    TwT....You are the Man! I just completed the center voltage and idle current check/adjustment on my 1080. Couldn't have done it without your guidance! Big thanks! To get to that terminal 10 next to filter caps, instead of removing the board, I stood unit on side, used a spring clip from the bottom, connected it to terminal 10, and rested unit back down on a board to give me some room. Worked great imo.

    Thanks for the video, unlike JVC manuals this pioneer procedure doesn’t show you that the right channel is on the other side of the heat sink. So I was confused whether this adj. was for both channels or what? I was an ET in the Navy and have aligned many JVC integrated and power amps. This is my first Pioneer. Also step 3 under the idler current adj. says to repeat steps 1-4 above, but there are only 3 steps to the idler adj. and 4 steps for the center voltage So this further confused me. Your video was the only internet search I could find that straightened this out for me. Thanks again.

    @@TinkeringWithT thanks! Actually it's not working properly, the left channel distorts intermittently 😩. Toggling around with the Speakers A/B buttons helps to clear it a bit. Took The cover off and the inside was caked with over 40 years of dust! Lol. I'm hoping it's just dirty contacts?? Seems to be okay, if I change the wires to the Speaker B terminals.

    Sounds like it's got a couple dirty switches to me!! Especially if it clears up when you push the speaker selectors. I can imagine how dusty it was in there! When I got mine, it was the same way! I think a little dusting, and some switch cleaning and you'll be jamming in no time!

    Hello Tw/T! Thanks for the video! Your illustrations were very helpful. I just acquired a Pioneer 1080 and am about to go through this exact same basic service real soon. Question: At 20:10, when setting Center voltage to "0 v" and you have to cut that jumper to achieve "0V", is the jumper replaced or is the jumper left cut? Thanks again for a great video!

    Hi! Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it! Congrats on your 1080! I think the 1080 is probably my favorite receiver. Yes, if you can’t get a reading or close to a reading of 0v for the center voltage, you cut the jumper wire then see if it’ll adjust into spec! Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching!

    Repeat commentor here, you’re my kinda guy, noticed on your phone that you have the “blue driver” app. I have a pioneer 1080 and a muscle car and you have a pioneer 1080 and a muscle car. I was an ET in the Navy and because of this video I am making that leap from just doing voltage alignments to injecting signals. I can’t decide whether to use the sonic app or purchase a combo oscope / signal generator. What do you think? Also, can you use Bluetooth with the sonic app or recommend the patch cables?

    @@TinkeringWithT Hello, I’m back. My SX 1080 is currently causing some trouble. Occasionally, the right channel drops out and there is only scratching in the speaker (like the scratching of a potentiometer). When I switch from stereo to mono, music can also be heard on the right again. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?

    Hello great video! I have a 1080 that has sat for a cows age that my moms deceased husband owned at some point in his life, and it the phono buttons are not working super hot (if you fiddle with the buttons the left and right channels will come in in out) and the channels are not working super hot, and its dusty to boot.... Will this service job help with that? Or do I need to go in and replace the capacitors?

  • @TinkeringWithT

    @TinkeringWithT

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you!! Nice acquisition! The 1080 is probably my favorite receiver! Sounds to me like the phono switch may need a good cleaning! Since it was sitting for awhile, it’s likely all the switches will need a good cleaning! It’s a common thing on any old receiver. I’d highly recommend taking it apart, and blowing out all the dust, then to clean the switches, and if you’re able, follow the service procedure and you’ll have yourself a sweet 1080! When the switches get dirty it can do all sorts of funky things to the channels, distortion, cutting out, etc. keep me posted on how it goes!!

    Ah man. Sorry to hear that. I hate then they seize up like that! I’ve had some luck gently prying them off with something that won’t damage the faceplate like some sort of plastic automotive trim removal tools. If that doesn’t work, a very light amount of heat may help, just be careful not to damage the faceplate or anything around it. Keep me posted!
