You might not like long songs, but I'm sure that you'll listen to this song over and over for years to come. The trick when listening to Pink Floyd's music is that you just need to not think about it and let it just happen!

I appreciate your reaction as an extreme Pink Floyd fan like I am. It’s not my Pink Floyd favorite album either but it’s part of who they are and how they developed their sound so you have to realize that this is just something that they had to go through and this was in a different time. Where experimental albums were allowed and nowadays the record industry is so tight something like this could never happen but it help these guys develop and become better later

The GREATEST Pink Floyd song of all! You've got plenty of years to absorb this song - just like all of us long time PF fans. Every song is a different experience - and this one tops the list! Even you will like it MUCH MORE in the coming years. That's what makes PF the legend that they are. They were innovators and pioneers long before they became just another rock band by the time of The Wall. Animals was their last GREAT album.

I never really liked this when it came out; not because of the music itself (which we were used to as it was Floyd still in their psychedelic era), but because the recording of it sounded so dull, like they did it under a blanket. But the great (original) quad mix on "The Early Years" blu-ray has me listening to it again.

Don't feel bad, Dru. I'm actually surprised you sat through that. Even the band members themselves are not very fond of the song today. It worked in the 70's when music was much more experimental and 20 minute pieces were not at all unusual. But yeah, it kinda loses something in the 2000's. I feel the same way about Echoes on the Meddle album. Both songs could have cut out some of the synthesizer sound effects and easily been about 7-10 minutes shorter. Some quotes from the band. [Atom Heart Mother] was a good idea but it was dreadful. I listened to that album recently: God, it's shit, possibly our lowest point artistically. Atom Heart Mother sounds like we didn't have any idea between us, but we became much more prolific after it.- David Gilmour Atom Heart Mother is a good case, I think, for being thrown into the dustbin and never listened to by anyone ever again!... It was pretty kind of pompous, it wasn't really about anything.- Roger Waters

I believe we have to talk here about a word TRIPPING. What does it mean? Is it to have experience you can clearly and reasonably explain? Or is it about jumping on a wild journey and letting your mind take you where it wants, not where you tell it to go. This composition is another trip from PF, just a bit different to the rest of their repertoire. It's not a song for reaction videos, you shouldn't try to understand it (although that can be done). Instead you should lay down, perhaps late evening, lights off, eyes closed, your mind's eye wide open. LET IT create worlds you've never seen, and paint them in indescribable colours. It's the journey that matters. If you do not fancy another go at it, give it some time, let it sit at the back and return to it months or years deeper into your dive. It just may surprise you. That's true about many compositions other people may describe as great but which do not resonate with you. Sometimes even your current mood may change the way you perceive it.

I rather like this album and this track. I wish I could interview myself after having heard it the first time in the 90s. That whole Klingon Opera bit in the middle is just bizarre. I think there is maybe a little bit too much incoherency/noodling around at times, but maybe that makes the bits where it all comes back together, stand out that much more.

You must consider that the suite was composed in a transition period; then the band had no a clear way where they wanted to get to. Psychedelic influences and experimentation are still there but only from time to time they succeed in conveying a balanced sound, matching the classical opera with Rock. Anyway it Is NOT a bad piece: you must listen to it many times to appreciate
