I do agree, but I also think stems can be used creatively to present familiar songs in new ways to the listeners, and I think listeners will appreciate that. The more stems are practiced with, the easier it will be to sprinkle them into our sets, in addition to what we already do.

@@TheDJLab a precomputed stem file format would be great. Stems in 8 or 10 channel AIFF/FLAC or such, and all the controller needs to do is "add up" the waveforms as you require. I don't see another way forward, unless we get GPU's in CDJ's at some point, pushing them to 5x the price.

Love this video and the honesty! I've been using the DDJ-400 for a year and was looking to upgrade, wanted the DDJ-1000 but it never came back in stock, until the FLX-10. I had my eyes on the RaneFour, but you're absolutely right... Virtual DJ is my main software and it absolutely does a great job with stems, prior to having dedicated "STEM" buttons on a controller.

Not crapping on your video but you can't tell people not to upgrade without buying the controller and testing it yourself. I have this controller and it's way better than the DDJ 1000. Sound is better, the fader is more responsive, jog wheels are better, and are more customizable than the DDJ 1000. Many more features to name but just a few. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LAME REVIEW JUST TO CRAP ON A VERY GOOD CONTROLLER SMH. BUY THIS THANG PEOPLE TRUST THE PROCESSES.

You’re right on one hand and the author of this post is right on the other. Let’s face it… “Stems” is the new thing and this is Pioneers biggest selling point with the FLX10. Here’s a little food for thought for the both of you and all that feel commenting is something you must do. Have respect for each other and if you have nothing to say, don’t say anything at all… This goes for all Creator critiquing and those who’ve taking the time to view the KZread! In short one must put their hands on things to speak on its value.

we have been through two ddj1000's and now have been using the flx10 for just over a year... we are heavy handed drum n bass djs and our gear does not always get handled with care lol. i can honestly say that this is better than the ddj1000 on so many levels. the build quality alone is worth the upgrade. our controllers get very heavy use both at home and at indoor and outdoor events regularly. the ddj1000 was a magnet for dust and the faders always needed attention but the flx19 seems to be the opposite. the readout on the platters are brighter, the sound quality is better and little things like the 4 beat beatjump above the cue is super handy. even tho it may cost more than the ddj1000 i totally recommend looking past that and getting this unit

  • @andytaylor7661

Very true, I’m in a bit of a budget and my ancient controller started playing up recently, so I just bought an FLX-6. I use a focusriteUSB audio interface for the sound so I can get high quality and balanced outputs (nice thing about using Virtual DJ is you can use any audio device you like). Using the ‘stems+FX’ pad page I can get acapella echo out, instrumental echo out and even add and remove the individual parts like bass, drums, etc. so yes the FLX10 can definitely do more but using pads is enough to do some cool stems mixing stuff. And the FLX6 fits nicely in my existing flight case too. And with the £800 I haven’t spent on the FLX10 I can get a new MacBook. No doubt the FLX10 is higher quality in terms of faders and buttons and general build quality, but with an external audio interface and a decent flight case it’s more than good enough for the weddings I do. Having those extra stems buttons would be nice, but won’t magically make me a better DJ like you say. There is also the thing of if you DJ at events or bars where you are right next to the crowd, there is always a chance of a drink getting spilled on your mixer, so if that did happen one day, I would be much less upset replacing/reparing a £600 controller than a £1500 one.

I’m used to the pro club gear and the FLX 6 is crippled in so many ways that it was just annoying to work with, even though it gets the job done.

hmm, i don"t agree, you don"t have volume control of each part & you can't isolate parts on the ddj-1000. You also don't have individual fx on the stems. You can use serato if you want the best stems & wait for the upgrade from rekordbox, i'm sure they will inplent same thing as serato, that you can 'prepare' stems for better quality. For me its a logical upgrade from the ddj-1000. Hope to get it this week!

  • @DjTonioRoffo

A lot of good points, which I get, some I don't. Yes, if you use VDJ, any controller is great because you map whatever combo of buttons to whatever you like. I can do stems with a DDJ-SX, no problem. However, I'm getting this controller for two reasons. One, rekordbox "universe", I want in, I want to be able to prep music and play wherever I like, with the feel of the machines as close as possible to a club environment. Less creative? Surely. But I'll be able to adapt quickly to whatever Pioneer stuff is out there, and I can also load my music/cues/... on other gear like the Prime family. VDJ remains also, but for the being at home, creative part, as it puts you in a very specific and customized environment. Here is how I see the industry will end up with stems. NOT live calculated, but precomputer and embedded in a fileformat with more than 2 channels, containing the stems. Once we have a standard on that, we can load up tracks and the gear will be able to use the stems with little to no computation (add/substract basically) VDJ can do that today, with MP4 containers (but under another file extension). FLAC or AIFF can handle multichannel, it's just deciding now where to map what, where, and make the firmware aware. Reason two - standard layout and full size jogs.

  • @STFOX543

If you’re a beginner or a home DJ, this is a great dj controller for the following reasons: -the layout is very similar to professional mixers and CDJs. -the screens in each deck and loading knob allow you to rely on your laptop very little. -you can switch between 2 and 4 decks within the two decks in the controller with one button, but the 4 channel mixer allows you to connect CDJs as well. -Stem separation is rapidly becoming mainstream and this controller will allow you to become familiar with the tech for future gigs as you grow in your skills. The stem tech sounds better when you edit through the Sound Color FX in the mixer. If you have a DDJ-1000 it might be worth upgrading depending on you as an individual. Might be worth saving twice as much to buy the Opus. Where this stands, it’s a great bang for your buck. Don’t let a guy telling you to pick Virtual DJ over a semi professional set up tell you what a good controller is.

This is on serato btw. Theres an issue with stems where if u dont have it on auto analyze which is bad cuz it eats up the cpu and causes audio drops, on the board when u hit any of the 3 buttons it has to analyze once it does it auto-turns on even if u do a turn on and off. Sometimes while it re analyzes it stops all of the audios completely, so the club will be silent, if it happens to you, just hit the stems buttons until audio comes back. Sometimes doing doubles (when u clone a track from one side to the other side) audio may not be available, to solve this: just click any stems button at the top until audio comes back to it. Sometimes while clicking the stems button on the left side, may completely mute the right side output audio. Or maybe my controller is faulty 😆😆😆

The music is fuzie when using stems even after putting them into the stems crate, sometimes quality drops, get loads of crackling sounds when trying to preform colour and effects at the same time or even when just song are playing. Im running my FLX10 off an DELL Core i7 10th gen with nvidia graphics card 8g ram. Do you think this is the issue and I need higher spec PC, if so i might sell it and go standalone? Appreciate anyones response to this as I'm not clued up enough to know and its really bugging me after spending £1500 with dust cover. M

Agreed on all fronts. I'm looking at everything coming out and can't help but think this is a test round. There's just nothing out here that competes with the Prime 4 in standalone and controller mode. What I see is poking and prodding around it's features to see if the market will support something else that big and powerful. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my opinion.

Realistic choice, why upgrade if you don’t need to. FTR there are progress and apps out there that can generate stems for you to incorporate into your Library. It just takes that extra step of creating them with those resources. It’s that what being a true DJ is all about? Real talk: These modern Controllers are just making it easier and taking the artistry out of DJing. Back in the day we had to come up with how to make a record play backwards and any “Real DJ” made it happen. I did and loved doing it on Technique SL 1200 Direct Drive Turntables! Don’t get me wrong I love convenience and easy, but being creative gives you the feeling of accomplishment.

The controller is born out of software functions and not the other way around. So, if you're using Serato, the perfect controller is the DDJ SX series. Then, if you want a more powerful audio interface, you might lean towards the SZ series. For RekordBox, it's the DDJ RX and DDJ RZ. I don't understand controllers that don't have the effects section via software; it doesn't make any sense. The FLX is neither here nor there.

What FLX10 offers. - 4 channels - DMX control - Gradual Stem control (will make use of stems more precise and smoother) - onboard DDJ FX control section, with stem seperation Fx control (eg. effect vocal FX seperately from whole song) - Updated Magvel Fader - 2x Computer Connectivity (so easy switch between dj's) - pad controls, offers all the pads a standard laptop controller has, with the quality and performance of a CDJ. Also keep in Mind CDJ's do not offer stem control. The list continues as to why this is the best DJ tech pioneer ever created concerning mixing. All the qualities of a CDJ, familiarity of a CDJ with the Power of laptop support.

Now listen! I've been DJing for almost 20 years. For someone like myself whom is a skilled DJ looking to update their rig with more creative tools; I think the FLX-10 is a great choice. I am running one with a Denon sc6000m. I have extreme creative flexibility with plenty of tools at my disposal. I commonly use instant doubles to split 1 track into two stem channels. I can then mix in loops from deck 4 and scratch with the Denon on channel 2. I can even "swap sides" because the Denon has two outputs (CH.1 & 2) allowing for spits on either side of the controller. Did it make me a better DJ? I suppose that is arguable. I never would have gotten here if not for the skills I learned starting on vinyl and then progressing to early CDJs.

The good thing is that there is gear for all types of DJ’s. Some have been hankering for this style of equipment, with integrated stems capacity; good if that’s your type of thing, but it seems a bit niche to me, and I’m not that type of showroom dj. The novelty for the majority of dj’s will wear off. As you say, and in my experience, it’s all about the mixing, beat matching all types of genres, playing samples, mixing up the music, hyping up the crowd, and that’s what it boils down to. I love equipment as much as the next dj, but having a Prime 4, XDJ XZ, and a Mixstream Pro, there’s nothing I need for a long time. I can use the main platforms, standalone or controller (although hardly the latter- no need), and engine will come up with a stems feature I am sure as an add on.

I don't know if I fully agree. The average listening isn't going to care if you're playing stems or not, for better and for worse. They just care if it sounds good. A good DJ on rekordbox stem could probably sound 'good' while a lesser DJ on Serato stems will sound 'bad'. My point is it ultiumately comes down to the DJ but also average listener isn't going to notice or care if its VDJ, Serato, or RB I also don't know what to think till I try them all myself. You swear by VDJ where as Mojaxx IIRC claims Serato sounds the best.

I've ordered it. Imo they rushed the stems feature in Rekordbox to get it out in time for the release of this controller. It will get better. It's software. No it won't make me a better DJ (duh). But stems give you more possibilities to mix tracks together without needing edits to make a great transition. Yes, I've mapped stems to my current hardware, but I have a 2 channel entry level controller. I was already waiting for an update to the old DDJ-1000. And now it's here I've ordered it. If anyone thinks buying new gear will make them better artists they are just dumb. Yeah, VDJ and Serato do stems much better, but their first effort wasn't great either. They improved it with updates over time. Yeah, the key point is to play good music. But to be able to creatively blend tracks together that weren't made to be mixed is a great move forward.

Completely disagree with your video! 1. Flx 10 has an excellent quality on materials. 2. Very responsive pads 3. Separate Stems for Fx section C’mon! 4. Jog wheel is superb 5. Excellent audio quality. Expensive Yes… but why not?

Its nice but in all honesty apart from the waveforms on the screens being better for scratching and the way you can assign accapella and instrumentals stems to decks 1+3 or 2+4 its not got enough to convince me to move from my DDJ1000 to be honest, i can easily map stems ect to the pads so. What i wanna see is a proper moving platter + paddles controller for Rekordbox, then i am all in for sure.

I have used enough gear in my life and own enough stuff to be able to look at videos and give my opinion on the controller without seeing it. Tell the owner of Virtual DJ that all of its users are jokes. It's the number one selling DJ software on the planet and most DJs that use it are corporate and event DJs and probably make far more money than the average DJ does. The only joke here is people who comment this kind of stuff.

Dj lab, I think it's because you are not a prime serato user. I agree with not moving from srt. However, for people on ddj sz, we have been waiting for something like this for a while. So I would say that for those from an SZ it is a good move. Plus the acapella stem on serato is brilliant.

I'm going to disagree with the comment this controller is not going to make you a better DJ; and I'm going to point out the fact that there is an onboard/built-in sound card with fantastic effects. Then you get to add / map your own through the COLOR FX buttons through software. Being a good DJ is not just a good music selection.... it's how good you transition and into the next song. So when it comes down to being a good DJ, the controller that gives you the best overall options for mixing/Effects WILL make you a better DJ. Period.

I like to hear the remix or the song but thats me am sure theres others when someone can start turning off bass notes etc just wont be the same, i understand trying to make live bootleg (i get it), if this for intro and out but you can do some with effects anyway plus noticed. Sometimes keep it simple and good. Old dance & trance music was unreal, been liking remixes from block & crown

Load of old rubbish. You haven't even seen one. Content for the sake of content. FLX10 is night and day better than the old 1000. Build quality, audio quality, functions, integration and phono input levels all smash the 1000. You literally don't know what you're talking about.

You are right. I didn't see until recently and haven't had a chance to play on one. And I'm not the only KZread review guy. That makes videos just because they need content. I do feel when I look at a new product. I have enough experience with gear to be able to give an opinion on something without looking at it. But you are right. Sometimes I get it in my hands and my opinion changes
