Video Description: Sorry for the post-crossing activation recording. I apologise for the truck getting into the shot. A BNSF Intermodal freight train passes the Pioneer Boulevard Railroad Crossing #4, on the BNSF San Bernadino Subdivision main line in the border of Whittier and Sante Fe Springs, California. This train was heading to Hobart yard in Commerce, CA. One noticeable change that occurred since the last time I filmed this crossing in 2018, the median signal across the tracks was replaced with the current new signal between mid 2019 and now.
Locomotives:
BNSF #5601 GE C44-9W
BNSF #6869 GE ES44C4
BNSF #4101 GE C44-9W
BNSF #8159 GE ES44C4
BNSF #8157 GE ES44C4
Crossing Info:
Location: Pioneer Boulevard & Rivera Road, Whittier, California.
Crossing owner/maintainer: BNSF Railway
Horn setting: Horn zone
Bell sequence: Bells on this ring through whole activation, and bells on the other side ring till gates rise.
Safetran Cantilever signal on the right: 4 pairs of 12x24" Dialight Ball LEDs, Safetran (Hawker Siddely era) light heads, and a General Signals Type 3 Electronic Bell
Cantilever's gated mast: WCH gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights and WCH/WRRS base
Close signal on the median: 2 pairs of 12x24" Dialight Ball LEDs, Safetran (Hawker Siddely Era) light heads, WCH gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights and WCH base
Gateless signal on the left: 2 pairs of 12x24" Dialight Ball LEDs inside Safetran light heads, Safetran base, and a General Signals Type 2 Electronic Bell
Safetran Cantilever signal on the left: 2 pairs of 12x24" Dialight Ball LEDs on mast and 2 pairs of 12x24 Dialight Ball LEDs on overhead, Safetran (Hawker Siddely era) light heads, and a General Signals Type 2 Electronic Bell
Cantilever's gated mast: WCH gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights and WCH/WRRS base
Far signal on median: 1 pair of 12x20" Dialight Ball LEDs inside Safetran light heads, Siemens gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and Siemens base
Gateless signal on the right: 2 pairs of 12x24" Dialight Ball LEDs inside Safetran light heads, Safetran base, and a General Signals Type 2 Electronic Bell
This crossing seems to be a mixed of an ATSF and BNSF install. The cantilevers here seem to be have been installed by ATSF in the early-mid 1990s, while the median signals were installed by BNSF in the mid-late 1990s. The cantilever signals orginally had 12x20" Safetran incandescent lights with their gates having a standard diagonal stripe style gate barriers with 7" gate lights and RACO mechanical bells. However, both RACO mechanical bells may have come from another crossing or the previous signals here. The median signals most likely had their equipment they have today, but originally had 12x24" Safetran incandescent lights and 7" gate lights. In the late 1990s to early 2000s, it appears that most of 12x20" backgrounds were replaced with the current 12x24" backgrounds. I'd say sometime around then the 7" gate lights on the median signals were replaced with NEG or RECO incandescent gate lights around the same time. Sometime around the early-mid 2000's the median signal got it's original gate WCH mechanism replaced with a US&S Model 95 gate mech with a new gate and more NEG or RECO LEDs (likely due to a car accident). This crossing would remain unchange till early-mid 2011, when that same median signal got it's original Safetran lights replaced with GE/Harmon Fading LEDs. Following in mid 2012, the Safetran lights on the rest of the signals had their incandescents retrofitted with the current Dialight Ball LEDs along with both cantilever's 7" gate lights replaced with RECO LEDs. Following the next year in 2013, this crossing would receive a third track, plus BNSF adding the two current gateless signals here, along with the left cantilever's RACO bell being replaced with the current General Signals Type 2 electronic bell. In early 2016, the remaining RACO mechanical bell was replaced with the current General Signals Type 3 electronic bell. Sometime around then, all signals would receive new gate vertical stripe style gate barriers with RECO LEDs replacing the original gates. Lastly sometime between mid 2019 and 2020, the median signal was replaced with the current new signal, possible being hit by a vehicle again.

Those WCH(Model 87) gate mechs last a very long time. Most of those gate mechs were installed back in 1993. BNSF now went back using Alstrom/Safetran gate mechs.
