Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (fingerstyle guitar)

Музыка

A "guitar cam" bracket video...one of my personal favourites, an old Pink Floyd number. I can't help but get right into this song, so forgive me for my ever-increasing tempo and volume, I just get too excited!

    Putting the pick down - now you're talkin'! Don't try to copy every note I play, make it work for you. Sky's the limit, full freedom. As simple, or as hard as you like. Do as much or as little as you want. I'm still varying this song - I like to slip a bass B note after the C chord as I step down to Am, sounds ace, challenging to concentrate on the melody at the same time though! Always learning, never stops. Good skill in your journey! :-)

    A radio filter would be cheating...if it doesn't come au natural then I won't do it! I used to play it very tight down near the bridge to simulate a radio feel (no bass response) but nobody "got it" so I just play it a bit quieter to start with. Flamenco all the way, sometime I get over excited and overdo the flamenco, I kept it subtle in this rendition :) Thanks! JAW

    That was the second take...but I had recorded a version a few weeks back. I probably play this song a few times a months so it's pretty fresh. There are a few fubs in there that bothered me, and I will admit to punching out two minor mistakes, but perfectionism is a curse! Don't let it stop you from doing stuff! JAW

  • @jawmunji

    Standard tuning - look for the "common" chord shapes, G, C, D, that's how you will recognise standard stuning...although this angle is not the most obvious for seeing the shapes, and I don't play all the common chords with the standard finger pattern either! Thanks, I really like playing this song :) JAW

    Cool idea, really shows the fingering well. What type of camera/mount do you use?

  • @jawmunji

    @jawmunji

    8 жыл бұрын

    That was a DIY mount (which is too heavy) with a handycam style camera. I'm thinking if you were to set this up you'd use a gopro or similar and one of their standard clamp on mounts. Good fun! JAW

    Great arrangement!! Man I still remember your canon in D covers back then :D. How long did it take you to play this song?

  • @jawmunji

    @jawmunji

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Chau Ngo I've been playing this song in various forms since the 90's...but this particular version, I'd nailed down by around 2008. I needed the previous 30 years of playing to reach this point though ;-) So if you are thinking how long does it take to be able to arrange something like this and play it? How long is a piece of string? Talented guys will do it with a lot of hard work in under 10 years - or much less. Slow and steady hobbyists like me, yeah, 30 years...or never! It's all about just keeping on playing the guitar when you can, always pushing yourself further, and enjoying it. Rock on Chau! JAW

    Is this the same version as the other video you posted? Same tabs too?

  • @jawmunji

    @jawmunji

    6 жыл бұрын

    Pretty much. There might be a few subtle differences, I constantly tweak things, but nothing drastic. Your best bet with learning fingerstyle is to get the main idea from the tabs (if available), watching the video, and then develop it into the style you play. Well, given that you have already spent some time developing your own fingerstyle; if it's all very new then yeah, learn some pieces in other player's style that you like until you have established a style of your own. Start with the easier stuff - don't try and take on something well beyond your current skill level (push yourself though, don't stay in your comfort zone all the time) - and work from there!

    So, so you think you can tell Heaven from hell Blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl Year after year Running over the same old ground And how we found The same old fears Wish you were here

  • @jawmunji

    No need - yours can do the same, if not better, just practise, practise, practise. Okay, that sounds kinda lame but that's really all there is to it. I don't think I'm anything special or good, I've just put the time in. Over thirty plus years, but really, you could exceed this in far less. I mucked around a lot. Worked a day job. Have three kids. Let it go for a few years. Played electric. Played chords. Tried to sing. And so on. A really dedicated player, with practise...well... :)
