    work on wrist techniques. Also, it's best to learn sitting as piano is played with your full body, especially upper body.

    Exactly, though an octave can be helpful in other ways. The point of this exercise is to have different rhythms

    Hi. After almost 40 years as a drummer, I've started playing piano (less gear to lug around). I like any independence exercise, this one looks like fun with five fingers and tapping every other note. Polymetric ftw. 🙂

    Being a drummer your hand independence must be great tho right? Like I’ve always struggled with hand independence on the piano but I couldn’t even dream about playing drums with such different rhythms on the different hands. When I move my right hand my left hand just wants to move as well lol

  • @MrRezRising

    @MrRezRising

    @@witext I feel a better word is, "Interdependence". We simply don't have the wiring in our heads to do what many musicians call 'true independence' amongst all our limbs. Yes, there are drummers that can pull off what _seems_ like true independence (Vinnie, Thomas, all the Steve's...) but those are the ones that constantly work at 'interdependence', like when someone can write their name backwards with one hand, and forwards with the other _at the same time_ . Ask them to write their name with both hands moving in the 'easier' way of the same direction and it falls apart. Most drummers do interdependence. What rigorous drum practice does is, present ALL the possibilities on one limb while working through what the other limbs are doing at the same time. Practice enough, and we can do most simple variations between the two, three or four limbs. Practice a lot, and it becomes so smooth, you get a Vinnie. Eg: Quarter notes with right hand, left hand on snare on 2 and 4 with half notes, left foot copies left hand, right foot provides _variation_ as a bass drum pattern. Three limbs doing something simple, while the fourth limb improvises...hopefully something funky. 😅 On piano, it seems to work the same way, except piano music is mainly two limbs instead of four, and so far 'independence' seems to be built the same way. Repetition Repetition Repetition. Or: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall from here, sir?" "Practice practice practice..."

    I have the exact sama Yamaha PSR•E323 electronic piano. I got it used for $30. To be honest, I use it like a Midi-module, from an other keyboard that has much better key action. I use the old Yamaha DX7. Actually, you can select sounds on the PSR from the DX7 directly, just by selecting DX7-preset. I guess the DX7 send CCmessages and since both is yamaha, they talk the same language. Even though the keys of the PSR is not so good, the piano presets are quite good👍

    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) There is nothing more important then getting right with the Creator, Jesus Christ. Those that refuse to come before him and repent with godly sorrow for sinning against him will stand before him in judgment and be cast into the lake of fire. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Heb 9:27) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)
