"I understand Mozart piano concertos as chamber works. The piano, orchestra, and individual instruments engage with each other, dialoguing continuously. At the same time, these are hidden operas: the musical themes, motives interact, unfolding their stories, each with their own voice and distinctive character. Mozart is the composer of ambiguity par excellence - the most luminous moments can be interwoven with such darkness. Where is the light, where is the shadow? Sometimes, I don't really know. And yet this is music of such evident limpidity. It is a miracle." -Piotr Anderszewski

There is no division between soloist and orchestra if the soloist plays basso continuo as indicated by the great "classical composers" Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven. Piotr Anderszewski -- like many other "modern" pianists -- is not interested in doing what the composers have indicated.

So what you are saying is that these pieces are not concerti for solo instrument , but cast as a symphony with a piano continuo?

@@johnbogle59 No need to put words into my mouth. A Concerto is a Concerto and not a symphony. Basso continuo was indicated by all classical composers, it’s most detailed notation found in Beethoven’s last finished Piano Concerto in E-flat major.
