    2 things I think should be mentioned: 1: To answer Pippa's questions about cutting, there isn't much of an intuitive answer to people that aren't in that headspace. I've had friends who cut and have worked with kids that have, as well as studied it in university for my Psych degree. Basically it operates on the same principle as an eating disorder except where it's a person trying to take power back into their own hands in a way that they feel it makes sense. People don't eat right and people cut themselves to redirect their pain into something that they feel they have control over when they otherwise don't feel they can have an influence over their pain that's internal. With cutting specifically, the person engaging with self harm tends to think that they are controlling when they feel pain by doing it to themselves nonlethally or they believe the momentary physical pain can distract them from their mental trauma. That's why they don't tend to go for kill cuts. There's also an element of self loathing and suicidal ideation that's linked to it mainly when it's realized that those distractions don't work and now they're getting infections from open wounds on top of trauma, abuse, and or mental health conditions they're going through. Plus there's always the danger of accidentally cutting too deep and hitting an artery. It's not a logical mode of thought but it is a coping mechanism that can lead to death that should be remedied. If you or anyone you care about is struggling with this, there is help out there. Do the world a favor and treat yourselves kindly and seek help or talk to those that seem like they need it. Even the smallest gestures of genuine kindness and respect make the biggest impact. 2: The ABDL thing as a non-sexual response is actually not too outlandish. We talked about this in my Human Sexuality course, where we also talked about furries funny enough, and ABDL came up in our discussions. Sexual ABDL is thankfully not linked to pedophillia and is nor a paraphillia at all, so long as it doesn't interfere with daily functioning. (edit: it is a paraphilia but it's not necessarily a paraphilic disorder. Simply mixed up my definitions, oops. However this soesn't change my point so read on with that correction in mind) The attraction there is still directed at adult bodies and consenting parties but with the makeup of a caregiver/dependent relationship as opposed to bdsm's more broad dominant/submissive split. It is definitely atypical and not my thing, but if you are having fun with your partner in a consenting way and you keep it in the bedroom, good on you chief. The nonsexual bit is similar, but it comes from a trauma response more often than not. Sexual ABDL can result from trauma, but nonsexual ABDL is mainly a fairly extreme form of mental regression. When someone's childhood is messed up and there are long stretches of time where they felt unsafe or unloved, or a recent trauma is too much to handle and their brain gets tired on the stresses of adulthood, some people cope with that to regressing to that age mentally in order to sort of "right the wrong" in a way of speaking. It's the same type of response that the average person might exhibit when processing anger by stomping their feet or falling on their childhood coping mechanisms like hugging pillows or bundling in bed really tightly. These are forms of regression to reinstate familiar comfort, ABDL just is more sustained and more extreme in the nonsexual cases. They want to experience that babyish safety or freedom from overbearing responsibility and their mind kind of goes into autopilot when they hit that point. It's an atypical trauma response, and when it starts effecting relationships, work, daily functioning, or personal health then it becomes an issue that needs to be resolved. Sitting in your own waste and not properly cleaning up or denying job opportunities due to your baby schedule, that's the stuff that needs to be checked for alternatives. Otherwise it's largely harmless so long as it's at a healthy capacity. End of the day with the ABDL thing, people are gonna people. If you're going to publicize it then be prepared to be made fun of. But if you're just doing things that make you happy and you're not hurting yourself or others and you're otherwise a functional and active adult in society, who am I to say you're doing stuff wrong just because I personally find it weird? And as for self harm, it doesn't really make sense to people who never experienced it, but there is a rationale to it that I think needs to be understood in order to help people out of it. I cannot tell you how many people think "cutting is just for spoiled kids who want more attention" just because all they see is someone hurting themself for no apparent reason. Again, if you are feeling hopeless there are resources for you. KZread autoblocks phone numbers in comments but look up the Crisis Text Line and text HOME to it if you're lonely or afraid, and the US Suicide Hotline is 988. That's for the US, definitely look up your national equivalent. I can't believe this all came from a diaper lady video but here we are lol.

  • @nateroo1486

    @nateroo1486

    4 ай бұрын

    @p1nkd0ck62 Well it can be one or manifest as one, it's just not necessarily always harmful I suppose is a better way of putting it. When I think of paraphilias my mind tends to go to things that are actively harmful or disruptive, versus things like fetishism which tends to just be mismatched attraction. Edit: Quick addendum, upon revisiting the literature. Paraphilia is an abnormal sexual desire and a paraphilic disorder is when it becomes damaging and disruptive. Fetishism is a branch of paraphilia focused on objects and activities that are unrelated to sex organs. Important disinction that I was a bit cloudy on in my initial statement. The lines between kink, fetish, and paraphilia are so thin it's hard to keep track of so excuse my lack of clarity there lol. Point being, you are very right that it is a paraphilia and it's fine that it's classified as one. The thing to look out for are paraphilic disorders.

    20:23 As a long-depressed person, I disagree, Kirsche. Going for a walk does have a chance of helping with depression. I'm not going to say it's _always_ going to work, like so many articles and flippant advice-givers will. But it's getting out of the house, getting a little bit of physical activity, giving yourself a little time to see different scenes that might help you think about something different for a bit. It can help. I used to take a lot of walks around my neighborhood at night in the past couple years when I was really down on myself. It does take effort to get out of the house and do it, so maybe try to turn it into a habit so you don't have to force yourself when you're at your worst. But I'd endorse taking a walk at night or whenever to see if it'll help with your depression. Now, just to clarify some things. To shoot down the inevitable Pippa argument, it doesn't have to be interactive in any way with other people. It's just alone time. If it's unsafe or unsafe at certain times of day, then reconsider, of course. Don't do something worse for yourself by putting yourself in danger. There's no benefit to be gained from the thrill of danger here. And since we often make intentionally self-sabotaging, reckless, and self-punishing decisions when we're depressed, don't use it as an excuse to do that. Also, if your brain won't shut off, bring your phone and watch videos on it while you walk. Keep your wits about you, of course; don't get hit by a car or something because you weren't paying attention. And don't watch depressing or heavy videos. Just watching something you can immerse in...while you're walking. I once watched walked a couple miles watching a video on contact cement. You're totally allowed to still be on your phone as an option, but it'll still help to be outside and moving. Give it a shot.

    I think she was more getting at that it's not a cure rather than it does nothing. Like yeah, you're not gonna get rid of depression by going on a bunch of hikes but it can definitely help you feel better, as well as just generally unplugging because social media is equal parts tempting and demoralizing. I've also suffered from depression, and still do on occassion, and I can tell you that just going for a walk with nothing electronic to distract me it was a good checkpoint. And you don't have to go without anything secondary to focus on, just bring like a little radio or a notebook with you if you need the stimuli, that's what worked for me on the walking front.

    To clarify (no hate intended; I’m aware this stuff is weird lol); adult babies like Paige are more interested in the age regression part of things. Age regression CAN be a kink, but very often is nothing more than an innocent coping mechanism. In the same way, abdl can be a kink but also a coping mechanism, and especially for this case, can be a whole lifestyle. People that age regress almost always do it because they have childhood trauma, or sometimes just as a way to cope with everyday life, and they want to relive their childhood. Paige has a KZread channel and has stated that for her, it isn’t a kink, but she has no problem with those who do it as a kink. Also, she does have a job to pay for the costs of living (and buying abdl stuff, bc I’m pretty sure it can be an expensive lifestyle). “24/7 abdl” can be a misleading statement, to be honest. Paige has also stated on her KZread that she is 24/7 diapered because of incontinence (some self-inflicted bc she kind of un-potty trained herself by wearing diapers, and half just medical stuff). But she doesn’t act like a baby 24/7. When in public, around friends/family, and or at her job, she’s an adult, but pretending to be a baby when she’s at home is just how she wants to live her life. And there’s nothing wrong with that :) (although, yeah, it’s strange lol)
