Are these safe to use on meerschaum pipes? I bought one of your reamers from Mike at Briar Blues and the damn thing is so nice I don't want to foul it with carbon. Lol! How's that for a pickle?

They are safe for meerschaum, just be careful. Carbon won't hurt them, they are stainless steel

you want to keep a carbon layer about the thickness of a dime. If it is built up, say to 4mm- you need to ream it

Dear Phil, I am writing to you from Vienna, because "Anton Bieber" alias Alexander has given a report about you and your work about one of your pipes in the pipe-community. That prompted me to write you in this evening - I'm interested in some of your pipes in the coming month - how many months do I have to wait? - I wrote today in the afternoon to Alex about your pipes in a support, I try to send you. - For today I greet you warmly - with my best wishes in these times - be careful! - Helmut FRAIS, Baden near Vienna, Austria. - - - to Alex in the pipe-community: "Dear Alexander! It was after midnight when you came to see us, almost surprisingly, virtually, so I was able to begin today's hot summer day with you and your newly acquired "Beauty" from Phil in the States in a good, cool and calm atmosphere after midnight. This pipe, flatteringly called "Beauty", more than lives up to its Kose name ... and what immediately struck me about this pipe of superlatives, it does not follow any modernist style, as we know it today from German pipe-craftsmanship, but I see and interpret it as a "classic", it comes with an extraordinary elegance, and honors the handicraft-manufacturer with a pronounced subtlety in the choice of materials. Your "Beauty" has already become a "museum piece" from now on, if you didn't want to use it for the holidays. So today I consider my statement here with these script-text as a kind of "opening speech", a inaugural speec, to your "pipe vernissage" - if this had not already been done by you - but allow me subsequently to point out that your "Beauty" is for me stylistically clever, and the temporary style, as far as pipes are concerned, seeks to unite both continents Europe - USA. - The hammer blow technique of the metal ring on the pipe spar, and the choice of color for the mouthpiece reminds me of the Twenties - here in Vienna we refer to the "Wiener Werkstätte", internationally interpreted as Art nouveau ... and as far as Bryere wood is concerned, it pushes almost in a display case, so that the beauty of this streaky grain can also delight other admirers. But what is the use of the finest elaborated double-basses for the bass player, what is the use of the best gut-strings wrapped with tungsten and silver for the bass player, if Oscar Peterson has already started the session on the Steinway and the bass-player is still polishing his double-bass with an antistatic-cloth ?! Instrument means instrument, and pipe means pipe ... even if you take your "Beauty" out of the velvet-bag so lovingly and don't think remotely of a display case - because the selected Virginia varieties are already waiting for their next adventure with the new guest! Great joy with the new "Beauty" and a toast to Phil in the USA!
