Finding a female-friendly public toilet is quite a struggle for women in Dhaka city. WaterAid's statistics reveal that out of 25.88 million public toilet users, only 13% are female. This ratio reflects the concerning issue of women's access to proper public toilets.
That is why WaterAid Bangladesh took the initiative and introduced the Pink Toilet- a women-only toilet. The team working behind the Pink Toilet took a step further and besides integrating the basic hygiene essentials introduced several smart features such as a sanitary pad vending machine, charging port, frequency counter, privacy respecting CCTV camera, automatic air freshener, emergency button, digital payment, QR for feedback/complaint, pink pass, remote monitoring system, and more!
And that is not all! To ensure self-sustainability, the team has also embedded some amazing green features to the Pink Toilet like solar energy, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater reuse.
WaterAid Bangladesh's vision is to establish a network of Pink Toilets across the city so that amidst the puzzling streets of Dhaka city women can easily locate a Pink Toilet whenever they are looking for one.
