Ron is a very good man. he did design my panel almost 5-6 years ago before this panel come out and that time he was looking for a way to use injected bezels. I am actually plan to order 3 sets of panels with my own design to him but for now I can not . it cost me a lot. maybe next year. he is electrical engineer I guess that is why he is so good in wiring and connections

Thanks Russ. Another great review. The panel just needs trimming the top left corner into a curve. The sticking out black corner detracts a little from the immersion. But otherwise a great piece of kit.

Yes but the fact that it shows in Mixed Reality is really just because the passthrough chroma key mask has square corners. I am working on a fix for that. Of course if the black part was removed you would see the corner of the monitor which would be worse.

Yes fairly easy to swap panels from one to another which can't be done with most aircraft specific sim panels like the excellent but permanent Stay Level Avionix panels

Hi, saw this video a couple weeks ago, just wanted a little confirmation bias...i assume the monitor behind the panel itself is touch screen? I didn't hear that explicitly stated. By the sound of it, this panel and monitor setup is far more economical than trying to buy each individual product via realsimgear or another site. makes a real setup much more affordable for the average person. Thanks for staying on top of this stuff!

No it is a regular monitor of the type stated in the video. The real knobs allow control of all displayed instruments.

Thanks for the great review! How does the panel look through Quest 3 (somewhat grainy) passthrough, compared to blurriness of full VR instruments using DLSS? It would be great if we could get panels for PMDG 737 or Airbus A320 in the future too!

Good question. Russ, could you comment on how clear it is to see the gauges in passthrough and how it is at using the dials? Thanks for the great review.

The quest 3 is IMHO not quite good enough for details on the G5 for example. Two hints: Keep room lights bright and dim any LCD screens almost as low as you can. Bright lights make the pasthrough less grainy but LCD screens that are bright "bloom" and are hard to read. I think a 100% scale g530 would require leaning in to read well. It kind of reminds me of the world view on the original Oculus CV1.... useful but not quite there to use as if you had no headset on. The pass through resolution will improve and I still prefer mixed reality over pure VR most of the time,

Russ, I am building a 737 top and bottom panel with two 42” touchscreen TVs and then planning on using a Knobster and a fixed ball mouse to control front panel knobs and switches in vr on x plane. Do you think the mixed reality cutouts for the top and bottom panel tvs (for the mass amount of switches) will work ok? Will I be able to see them ok in vr?

A basic six-pack WITH OBS 1 and 2 would be VERY VALUBALE since it can be modded to ANY GA plane. I hope they will develop it. The NAV stuff with knobs is essential though.

I was thinking he could develop a side panel to attach and add a couple nav instruments. Problem is that after that the total might cost more that the complete panel for the 23.8" monitor

just need CAD skills, a lazer cutter, a 3D printer, a soldering station, and you might come close with a DIY version but if you don't have the equipment it is way cheaper to buy it.

Ouch, the rotation on the heading knob on the G5 seemed to be lagging or missing inputs when turning too fast? This is a normal thing with those cheaper encoders sadly. They miss pulses. Also, why those default knobs with the white stripes? That’s for pot meters, not encoders. Might have been a better choice for Ron to make his own plastic knobs.

4:35 what the f*** is going on?) why the heading marker continue to move while you stop rotating a knob? this software delay makes all of this pointless. another instruments the same "accurate"?)

Because the heading indicator hasn't reached the heading, set by the knob, yet. That is imho a software "problem" (if any), not a hardware one.
