I LOVE that analogy! I have been an electronic music junkie since the late 1960s and I have always really enjoyed On The Run and Any Colour You Like from DSOTM. My all-time favorite track from DSOTM is Great Gig In The Sky - truly breathtaking.

The lyric in “Time” that goes: “The time has come. The song is over. Thought I’d something more to say”, isn’t about the song ending. It’s about life ending. When that day comes, who doesn’t feel they need more time because they thought they had something more to “say” in this life. Leading right into “The Great Gig in the Sky”. A song about the emotions associated with the end of life. Absolute masterpiece!

What amazes me every time I hear it, is that it was basically her first take. Second technically, because the first take she used words (I believe baby baby or something), they stopped, asked her not to use any actual words, and then recorded what we luckily get to hear today, whenever we want.

Clare Torry said more with no words that most singers say in their whole careers.

When the grandparents have all the cool albums stashed away in a cabinet 😎

I was 13 when they hit us with this album. A completely new sound. We smoked a lot of herb listening to this album. And then pontificating the meaning behind the songs. This Album still holds the record. For the amount of years, not months on the Bill Board Charts. And again this is the 70’s. So they really blew us away with it. This is their finest album. I’m glad you guys are checking out the music of my generation. And I’m a very big fan of the two of you

I was probably around the same age. I saved up all my allowance to try and get this album but it was sold out everywhere I went. I asked my mom to take me everywhere to find this album finally found it in Torrance California where I used to live at the mall. But I didn't have enough money. I remember stealing it putting it down my pants and walking out with it. Met my mom outside in the parking lot and she thought I bought it. I had to have it, and it was worth it. Everybody had this album.

The Beatles already taught us to look for hidden messages. And another part, where someone says. I know I’m mad, I’ve always been mad. And I just watched a video on this. Those clips were recorded at Abbey Road Studio. In which McCartney had also had a clip. But they never put it in. 2 Musts for any of you younger listeners. Headphones on Max Volume. And a good joint or a bowl of some killer weed. And let your mind expand.

At 66, one of my biggest regrets is never getting to see them play live...

This whole album used to be a staple at our Planetarium laser light show: imagine listening to this album on a great sound system, you sitting stoned along with your best friends on a Friday evening, and watching in the dark laser lines streak across the very high dome ceiling, and the laser lights dancing to the music.

The Great Gig In the Sky represents the part of dying. Clare Tory is holding on to life, not wanting to give it up. The. She transitions into death, after that she’s in heaven with a peaceful singing. So chilling but awesome song and album. Thank you guys!

Not at alls sure the members of PF are religious. It's about death, but I've always thought it was about the death of a loved one - the stages of grief, ending in a quiet acceptance. It happens mid album, therefore mid life, which is generally when you start losing family. The last track on the album represents ones own death, as the first song represents birth.

My sister bought that album when I was in 4th grade (1974 I think) , it became my album. We didn't have head phones so I would lay on the floor with a cabinet speaker on each side of my head. I can't hear very well anymore but...I think it was worth it. "Speak a little louder sonny, I can't hear you." The only video games that existed in 1974 was pong. Packman didn't come out until 1980.

Guys, you have to keep reminding yourself that this is a 50(!) year old work!!! And yet it's still so incredibly modern and relevant. Let's not forget that all those sound effects must have actually been recorded on tape and hand-edited in the studio. Waters recalls trying to throw coins into different sized jars in his garage at home to make it sound good. And he recorded everything with a microphone on a tape recorder. Alan Parsons (the sound engineer at Abbey Road, where the album was recorded) sent engineers and sound engineers into the field to record hundreds of feet of footage, which he then pieced together. He recalls that at one time the entire studio was wrapped in tape with labels and no one was allowed to enter the studio lest they destroy it. From today's point of view, an unimaginable job, but at the same time it must have been incredibly creative. Parsons himself recalls that even when he was recording, he was sure he was creating something special. And he was right! Parsons, by the way, was the one who brought Clare Torry into the studio to record The Great Concert in the Sky. Instrumentally, she is without doubt flawless, but - in my opinion - it's all about the message that this masterpiece delivers. I know from experience how hard it is to catch everything Pink Floyd recorded on first listen. I think it's just not possible. However, I remember that I always followed the music (and the atmosphere of the whole album) on the first listen. Then you find that you have to listen again because you want to concentrate on the lyrics, and after the third and fourth and fifth...... you're just taking in the details, and only after the xth listen, when you know it already, do you enjoy every note and the feeling of bliss it brings. I think that's what you're in for too. And not just with this album - another gem from this band is Wish You Were Here - you MUST hear that too - it's my favourite! Excuse my English - I'm from the Czech Republic and I'm helping myself with a translator...

2023 will be 50 years...I was 15 when this came out and this still is pound for pound THE best album of all time, nothing has ever come close...ever and it never will.

Thank God! Finally a reaction that plays Time and The Great Gig In The Sky together. One leads into the other. To NOT play them together is sacrilege.

Thank you for listening to this album the way it was intended to be heard. Not broken up into individual cuts. This was groundbreaking when it was released. And is still, to this day, a gold standard of musical exploration. And yes, "high" is definitely the best way to listen to this music. And I have a pretty good bourbon buzz going right now myself.

This album is fifty years old in 2023. Still sounds as fresh today and better than anything that’s produced today. This will be one of the most legendary and important albums ever made in my opinion. And still in fifty years or hundred years time it will be as relevant as it was when it was made. Just can’t fault this album in any way.

Some of the greatest music reactions are to the song Time. People get choked up/emotional because of the lyrics. We can all relate to them to some degree … “And the one day you find ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run - you missed the starting gun”.

There is a reason why this album was in the top 100 billboard charts for over 7 years. It's truly one of the best ever produced.

The song between "Time" and "Great Gig..." is actually titled "Breathe-reprise" That's why it's so similar to "Breathe."

This album requires patience. If you're in a hurry for it move along and to go someplace, this is not the album/music for you. So sit back, relax and stop pushing for the next.... It is also music that you should listen to several times. Each time pay attention to the difference parts of the music. The next, the lyrics ect... Each and every time you will pluck a different gem. This is the reason I like these reactions. They give a different point of view. In addition, when I compare the music produced today. It doesn't even compare.

Like I tell younger people not only is music different today, but the way you listen to it is. It’s not about how many bad quality songs you can fit on your device. It’s about the sound quality of the music and the content itself. I’m glad to see that younger people are buying vinyl and sound systems again to experience the music the way it was intended high-quality loud eyes closed in the dark.

I still cycle this album on a routine. It's only 45 min. Or so long, but damn worth the time. Never gets old even after hundreds of listens.

Dark side of the Moon is a towering artistic achievement that people will still be listening to, appreciating, and talking about 50 years from now

Probably the greatest Rock album of all time! Clare Torry did an impeccably, creative and incredible job on this song, she did a number of shows with Pink Floyd, not only for this song, but also as one of the backup singers. Pink Floyd always toured with backup singers from the 70s on. Speaking of touring, Pink Floyd PLAYED "The Dark Side of the Moon", album before it was an album,.... live for over a year before the album was released in March 1973! The whole album at most every show in 1972 and the beginning of 1973. Crazy right? No band did that kind of thing, just the opposite, a band would release an album, then tour to promote the album. Pink Floyd is on another level!

Its honestly one of the greatest albums of all time. The Great Gig in the Sky is my favorite song of all time. There is SO much emotion in that song. Not just in Claire Torrey's vocals, but in the piano part, also. It simply drills down to the core of my soul. It's a perfect song. And you guys did an outstanding reaction to it.

Thanks for playing it as it should be heard. Refreshing to hear Great Gig hot dropping out of Time.

Time, for me starts with conception... the bells. Then you hear the baby's heartbeat with the mothers. Then birth... then the rest of your life into the afterlife. It's a masterpiece

Don't NEED drugs for Floyd, but if you do indulge, and then happen to listen to Floyd, and start to hear ALL the tiny little notes they play in the background of the major part of their tracks, well, one can travel dimensions. Or so it seems.

The video games probably took cues from Floyd, this was 1973. Pong was just coming out. Great reaction as always. Easily top 5 albums of all time, probably #1

Dark Side of the Moon is really special; before the microwave age when we had to be patient! It's like a long amazing piece of poetry to music, you allow your mind to take you on your unique journey listening to the album. Never tire of it, even after almost 50 years of listening. It fills my soul...🙂

You did exactly the right thing! A Pink Floyd song, by its own, is generaly very hard to fully comprehend. To get a good understanding, you really have to listen to the full album, from begining to end. Most of Pink Floyd song are like movie score. The music (and few lyrics) guides you through your own life's experiences and the movie occurs in your head. It's for you alone!

Ya. I had the pleasure,of seeing them in a soccer stadium in Canada after this album came out. A once in a lifetime experience. Never been to a concert where u were taken away on a such a journey. I am forever grateful to have had this experience.

Gentlemen, I think you'd enjoy looking up the story of Clare Torry's vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky." She showed up at the studio for what she thought was an audition. They gave her essentially no direction other than to listen to the music and sang what she felt. She had no idea what to do and just made it up on the spot without a clue as to what they wanted or were even looking for. They did two takes, then dismissed her. She thought she lost the job because she didn't know what they wanted, and wasn't aware that they had used it until the album came out. What she didn't know is that the band didn't know what they were looking for either, but they were stunned after her performance and then knew that what she did is what they were looking for.

The music on this album could take you away from whatever thoughts were bothering you, and the lyrics made you contemplate your entire existence. IMO, it’s the best album ever.

Clare Torry, who sings “The Great Gig In The Sky”, was hired to put a vocal on the track, did her vocal, and had no idea that they’d used any of it until one day she walked past a record store and saw the album for sale. She bought one and took it home to play it, and was stunned to find they’d not only used it all, but also gave her a writing credit, meaning she gets royalties on album sales! Truly a great gig in the sky a singer might dream about.

Sadly Floyd did not give co-writing credit to Clare for decades after Dark Side was released, which was inexcusable. She eventually sued Floyd and EMI in 2004, and was awarded co-writing credit and an undisclosed amount of money for her share of back royalties. A shameful episode on Floyd’s part

Good job, guys, doing the whole side 1 without stopping. Looking forward to side 2. It truly is one of the greatest albums (and bands) of all time. I was 19 when this came out in 1973. The album was on the charts for over 14 years.

Well this is beautiful, I've got one channel doing all of Dark Side of the Moon and another doing all of The Wall - listened to both all the way through when I was 14, it's what really solidified me as a classic rock fan.

67 years old and remember the exact moment I went over to a friends house in Denver and he said You Gotta Hear This. Could not freeking believe my ears. Listened a thousand times and still can't.

I ain't gunna lie, for many years I thought it was a black singer on Great Gig (as did most people). I'd never heard white girl sing like that, lol. Google up the story behind that vocal.

The crazy thing about Dark Side Of The Moon is that it is classed as possibly the greatest concept album ecer made, and yet it may not even be Pink Floyd's best album dependng on the listener. Stellar album indeed. The vocal and musical variety is top tier and the lyrics are deep, meaningful and so relevant for any generation to listen to and feel it was made for that tine period. Cheers guys.

Overall, the greatest album ever made imo. Musically, lyrically, production, engineering - it has the best of everything. Glad you're listening to the album bc several songs just don't go without the one prior to it or after it. You guys rock! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Lol I'll try to give you the best insight Ican on these classic great bands ! ☺

Am 66 yrs old now. Blasted it in my Camaro 8 track Craig Powerplay when it first came out. Am listening to my half speed mastered LP of it that I have owned for 45 years as I type this. Where has the time gone??? My favorite album of all time...

The reason why so many consider this one of THE GREATEST albums ever produced if not THE GREATEST is not because the tracks morph into each other, but because it takes you on an emotional roller coaster and paints a picture about all the different aspects of life. And the album completes a loop… as the closing heart beat is the same as the beginning of the record. A true work of genius, using innovative recording techniques and the latest in recording technology. It’s an album you won’t ever stop listening to once you’ve heard it.

i´m so glad to see your generation cherish this. may i suggest something here? the way you like them, of course now you will go straight through their 4 main concept albums, dark side of the moon, wish you were here, animals & the wall. and that is perfect, BUT: pleeeeeeeease do at least two of their live performance soon, so you can experience them on an unfathomable level and understand what force they are: 1) COMFORTABLY NUMB Live Pulse 1994 2) ECHOES Live in Pompeii 1972.

Agreed, they are a class act live, and the lightshow just adds the magic fairy dust for an all-out leave the body experience.

Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time. I was fortunate enough to see them live over 20 times and those were amazing concerts. You have to do a reaction video to their Comfortably Numb song from the live Pulse video. Unreal!!

I was standing in One Octave Higher on night 50 years ago (as of this writing). The new Pink Floyd had come in that afternoon. My friend Dan worked there. He opened a copy and put it on. I stayed, listened and bought one. I still have it in good condition. I felt the music's power to change on that night.

I feel that this was the beginning of a Collective Navel Gazing. Perhaps, the Beatles began the concept album and the Who and The Beach Boys had their albums, also, but the lte 60's were not main stream Americana yet. Radio was still AM and Top 40, and albums were listened to at home, or at some parties. But the 70's ushered in recreational drugs that entered rural America, and the suburbs, and FM radio stations began branching into album rock, and we had cars with 8-track tape decks. And we had innocence. It was all new. And we learned about each other through Rolling Stone Magazine and High Times. This was the album that shook our world; a Collective of teens and young adults, completely separate from the generations before us. This was US, Completely, and we listened, high as hell, with our friends and alone, over and over. And the parents never knew. The police didn't know. No one over 30 knew. Only we knew this was happening. And...Love the O's hat. 🙂

One of the most amazing Pink Floyd songs ever! So incredible that Clare Torry was a little 5 ft nothing English white girl! I thought she was black from the first time I heard this song! What an incredible voice! Who sings like that? An Angel maybe? She was so gifted! The Moon and the Stars aligned for this song for sure! Mind blowing!

Great Gig is both the pain of dying and mourning and the utter joy of meting the Lord face-to-face

I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd in 94 on their final tour. They played this Album in its entirety and was the most incredible show I’ve ever seen.

The Pulse concert 1994 live is one of the best ever put together.

This whole album is just an amazing piece of sequential but yet separate creations, and are really just the story of life from birth to death and all that may lie in between. While far from required, we of a certain age found a little herbal essence really helped to free one's mind to really appreciate the depth of sound and the way it all leads one thing into the other. And to make us wonder and appreciate and to be awed.

My first time on your channel and I really enjoyed it. It’s hard to believe all of the guys in Pink Floyd were younger than 30 when they wrote and recorded this masterpiece. Going to check out some of your Allman Brothers reactions next. Great work! Thank you.

Possibly one of the best bands to ever grace the earth and another top band straight from the UK. Pink Floyd is an experience and you my fiends are going to enjoy it. This album ( and a masterpiece that it is)is the most heard by newcomers but others await you my friends. If you want to see a live video performance watch them perform “echoes pt1” live at Pompeii 1972, All in their mid 20’s and killing it

I was 15 when this album first came out. It was the number one album played everywhere. Every one of my friends, including me, owned it. For some reason, and a good reason, we never burned out. :D Best way to listen to this is from start to finish. Head phones will do, but my friends and I would lay down on a really huge soft bean bag chair, in the center of 4 speakers. And just relax and close our eyes and listen to this entire album. It was an experience. You don't just listen to Pink Floyd, you feel their music.

As I'm now 70 y/o...it takes me back to an incredible time in my life and in the evolution of Floyd and others.....Thanks for a trip down memory lane. Oh..at the time, I had a pair of magnaplanar speakers....each 6 feet tall, 3 feet wide....hinged each foot....We'd partake in whatever substance was around, and then make a six sided phone booth with the speakers...and blast this album....the music was inside the body.
