This is the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4: a simple, budget-oriented, handsome little DJ controller meant as an apparent replacement to the popular DDJ-400. One important difference is that it gives beginners the option of trying both Serato and Rekordbox software without committing to them. In addition to Rekordbox performance mode, you get free use of Serato DJ Lite, which is upgradable via a Serato DJ Pro subscription.
Regardless of the software you’re using, you get access to the streaming services TIDAL, Beatport and Beatsource, and SoundCloud Go+. Provided you have the appropriate subscriptions, of course.
Soon (early 2023), a major update will be coming to the iOS and Android versions of the Rekordbox app which will allow you to use the FLX4 to perform with it. It will even let you do this over Bluetooth, which is actually a pretty neat proposition. This controller could potentially feel a bit like a standalone DJ system, in the sense that you don’t have to have a laptop in the way. (I mean, who doesn’t have their phone on them at all times?)
There are also a few exclusive features - namely, Smart Fader and Smart CFX - intended to help very green, beginner DJs start mixing and making cool-sounding sets from day 1.
The DDJ-FLX4 comes with a $299 price tag, making it a sister controller to the already released DDJ-REV1.

Good review. I will purchase it because I am looking for a backup controller for gigs. In addition, this looks like a fun way to keep up with the basics but try some new ideas. I'm loving what Pioneer did. Looking forward to the mobile app in 2023.

LOVE DDJ 400 controller but wanna get this next year
I like that controller stand but can’t seem to find anywhere.
It's a nice not too pricy (especially for Pioneer) controller and it looks like it's finally a controller that really takes Android in consideration, which is great... But apart from that, considering what it offers for the price, I think that there's better options for a "learning controller" if you don't use Rekordbox. For example, Hercules Inpulse 500 which has RGB pads, TRS outputs (eventhough unbalanced) and Aux input...
Does this controller work with the dJay Pro Al app on Mac?

Great little set up for chilling in the house or having a party.. very decent bit of kit. Still can’t top vinyl haha
Works also great with the djay pro android version ( purchased app ). The only downside is that when someone calls or app you it disturbs the mixing session. First thing you gonna have to do is connecting it to windows on your pc in order to get it working and update the firmware if its need to. I use Google pixel 7 and it works pretty proper. It makes me so happy 😁
Does this not work with earlier versions of Serato lite? Bc the new version sounds terrible and it’s able to hook up to my controller. I use an earlier version of Serato lite and sounds perfect but not able to pair my controller I’m so confused might return and buy a 200 or 400 somewhere

The software shouldn't make it sound terrible from 1 version to the next. Sound card is built into the controller.
Would of loved rgb pads on this

For sure. Aesthetically, I actually like the orange... but RGB would be nice functionality!

Agreed because there are other models out there from Hercules etc which has RGB and looks amazing. I loooove my DDJ-REV1 and I don’t expect it to be like my RANE ONE 🤷🏽♂️🤣 but some additional colors aside from the Amber would be terrific
Hi, I’m a straight forward wedding/ function DJ, since 1987, never make use of a controller or any DDJ product. However during the early years I owned CDJ 100s / 200 but went over to straight laptop. My main priority is to keep people on the dance floor by mixing Left to Rights. So all what I want to know, as this unit price point is in my budget, will it be my future source to go with me, for what I do...really not into scratching or that type of styles

I don’t see why not! For a $300 budget, it’s a fairly complete package. It’s handsome and has pretty good “feels”. Will feel more modern and capable than a set of CDJ-200s. The “smart fader” function could actually be a fun way to transition between genres at a wedding.

I have bought this controller and im really struggling , I have it plugged into my laptop to the controller loaded my music through rekordbox , however the controller just does not work I can’t even press play on the controller it does not work however I can press play on my laptop and it will work , its really stressing me out lol

I heard speculation that smart fader doesn’t work on Serato Dj Pro. Is this true?

For the FLX4 I prefer rekordbox, because it's the only way you get access to the FLX4-specific features.

I understand. And I don’t care for those features either. But, it’s been pretty easy to become a DJ for a good while now. The people who stop growing because of features like this will eventually fizzle out. Or, they will evolve because they have become Passionate DJs.

FLX 6 is bad, would advise to try the upgraded version
