    We had those type of dudes in the military. Ones that would pull rank for absolutely no reason, other than it made them feel like they were super duper off the automatic, Mr. Butthead Big Shot. "Listen to me! My mom says I'm cool, I'm cool! Now do push-ups!" Lol. Love the videos! These campers look so freakin stellarific! Got a medical retirement from serving and have been thinking about a camper and just...going... everywhere lol. This Alto looks really cool! When we went to pick up our alto earlier this year, the getaway folks told us to go back through commercial/truck lane, which we did, but the officer was not happy at all. He said we should not have used the commercial lane. So confusing 😂

    @kathleenandmikewalker8066

    @@JustinandJess Gnarly tires and more clearance are useless with the caravan movers mounted. Declining road budgets will continue to make Forest Service and BLM roads to the best boondock sites worse every year. And even without the $2600 "marriage saver", sewer pipes reduce clearance. Have had my R1723 since 2016 with no caravan over and am very picky about which FS roads I take it on. Be careful.

  • @JustinandJess

    @JustinandJess

    11 ай бұрын

    @@kathleenandmikewalker8066 for what it's worth, the Expedition is not built on the same frame as the F1743, but rather on a taller frame like the F2114 so the caravan movers engage higher on the tire tread. So there is some benefit. I just measured and there's about 9" of clearance from the bottom of the CMs to the ground. There's 10.75" of clearance below the sewer pipes. When you have a sec, you should measure your R1723 and report back here with the data, because I don't have that info. Thanks for offering your perspective.

    We've had no issue with the AC so far. In fact, the hottest temperatures we've camped in this year were near Big bend in Texas and it got over 90°. One thing I'll note though, The Expedition is by far the best alto at heat management because of its roof rack. The raised solar panels act as a layer of insulation, blocking the sun from hitting the roof directly. I really can't overstate how much of a difference this makes in keeping the trailer cool!

    Im a novice, and have been researching the best trailer for me, and my vehicle. One thing worries me and that is, does pulling a tailer damage my transmission? I just bought a Volvo XC40, towing capacity says 3300 lbs. This car will be my daily driver for years to come, im not looking to replace it for a very long time. . Am i asking for trouble down the road if I use it to tow a trailer? How do you find the maintenance of your smaller suv after pulling a trailer so often? May i ask the manufacturers towing capacity of your suv?

  • @JustinandJess

    @JustinandJess

    11 ай бұрын

    Driving the same vehicle 100K miles while towing vs not is definitely going to result in different amounts of wear and tear. Fortunately, our Toyota Highlander Hybrid (3500lb tow capacity) has been extremely reliable and has required very little extra maintenance. I would probably not get the Expedition with a 3300lb towing capacity. Once you account for extra weight and full holding tanks, I'd say 3500lbs is the absolute minimum, and even then, you really need to be a minimalist and very diligent with weight management. When in doubt, call your automobile manufacturer and ask them about limitations of your vehicle while towing. There are things you can do to reduce wear and tear like getting weight distribution kits, upgraded alternators, etc. that ensure your vehicle tows as safely as possible. You might consider looking into the alto f1743 which is the trailer this one is based off of and it starts at just under 1800 lb. Check out this video that we made about it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aqF8ytylkpC_h7Q.html Thanks for watching and good luck on your search.

  • @JustinandJess

    Most appliances in the Alto are manufactured by other brands like dometic so getting them fixed is pretty trivial. From our experience, you can get almost anything fixed in an alto at any standard dealership. If it's under warranty, Safari condo will work with you to have local RV dealerships provide service for repairs. I've even heard of instances where they will ship parts to that repair shop. Of course, there are some repairs that are more difficult than others, like body work. The alto trailers have a unique aluminum composite constructure called alufiber. Someone rear-ended our alto a couple years back and we had to take it to Get-away RV in British Columbia. That being said, getaway had to subcontract the actual paint work to a local body shop, so you might be able to find a similar automotive body shop that could do that work where you live.
