As a writer he created the characters and wrote the first five books featuring retired art teacher Miss Emily D. Seeton, a gentle parody of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple.
Ten years after Carvic's death, his books were re-issued in the US and proved sufficiently popular for his Estate to commission further Miss Seeton stories from two other writers using pseudonyms with "HC" initials. Roy Peter Martin as "Hampton Charles" wrote three novels, which were all released in 1990. Sarah J. Mason, writing as "Hamilton Crane", then took up the series (Wikipedia)

I adore Marjorie s performances as Steve Temple ...a wonderful actress!!! I listen to all the Paul Temple Cases several times every year!Thank You so much for this!!!
Nothing better than a sturdy umbrella.
So much better than the rubbish...... these days..... don't you know...
My comment has nothing to do with the plays as such, but just to say how wonderful it is to read other listeners comments. More often than not, the grammar is a joy, and I find myself reading out loud in a sort of imitation of the actresses. Thankfully no one can hear me because I probably sound nothing like, but it amuses me!!
Marjorie Westbury who played Paul Temple's wife "Steve" for over ten years, is a radio legend. She and Gladys Cooper ruled the Drama airwaves in the 50's A listener who enjoyed her work so much left her all her money, which was initially rejected by Ms. Westbury - who begged the listener not to do this.

I LOVED her as Steve & found out just how great a voice actress she was when I saw her standing next to Peter Coke! Looked like his mother! Yet sounded so young. That's talent.
Fabulous entertainment! Thanks for sharing 👍
What a comedy of errors! From beginning to end. Miss Seeton on her way to London’s Royal Opera to see Verdi’s Macbeth & we hear music from Bizet’s Carmen! And the policeman going back for her umbrella will discover more than that! Really enjoyed this. How the world has changed. Not all in bad ways, for sure. But if this is how average people in the U.K. entertained themselves of a Saturday night, bless them, for we shall never see their like again. The days of the Wireless, before TV. Thanks to you & the BBC’s archives, we can get a glimmer of what it was like then. 👏👏👏🙆🏻♀️🇬🇧📻

Really entertaining + fun. Lots happening + interesting characters. Terrific acting, to be expected with the line up. Hi from Oz 👇💜🙃
I love the books. I look forward to this adaptation. Thank you!
That was good
Absolutely loved this, thank you.
Delightfully naive and quite charming😅 thank-you, I really enjoyed it!
The novel by Heron Carvic adapted for radio by Betty Lambda with Marjorie Westbury and Gerald Deacon When Miss Seeton found herself the horrified witness of a brutal murder she little thought that her modest gifts as an artist could prove so valuable to the police.
Thank you
Marvellous xx
The character of Miss Seaton is new to me, and was a happy surprise. I was expecting another Miss Silver, with a touch of Marple. If there’s Miss Marple it’s more the Margaret Rutherford type! Lots of action and well drawn characters. Thank you for the upload. Is there any chance Miss Silver had any plays, and if so, could you one day upload them? Please? Thanks again!
More of these, I would wish for!

Only one gripe - Callas never played 'Carmen' on stage. She did, however, record the full opera with Nicolai Gedda.

They (& she) can "just see her as Carmen" after she's called it "rather sordid"?! See how complex we humans are?
Not sure about this, rather silly 😮 The minute the Morton chap was described by the Vicar, it gave the whole story away🤔
Angie a teenager? Sounds positively middle aged.

I’ve questioned this too the actors playing young girls sound about 35-40! Perhaps there weren’t enough young girls available for these BBC dramas. Does spoil the listening delights. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for this funny mystery play. A mixture of comedy, mystery and drama. With the garbage spewing out of Hollywood these days, it's nice to find alternative entertainment that have good characters and stories and themes. Too bad there was no more Miss Seeton audio dramas, not even new ones. It'll be great if there was a TV series. Then again, modern writers will add woke contents. Again, thanks.
😂
Why would a country policeman have a gun?
It's a nice story, but seems unfinished somehow
'Miss Seeton' has a high pitched shrill voice. Gave up listening after 1 minute!
Miss Seatons voice is unlistenable for me…….overpowering
Miss Seeton's voice is irritatingly loud and shrill. Gave up after a few minutes.
