Pig farm corvid epidemic

Спорт

Helen Tinner is out with Nick Elsdon from Anglia Sporting, on a pig farm with a massive corvid problem. Nick does his best to put Helen in the right spot, but the birds are proving very elusive today. Despite all that Helen still has a great day in the hide, and learns a lot about fieldcraft along the way.

We’re proud to promote enjoyment of fieldsports and the countryside. There are three guiding principles to everything we do on Fieldsports Channel:
▶ Shoot responsibly
▶ Respect the quarry
▶ Ensure a humane, clean and quick kill
Why shoot corvids?
Crows, rooks, magpies and jackdaws are a farm pest that eat crops and animal feed. They are on the ‘general licences’ for shooting across the UK, with some local variations. They are usually shot over decoys.
They are omnivorous predators and occur across all habitats. They are major predators of ground-nesting birds, waders and song birds, consuming both eggs and young chicks.
Corvid predation particularly impacts thrushes (White, P.J.C., Stoate, C., Szczur, J. & Norris, K.J. 2014: www.gwct.org.uk/research/scie... ). Research has shown that the populations of curlew, golden plover and lapwing are significantly improved by controlling corvid numbers (GWCT Research Waders on the Fringe 2010: www.gwct.org.uk/policy/policy... ).
Crows also predate on lambs and young livestock, and can damage newly-sown cereal crops, particularly in winter and spring when other food sources are scarce.

My Father tried it there once. He shot 3 jackdaws, 2 pigeons, and a magpie all day. No rooks. Cost was £130. Never again.

With crows you need to be set up and in your hide before sunrise. As soon as they see you they will not come anywhere near cause they know you're there. So if you keep moving they will see you and know you're still there. As soon as they see one of you leave they will start to come in again.

I'm American and grew up on Monte Python which has completely ruined my sense of perception when it comes to listening to and watching Brits talk with each other and be interviewed for tv...it is all a comedy sketch from there on out and it will never cease...brits are natural comedians and don't even know it. No offense...but i don't think Brits can understand what Monte Python did to them...
