Description: "During the 1870s a revolution erupted in French painting. Encouraged by artists like Gustave Courbet and Édouard Manet, a number of young painters began to seek alternatives to the traditions of Western painting that had prevailed since the beginning of the Renaissance. These artists went directly to nature for their inspiration and into the actual society of which they were a part. As a result, their works revealed a look of freshness and immediacy that in many ways departed from the look of Old Master painting. The new art, for instance, displayed vibrant light and color instead of the somber browns and blacks that had dominated previous painting. These qualities, among others, signaled the beginning of modern art.
Pierre Auguste Renoir was a central figure of this development, particularly in its impressionist phase. Like the other impressionists, he struggled through periods of public ridicule during his early career. But as the new style gradually became accepted, during the 1880s and 1890s, Renoir began to enjoy extensive patronage and international recognition. The high esteem accorded his art at that time has generally continued into the present day.
Renoir was born in Limoges on Feb. 25, 1841. Shortly afterward, his family moved to Paris. Because he showed a remarkable talent for drawing, Renoir became an apprentice in a porcelain factory, where he painted plates. Later, after the factory had gone out of business, he worked for his older brother, decorating fans. Throughout these early years Renoir made frequent visits to the Louvre, where he studied the art of earlier French masters, particularly those of the 18th century-Antoine Watteau, François Boucher, and Jean Honoré Fragonard. His deep respect for these artists informed his own painting throughout his career."

Renoir has such brilliant color in his paintings. Some of them seem more realistic than a photograph. One of my favorites is the first one shown on the front of this video. I wonder if the Catholics acquired most of these paintings.

I find it amazing how the quality of his paintings vary I. guess the better ones were done when he was young his failingvhealth and eyesight must have been terrible for him but apparently he enjoyed doing it right to the end of his life

I had no idea Renoir was so talented in terms of having mastered different styles to express himself. In the museum I frequent you generally only see portraits of young girls wearing lovely clothes.

a simple ojo de buen pintor ...Renoir no le llega a Monet ...Monet lo supera en todos sentidos...Renoir pinta plastas de pintura, amontona colores y se le escapa la luz....Monet era un genio de la luz...atrapaba la luz como nadie . Era genial ...quien veia su pintura se hipnotizaba con su colorido modo de atrapar la atmósfera y la luz. ...sentia que estaba ahi ...olia las ramas y la nieve ...atrapaba el olor del viento y del mar ... Monet por siempre...

eye am permitted to do "Homeschooling" in Virginia because eye read "Homeschooling for Excellence" and eye have paid taxes through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) only my spouse or someone else (tax preparer) filled it out for me..and eye also studied Tax Law or went to Tax Prep School at Jackson-Hewitt Tax Preparation School, similar to H&R Block..and went to "StudyWorks", similar to "Kaplan" and my SAT score went from about an 800 Vee plus Emm in 11th grade to a 1140 or 1160 in 12th grade and it was good enough to get directly accepted into University of Maryland College Park School of Engineering where eye wanted to become a civil engineer...and eye dreamed of traveling the world, taking pictures of real gardens and putting pictures of them on one single website..and eye have yet to see one website which has ALL the famous real gardens of the World on one website...a "globetrotting civil engineer" would know such things as..how to build garden walls and a home for a house and garden..and before my dad died...eye knew he was worried about me an my brother becoming homeless for various reasons...
to dig a garden plot w/o Roundup: slice it off like icing and turnover for critters to chew on..and then break it up with a hoe or a big metal shovel..and mix in nutrients...and dig down...and there is more to it..olne might get a civil engineering degr

The inability of a painter to accurately paint the eyes, nose, and mouth of the human face is a serious flaw that some painter's can never overcome.

if you search my name I put a way to put a small 1/4 acre type of family farm on the internet..and my dad said..."don't put farms on residential property" but also on internet is that eye put in a "French Drain": the farmland and house are separated and not connected..and in "trenches on the perimeter" but the repercussions were: my neighbor planted ..shade trees down the property line and then my garden was no longer...a sunshine garden...but a shade garden..and then my Mammoth Sunflowers were "crippled" and my tomato crop for one year's yield went from 500 to 2...or somewhat thereof.
