OK. Firstly, It's called a gong. Secondly, I want this song played at my funeral!!!. The first half is about my sometimes chaotic life, the second half, my ascension into Heaven, [ well, I'm hoping. I have been good! lol ] . This whole gig in Pompeii is fantastic. I have great memories of the time when I first saw it. This is my absolute favourite era of Floyd. There is a track called, "Careful With That Axe Eugene", that is in this Pompeii film, but there is an original studio version and various other live versions [played slightly differently every time] as well. My particular favourite version is on the album "Ummagumma", in fact the whole first side of that album has four live tracks. It has a beautifully atmospheric sound, with, shall we say, a little twist in the tail, but the quiet part is so soothing .Also, if you want to do individual tracks from this film, try "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" . Pink Floyd, the masters of the soundscape!. And you Pope, are an absolute legend for reacting to this. YOU rock!

A GREAT Pink Floyd song from the 1960s is ASTRONOMY DOMINE (live) from the Ummagumma album. When I listen to this song, I close my eyes and envision traveling through outer space. As usual, David Gilmour’s guitar work is superb. The entire band is superb.

The first era of Floyd I ever really loved :) You already know I'm here for it. Great performance! There are many wonderful live recordings of this one out there, all hit just a bit differently. Obviously, Pompeii holds a special place with such a quality recording. Check out "Set Controls for the Heart of the Sun" since you're doing some older stuff.

Can't believe I am saying this, but watching your reaction and being a life long Pink Floyd fan, it would have been kinda cool to be one of the Ghost of the fallen who were berried in volcanic ash and burnt alive to sit in that empty stadium to have the Pink play a concert for me and to later have a great reaction from Young People like yourself who appreciate! GOD Bless Young Man!!

Floyd were so Avant Garde & adventurous in their early years, this is a perfect example. So wonderful to experience such unbridled creativity in this unique setting. Have noticed you have yet to do King Crimson, "In the Court of the Crimson King" , their first album in 1969 has been described by many as the first great progressive rock album. It features Greg Lake before he joined ELP, recommend "21st Century Schizoid man", "The court of the Crimson King" & "Epitaph" , enjoy the journey, cheers

Loved this version! It’s been a while since I’ve watched it…your reaction and comments about the talent required to perform like this was right on. No other band on earth can play live with this much intricacies consistently blowing everyone away! My wife and I saw Roger Waters “Us and Them” tour in Nashville in 2017, that concert was awesome…but a distant second to the 1994 Nashville tour of Pink Floyd at Vanderbilt Stadium! Great memories! RIP to my wife. CC

A beautiful composition with a fantastic atmosphere. It is actually an anti-war song. Just to clarify: the Amphitheatre of Pompeii was an arena building designed for gladiatorial games and sporting contests in this ancient city. It is the oldest known structure of its kind in the world (built in 80 BC) and has only been played by Pink Floyd (4 days without an audience in 1971), Frank Sinatra (without an audience), David Gilmour (two concerts to close the Rattle That Lock tour in 2016) and in 2018 King Crimson (one concert with an audience). None of the other musicians have played here.

In the (perfect) context of the Pompeii amphitheater it also evokes the destruction wrought by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 BC. Or at least I associate it with that too. In any case, the whole concert is epic.
