that led to the heartache? Why does the Dutchman require it's captain to not have a heart?

the betrayal. when Davy Jones carved out his heart he knew others would try to use it as leverage over him. so he put a curse on it that any who did had to have their heart be given in exchange. it's in the deleted scenes of the movie.

In a deleted scene in Worlds end. Davy Jones says he placed the curse of the Flying Dutchman needing a captain. He's to Elisabeth father if you stab his heart yours must take its place.

because he was scared. he didn't want to be anywhere near jones and wanted the chest as well. basically he was conflicted.

@@thanoseid2883 hmm. He knew this was coming, hence why he found the picture of the key. He couldn’t find a heading because he didn’t know what he wanted until he got the warning, the black spot, and set his crew for any sort of land and shallow waters. Deeper waters meant a high chance at crossing Jones, but he still needed the chest and the key, which Jones keeps on him… Am I missing anything?
