Yeah. The French are the ones who educated Pol Pot on the subject of equity, and who also don’t see the connection between having the highest minimum wage in the world and the highest unemployment rate amongst young people in the world. The conclusion is don’t listen to the French when it comes to economic issues.

Look at France. It isnt succeeding in any metruc that benefits the average person. France isnt even "French" in large sections of the nation. If France was a person it would be in a hospice home

@@nationalzero269 if you have a degree in france , you can get jobs easily as a young adult. Might not be good ones , but plenty of companies are searching for employees constantly because of tax cuts and government subventions.

It's not a threat, it's a promise. If inequality is not addressed, there will be wars whether we want them or not. It's why the US invaded Vietnam, to get rid of some of our poors.

Financial freedom is inextricably linked to personal freedom. If you think this is bad wait until the government institutes universal income and then uses that to gain compliance.

You mean I'd rather the Elite 1% hold onto all thier wealth, set up tax havens and use thier money to influence and manipulate governments to do thier bidding. When will Libertarians realise government is just a tool for society, you either keep it accountable to the people or you let the elite have all the freedom in the world to use it agians't the people.

We saw exactly what would happen in that instance with Trudeau‘s response tothe trucker protest in Canada.

Not sure how that will work if they are one of the few holdouts. Besides, we are about to lose our world reserve currency status. Things are getting dicey.

Every penny, Eurocent, Ruble, Won, etc., must be accounted for. It always starts as a way to ensure fairness but ends as a means to control everyone.

What do you expect from someone from France? Piketty is either a puppet or a fool.

It sounds like we've already got this. Earlier this year, an IRS agent disclosed to OMG Media that the IRS is constantly monitoring everyone's bank accounts worldwide, and also that the IRS has just begun using AI to analyze this data to catch tax evaders.

I owned a holiday home in France for 20 years. Just sold it recently and although I loved the climate and environment I finally had enough of the never ending rule making and increasingly invasive authoritarianism. It’s a nanny state and a tax nightmare. I don’t regret leaving.

Seems like it would cost so much to do this, it would be a break even enterprise. The new money collected would only be enough to pay the exorbitant cost of the bureaucracy to manage all this.

Here's a wild idea ... collect capital gains taxes at the owners current tax rate on their current holdings inprovements against their last taxed bases every year. That solves the lions share of the problem.

@@acctsys Not likely. The issue is that with capital gains not being taxed until they are sold that money can effectively be 100% of your income and none of it will ever be taxed. That is a loophole big enough to drive a supertanker through and it should be closed. Also Clinton lowered the capital gains tax rate to the lowest it had ever been and it hasn't gone up much since. That tax rate should probably be the same is your general income tax rate.

Here's a wild idea: stop taxing various forms of income and instead tax outgoing (purchases). Then you don't have to try to invent new ways to tax success or the appearance of success

If this bloke (Piketty) gets anywhere nears the levers of power we should be very concerned. Forget about the efficiency/practical downsides that even Piketty himself acknowledges about inflation, expropriation et al, let's just start with the lack of MORAL case for them. He's a clown, but a dangerous one.

He wrote a book about how the income inequality in the US in and around 2012 was worst than in the gilded age.

Piketty is a foul, he makes super elementary mistakes in his work (such as the simplified interest fallacy) and has been caught with his pants down on data manipulation (excel cells with *2 a hardcoded number to get the values he wants). Also learn to spell his name if you're going to be a snob, its not spelled Picketty ;)
