Strange thing but when I was 12, I got a box set of the four albums Atom Heart, Medsle, Obscured bu Clouds, and Dark Side, just based on the cover art. I listened to them in timeline order so this was the very first Pink Floyd track I ever heard. So I’ve got all the warm fuzzies over this track, it was nothing like anything I had heard before. Is it as good as some of their other work? No. Does the band hate it? Yes. But come on, 1970, they had the balls to put this together, whether or not it completely works or not. Ain’t no way this was going to get radio airplay. They just said, we’re gonna do our own thing, experiment, find our voice. So for that alone this is a monumentally important track. And I like quite a big of it, some of it drags on too long, but there are bits and pieces where you can here it all coming together. Which it fully did on Meddle.
