Parts 1 to 5 are an intro to Syd and their respects to him. Then 2 songs about the recording / music industry that destroyed Syd and another song wishing he was still okay.... still functioning and HERE. Parts 6 to 9 then close out the story . Finnish the album.

Watch you guys.... Sheer joy! Takes me back a little over 40 years, to a time when growing up was just hell.... No Social Media, No Internet, No Mobile Phones.... And on top of that, all we had to listen to were bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin! Someone please tell me.... things are much better now dude? 🤣🤣🤣

The original album was on a two sided vinyl record. All nine parts did not fit on one side so they brilliantly opened side one with one through five and finished side two with six through nine.

Met my future hubby in a college dorm lounge where he introduced me to this band & album. That album is "our song". I had the same reaction to hearing "Pink Floyd" for the first time. Long time ago now. I'm glad to see others discovering this album & band! :-)

Pink floyd is an experience. Shine on your crazy diamond was written for the band's former lead singer Syd Barrett who did too many drugs and basically lost his mind forever. Very sad ending for him, but the band put together this fitting tribute.

Thanks guys. Another great reaction. This whole album is both a tribute and a lament for the band member they started off with all those years ago (Syd Barrett) who took too many drugs and developed schitzophrenia, and they lost him to madness. He was the creative force behind the band when they first started with their first hits. Ironically, he actually walked in the studio when they were recording and he'd changed so much they didn't recognize him. Very sad story, but great music and vibe. Keep it up guys. Very enjoyable.

A word on Pink Floyd and some other bands. The music was tracked to be listened in a specific order. Back during this time, you listened to complete albums and singles were meant to be teasers out on the radios to sell the album. On Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5 is the first track on the album. Shine On You Crazy Diamond 6-9 is the last track on the album. Suggestion - when you are not shooting a reaction, listen to each track from the album in order. Your appreciation will actually grow.

So glad you enjoyed Parts 6-9 aswell. Regarding the album art, it helps if you owned the album itself to see all 4 images (front and back cover & front and back inner sleeve) Having studied the original album and inner sleeve, my deduction is that: 1. Album front - Fire (edge of picture is burnt) 2. Album rear - Earth (sand pours from a rip) 3. Inner Sleeve front - Air (edge of picture is wavy) 4. Inner Sleeve back - Water (water pours from a hole) What it all means? Don't know.

This is a great reaction to a great song. A ton of folks that know the musical material better than I do will probably explain the parts (if it's a suite or something else), but let me look ahead and suggest the song "Echoes" (which actually came out on the album Meddle, years before this album). Folks will suggest the Live at Pompeii version, but I think the first listen should be to the studio version, then the Pompeii one. I hope you revisit material performed at the Pulse concert, too. Great stuff gentlemen!

This is how the album, "Wish You Were Here", concludes; my favorite by PF. IMO this album is Richard Wright's (keyboards) magnum opus. Dudes, the reason "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is numbered 1-9 is that each "part" isn't a stand-alone song. The parts indicate a change in musical theme within the larger composition. Think of it like "movements" in Classical music. A good example of this is Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", with 3 movements which are incredibly distinct.
