Спорт

The first of our Totally Awesome Pier fishing tips videos. In this episode, Graeme Pullen takes The Totally Awesome Fishing Show down to Eastbourne in Sussex, for an exclusive interview with one of Britains top shore match anglers, Tony Kirrage. If you enjoy shore and beach fishing, then you are going to appreciate the tips on how to fish a pier, beginners and experienced alike should find something in here that might get them the extra fish. Pier fishing is ideal for beginners to shore fishing, as no long casting is involved, and you have easy access, and usually the help of other pier anglers. Be one of the first to view the latest spinning reel, the Akios Scora 80 Fixed-Spool Tournament Reel and check out Tony's pier rig. It's another first for the best all-round fishing show in the business. Remember, the more you know, the more you catch!

used to fish eb pier, knew owner of pier so fished for free and looked after tackle shop for a while. Mullet used to catch alot using bread just directly down on flat calm day tide going up then down. Best time is morning. Bass used to catch by the bucket load 3lb+ . go to the bottom deck and to the end corner on the left facing down the pier. In around August/September/October bass are on feed to bulk so use a sidewinder (shimmer eels) about 6-10 in a pack and not that expensive. Single 2/0 hook onto a 1oz/2oz lead using half meter fluorocarbon line. Lead hooks onto main line. Cast 1/2 hours before full tide and then upto 3/4 down. The current will take your line into the pier. Cast as far as you can parallel to the pier slightly to the right. Let it drop to the bottom. Then reel in but be quick not to get snagged. Jig it if you can twice every 4 turns. Half way or on the way down youll hit. If you match high tide with early morning youll get 20+ bass in 2 hours mainly 3+ lb easy. Black bream is caught top deck to the right cast out 30/40 yards in june july using rag if you can or makie / squid strips on a small hook. Youll also catch flatties too. dsf

For any beginners in the South, the pier Graeme visits in the vid is quite possibly the best one to head for, so good to see a film on it. As anglers are so sectioned off from the public, learners can just concentrate on fishing. Worthing Pier is an option too as they have a lower deck for anglers, away from the public, as does Deal Pier in Kent.

matt gosling = I live in Brighton, but my daughter lives in Eastbourne about a mile from his shop, so a visit to see her and the kids is usually combined with a visit to see what Tony has on offer! Nice man, loaded with all sorts of info, you can't go wrong! Unfortunately though, the new owner of the pier has declined to renew the tackle shop lease and the fishing was also stopped for good in March 2016 on the orders of the new owner of the pier, Mr Abid Gulzar!

Never used or even seen one, but would cast most sea weight for shore fishing I guess. Certainly worth a try. Would save buying new beach rod. I often use pike rods for lighter beach fishing.

Braid is in common use on multipliers now and is seen as the way to go by so many anglers these days! and the problems that used to be quoted no longer are!. (March2013) Tight Lines All...

I went to Angling direct to get a full wagler set up and it cost me less than 100 quid, Ive caught loads with it, no beginner will spend 150 quid on a reel... Unless they are stupid. I feel sorry for beginners who go to Tonys shop for advice if thats what he comes out with. Aside from this video, Keep up the good work

And ask other fisherman for tips . Your learn as you put the time in . It’s a sport that’s very addictive and helps keep kids get out doors and not on the computer 24/7 and good way to meet nice people

My advice to any beginner and I’m not saying this is true to Tony’s shop but there is a saying that is worth remembering when buying tackle, “There is Tackle designed to catch Fish and there is also tackle designed to catch fishermen”, Remember if you are new to fishing unless you know the shop keeper Well do your research before you buy anything as you could end up with a tackle box full of stuff that has caught you, To start off keep it simple no need at the beginner stage to rush out and spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds straight away that comes later with experience and knowledge .

i recently bought a Advanta RTF Spin Combo 6ft (1.8m) 10-30g/30FD and was wondering what type of lures to use with this and would it be any good for my son to use (who is 15) when i go pier fishing just to cast out and try to catch some fish?

Maybe ask the local tackle shop in the pier area. Or rig him up with some small hooks and try bait fishing before going to lures.

I totally agree with Tonys view on striking at bites when ledgering. Lets face it chaps, you're not hooking these fish, they mostly hook themselves.
