PIF/PSA Comparisons

As it's been a whole year since I've posted my own style of PIF/PSA compilations, here's a new one like no other. It's been an idea I've been wanting to do for months actually.

One of the most egregious rip-offs I’ve seen is from my home country in America. It was a powerful to me at the time. You see a mother feed baby food to what looks like someone in a high chair, but you kinda doubt it’s a baby because they’re making no sound. She says, “Maybe after this, we can go to the park. You always like to go to the park, don’t you?” Then her lip quivers, and she starts to break down crying. Then we see clearly that’s it’s a young man in a wheelchair, and even though he has a flat expression, a tear trickles from his eye. Then the tag line comes up, “Drink and Drive, and You Can be Young Forever.” I think that’s clearly a ripoff of the “Dave, Just One More” PIF from England, just with more sticky pathos like most PSAs in my country.

I can tell that it's a blatant rip-off of that one just by your description of it. Also, personally speaking, the tagline sucks.

Never would I have thought I’d see British Top Chef. That’s honestly so strange how similar the two are - both mention fiancés/marriage on the weekend -ofc the burns - slips - the ‘I’m about to have a terrible accident’ line. That PSA seems so familiar though, when did it come out? (Not the Canadian vers ofc)

I think it was 2009, two years after the Canadian original.

Some great comparisons! And a bunch of my personal nightmare fuel as well. I think some of these, there's no clear winner - such as the smoking ones. Both horrifying in their own way (though I'm slightly partial to the South African one). For the "freeze" idea of an impending traffic accident, that US texting one is awful; the acting is particularly bad. My favorite in that general category is the Thai one of the couple on their motorbike. Have you seen the ripoff (from somewhere in the Middle East, I forget exactly where) of "Julie"? It's pretty sad, especially the way the son who's not wearing a seatbelt just sort of lazily flops toward the driver. Unintentional comedy!

I actually was going to include the Thai ad and have it paired with NZTA's "Stop" but felt it wasn't worth it. Also, I've not seen that one. I have however seen the Turkish rip-off of Queensland Transport's most notorious shocker ("Stroller/Pram", whatever it's called). If anything I would've included that but I felt I didn't want to scare people again after that bit of "Top Chef".

@@bryneff BTW, That's from the same creator as that Shame Rip-Off you Included. I actually seen more ripoffs from them. They're name is WHO and did have some original PIFs that are clever and also unintentionally funny.

You should have also compared "Going Out in Style" by Partnership for a Drug-free America and that one anti-speeding pif by Scottish Office, both involving a twist with a man dressing up in a tux being dead. And feedback: can you also include the year, along with the country, in your compilations for convenience sake

I never knew of that one from the Scottish Office, to be honest. Also, personally, there's no point including years in each PIF I show when there's some that have no year known. Although, the only time I did that was for the NSPCC Full Stop compilation.
