Gears and belt has finite size combination while the pins and pins has almost infinite possibility. Assume that you have two gears and you have shaft misalignment of 100mm. Now change that misalignment to 105mm. It would be difficult with gears. Also gear manufacturing is inherently more expensive process compared with pins.

mekanizmalar so, is this ever actually used? It is very interesting, very elegant. I guess each pin bears the whole load individually that quarter of the cycle?

Hi John, I am sure that it has been used in the past. I doubt that it is still being used. Modern couplings such as Schmidt coupling does better job since they don't put lode on a single pin. However, if you have small shop and can't afford Schmidt coupling you can use this coupling which I call pins and pins coupling. The reason I am putting the video about this coupling is that browser increasingly not supporting adobe flash files. So I am making videos of all my animations.

mekanizmalar wow, thanks for pointing out the schmidt coupling. That is really slick. Yea, this pin coupling should be pretty easy for a small operation to fabricate to drive some eccentric load.
