Pietro came in to tell us about his rare bowel cancer: pseudomyxoma peritonei. This is a rare type of cancer that begins in the appendix and can spreads to the lining of the abdominal cavity (the peritoneum). He talks about his initial symptoms, recovery and return to work for a supportive employer. Pietro moved in with his parents when he was unwell but regained his independence. He strongly objects to shame and stigma about cancer and encourages people to talk about their illness. Finally he mentions about stoma cancer and also emotional complications such as depression.
