*ABOUT HEY HEY RISE UP*
'Hey Hey Rise Up', released in support of the people of Ukraine, sees David Gilmour and Nick Mason joined by long time Pink Floyd bass player Guy Pratt and Nitin Sawhney on keyboards, all accompanying an extraordinary vocal by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox. All proceeds go to Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief.
This is the first new original music that they have recorded together as a band since 1994’s The Division Bell.
The video for ‘Hey Hey Rise Up’ was filmed by acclaimed director Mat Whitecross and shot on the same day as the track was recorded. David Gilmour “We recorded the track and video in our barn where we did all our Von Trapped Family live streams during lockdown. It's the same room that we did the 'Barn Jams' with Rick Wright back in 2007. Janina Pedan made the set in a day and we had Andriy singing on the screen while we played, so the four of us had a vocalist, albeit not one who was physically present with us.”
The artwork for the track features a painting of the national flower of Ukraine, the sunflower, by the Cuban artist, Yosan Leon. The cover of the single is a direct reference to the woman who was seen around the world giving sunflower seeds to Russian soldiers and telling them to carry them in their pockets so that when they die, sunflowers will grow.

I am from Kharkiv. Right now I'm listening to this song, and outside the window there are air raid alerts and explosions. It is a combination of music and war. Could I have thought as a child when I bought your first CD that this is possible? That a legend like you will play music in support of my country, and I will listen to it and hide from missiles. Как только создатель группы Барретт оказавший наибольшее влияние на все творчество и звучание, и само название группы придумавший был изгнан - Пинк Флойд закончился. Изменился и жанр и автор песен, две разные группы. Забавно наблюдать за тем как два человека судятся за название Pink Floyd, которое ни тому ни другому не принадлежит. Забавно, но не смешно.

Such an empowering song. That it tears me everytime. Though I'm not an Ukrainian. It gives an unusual sense of relief. And today I was scrolling through Instagram and I came into an Iranian protesters update on what's going on. it has been a while that I'm keeping update on what's going on. They are suffering so much. Then I remembered this song. This never giving up notion. I wish they would sing for the Iranians. That they are not alone and we are kind of looking out for them through a song like this. Pink floyd always expresses words we cant express. I feel so useless for being so helpless and only pray for their wellbeing.

Since you say your from there please let me ask you. Here in the US the media lies about everything, pretty much about EVERYTHING. But over the last 5 or so years they have been reporting that a regime has taken over your country, sounds like here honestly, and that the Ukrainian people have been bombing their own people for years and years now. Is that true? Your own government has been doing that to its people? The US has always said how horrible Ukraine was with corruption and such and not until about a month ago have they changed their whole tune and now they expect everyone to just so ok we stand with them now. Even though they have been reporting for years about how bad your country is. I see videos coming out of Ukraine every day about a bad group in Ukraine that is actually still bombing their own people! I’m not sticking up for Russia, I’m about peace so I don’t support anyone, but I don’t just blindly follow what our government says!! There is a journalist that has been over there for 8 years, and still gives daily reports, and he says that your own Ukrainian people are killing other Ukrainian people. Please clarify this if you can and I’m sorry I just don’t believe anything I see here in our media. Especially when they cram it down our throats daily like they did with the flu. I didn’t believe them then and I don’t believe them now. My honest opinion is our government here in the US just doesn’t want the world to find out that all their corruption goes back to Ukraine. So they have the sheep just blindly following whatever they say and I just question everything!!

I could never imagine that such a famous band as Pink Floyd would do the song with one of my most favorite Ukrainian singer (there are many in fact ❤️). His english was bad but he pulled out the oil rod and said "this good, this bad, so oil must be this" and was super helpful and in good mood. I looked at his licence plate and he was Polish :) Long live Poland

I grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine listening to your music. I remember very well how I was impressed with "The Wall" movie that promoted fighting for one's rights and freedom. Now we are fighting for freedom in Ukraine - not only Ukrainians but the whole world that supports us. Hearing my favorite band performing a Ukrainian folk song gives strength and hopes for victory but also pride for being a Ukrainian. Thank you so much for your support!

Ukrainian American singer here -- and big fan of the Floyd! It means the world to me that you see the truth about Ukraine! And THANK YOU for doing "Oy u Luzi Chervona Kalyna", a song I learned as a child, growing up in a Ukrainian community in Michigan. My parents escaped Ukraine during WWII when Russians took over; but much of my family stayed behind. One great aunt was sent to Siberia because she had a tiny crucafix hidden under the floor board of her house, Russian soldiers came in, found the cross and sent her away for 10 years. History is repeating itself now, as Putin and his Russians attempt to erase Ukrainians once again. We will never be erased! It is written into our national anthem that we will give up our bodies and souls for our freedom and liberty! Pink Floyd, thank you for seeing us! Thank you for recording this powerful song and raising funds for Ukraine! I treasure what you've done! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!

I have listened to Pink Floyd for nearly 48 years when my father slipped on headphones over my ears when I was barely 2 weeks old. The first band I have ever listened to and have been fortunate enough to see perform live a couple times. Suffice to say, they are my favourite band. Great to have reformed for such great cause. I really hope we can see this amongst other Pink Floyd tracks performed live at a charity gig raising money to help Ukrainians rebuild their lives when this nightmare is over. Mr Gilmour I agree when you say " You know, our little problems become so pathetic and tiny in the context of what you see him doing.”. Wishing you, your Ukrainian relatives and Ukraine love, long life and happiness.

I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1966 when l first heard "The Nile Song" still one of my favourite songs, my only regret that l haven't been flush enough to see them live whenever they have been down here at the end of the earth.

This whole thing is a very personal topic for David clearly because some of his family are of Ukrainian heritage. I'm so pleased him and Nick have got together to create this song and are trying whatever they can possibly do to help all the Ukrainians that have been affected

I've been a super fan for over 30 years, from around the age of 10. My greatest regret in life is that I've never had the opportunity to see and hear them live, mainly due to where I live.

@@laurah8752 my best memory of seeing them live was in 1994 Division Bell tour. It was outdoor at the Chateaux de Chantilly just outside Paris. I relate to your feeling. I also wanted this to go on for ever. By far the best concert I have ever been to. Nothing’s ever come close to it in all those years since. It was simply special.
