I like this video. I watched it more than a half a dozen times. IT CONTAINS MANY GOOD POINTS!!! You accurately demonstrate 3 of the 6 trigonometric functions. All of your math is correct for any 2 dimensional triangle. The problem which I see in this video is that 2 dimensional trigonometry does not accurately explain trigonometry in 3 dimensions. Compound rolling angles must be computed anytime that you are working in 3 dimensions. Even though this appears to be a 2 dimensional problem, as soon as the 3rd dimension is included (the roll) all bends now become compound bends. 1 bend is now doing what 2 bends would normally do in 2 separate planes. For anyone to easily visualize your diagram, get yourself a rectangular box. A rectangular box of facial tissues will work. Place your tissue box on a table in front of you, with the flattest side down, and the 2nd flattest side facing you. Label your 3 dimensions onto that tissue box. The 800 will be written along the width of the front. The 214 will be written along the depth of the box. The 73 will be written onto the height of the box. 3 DIMENSIONS! Now poke two pencils into the box, at the points where your 3" pipe would enter and leave the box. For simplicity of understanding, rotate your box so that it matches Figure 22 on page 65 in the book: Tube Bending Simplified (available from Amazon.com or E-bay.com). Now follow the crystal clear explanation in the chapter COMPOUND LENGTH AND BEND on pages 65 through 69 in the book Tube Bending Simplified. After doing the easy to follow calculations, you will find that both of the fittings on the 831 mm center to center piece are 75.5 degree fittings. A 3" standard 90 degree elbow has a 4-1/2" radius. If you turn to page 13 in the book Tube Bending Simplified, under the 4-1/2" radius chart, you will see that a 75 degree bend has a face to center measurement of 3-7/16". Pretend that these are 75 degree bends, instead of 75.5 degree bends. Your 831 mm travel - (3-7/16 + 3-7/16) will equal 831 - 6-7/8 to equal an end to end pup piece of 824-1/8 mm.

Hi, thank you for this explanation. I found an angle of ~15.7° (√ 214^2+73^2 = 226, then atan (226/800) = 15.7°). I found other videos where they take the value of the angle, 15,7 ° in this case, as base angle to determine the face to center measurement (0.6'' with 15°, instead of 3-7/16 for 75°). Could you please explain ?

    Easier: hypotinuse = √ 800² + 214² + 73² , then find angle between adjacent and hypotenuse with formula αº = tanˉ¹ ( 73 / √ 800²+ 214²)= 5.04º or between opposite and hypotinuse by Βº= tanˉ¹ ( √ 800²+ 214² / 73) = 84.96º and rotation of flange like shown in video.
