Pier runners at Roatan Honduras| Harmony of The Seas| Royal Caribbean| 3/5/2020| Left behind??

A heart breaking video of our time in port at Roatan Honduras. Ship was leaving at 3:30 ship time. We waited 35 minutes and then we left. Like our captain says "we didn't leave them they left us".

    What's heart breaking is the absolute audacity of these two women to think an entire ship should wait patiently for their late arrival. They will hopefully learn a value lesson and make sure to keep better tabs on their time management.

    We have done 4 cruises so far and we have one planned for next year and the year after. Carnival makes it very clear about being on time back to the ship at ports. If you are shallow enough to make a whole ship wait for you because you can't follow rules then you deserve to be left behind.

    We did a ship sponsored tour of "Florence on your own" where essentially the excursion was the bus ride and a walk to the meeting place. One guy was over an hour late. The rest of us were hot and tired after a long day and were trying to convince the guide to just leave him....his wife and kids were quite upset. The guide called her company several times...seems we were the last bus to leave Florence, so they told her to wait....so 23 of us stood in the hot sun for over an hour waiting for one jerk. No problem at the ship, but so frustrating.

    You don't necessarily have to take your travel documents with you, but it's a good idea to put them in an easy to find place in your cabin, so the crew can locate them. They will go into your room before the ship departs and attempt to locate any items you might need to fly home, like your wallet or passport. They'll hand them off to a port representative, who will then give them to you once you return to port after the ship is gone.

    If every official excursion has come back on time, then the ship should have left at 3:30 sharp. No more waiting for these people. This is how you teach them a lesson about punctuality. Do you think your flight will wait for you if you are late getting to the airport or gate? Nope. If the flight is schedule to leave at 4pm and the doors are supposed to close at 3:50pm, they will close at 3:50pm whether you are there or not. Cruise lines should adopt this. Though it would put an end to these wonderful videos 🙂

  • @v12tommy

    @v12tommy

    I think cruise lines do follow that, but sometimes there are other factors as well. I don't think they are leaving late to wait for people, they are checking their cabin for passports, stuff like that. I take a similar approach when I drive Uber from time to time. I wait 5 minutes, and if they aren't there, I'm gone. Had many people chase me down the street. Not quite as cool as dock runners, but they're gonna learn somehow.

    While it's a good idea, if you're doing an excursion where it would be inconvenient, put them in a conspicuous place in your cabin. Before the ship leaves, they should enter your cabin and look for documents or other stuff you might need, which will then get handed off to a port representative before the ship departs.

    We have been on 30+ cruises and seen very few pier runners. We have always been back to the ship in good time and we mostly do our own thing ratther than ship excursions. The only time weve been late was on a ships excutsion when we got held up in traffic. Of course the shipmwaited for the 40 or so who were late! Incidently, if the ship cecides to go and leave anyone the crew will gominto their cabin and getntheir passports, which thry give to the agent on shore to give to the guests, so they can then travel to the ship. The agent will also assist in arranging transport, at the gursts expense, for them.
