    At one point I owned the 400 version of this scooter. I bought it for my wife to learn and hopefully get the bug but she never did and it was sold. At the time I also owned and still have a Kawasaki Voyager 1700. I have since added a Suzuki Burgman 650 AN Executive to my stable of toys. The 400 has a responsive engine and can zip away from the lights leaving a lot in its wake - to me the 0-60 is a measure I never worry about. Most of my riding is long days on the open road be it on my scooter/s or Kwaka. I once took the Piaggio 400 on a back road at got it up to 140km/h before deciding I was beyond my comfort zone and skill level. The locking front suspension was the reason I bought the bike for my wife - I rarely used it when I rode except to show off at lights that I could keep my feet up. I agree with the commentary in the video that there is little wind protection around the legs or on the chest. There is almost no fairing and the wind screen is one of those stupid sports bike things that is supposed to gut down glare on the instruments which are recessed in the dash any way. By comparison the Suzuki has an electrically adjustable (while riding) screen that keeps the wind off the chest and thus reduces pressure on the arms and shoulders at highway speed. The Suzuki also has a well built body that provides protection from the wind. The Piaggio 400 could zip in an out of the traffic easily and was great for a trip to the shops but it could hold its own on the highway cruising at 110km/h (the national limit in Australia) all day if needed. It has a shorter wheel base than the Burgman which has a bigger rake allowing for more extension of the legs when highway riding. All of that said I enjoyed riding it as much as the Kwaka or the Suzuki - it is different - in some circumstances more sure footed due to the two wheels up front. Pick the bike/scooter you like and that suits your riding and get out and enjoy the open road.

    Nice comment. I own an MP3 400 (2008 model year) in the United States. I saw them in Paris and had to buy one when I got back to the USA. In Paris they are everywhere and in the USA I am an oddity to many people I drive past. I get scores of people stopping over to check it out. They love the tilting front suspension and the way it locks so I don't have to place my feet on the ground at every stop light and sign. It handles like a motorcycle in the turns, but has superior traction with the extra surface patch due to the two front tires. I have a number of motorcycles, but the Piaggio MP3 is the one I ride through the city because it is quick, fun and has lots of storage. Highly recommend the MP3.

    60 in a 30mph zone! had one of these and loved it, remember once while on grass and climbing a slight gradiant the rear started to come around. A bit of steering into the skid like you would in a car brought everything undercontrol. A two wheeler would have meant a foot down or dropping the bike.

    Interesting review, what's stability like in wet conditions? Does the back wheel try to step out at all, being so top heavy?

    Once accelerated too hard on a grassy upward slope and the rear spun out to the side, a quick flick of the front wheels in the direction of the skid brought it under control no drama! no foot on the ground just easy recovery.

    I purchased my MP3 400 on ebay in the state of Indiana, USA. Then I had it shipped to Massachusetts. There are a number of dealerships in New England, but I wanted a used one because the cost was higher on the new MP3 scooters.

    For most ppl that get a scooter speed is not what their looking for. Myself I want good mpg, at least 70-80 mpg and reliability. Highway driving is not necessary because I'm doing short commutes to work, about 20 miles round trip. So something like my Genuine Buddy 125 gets 95 mpg and a top end of about 60 mph and the price tag is about 1/3 that of the mp3. Nice bike though and if I had an extra 5 grand I'd get one just for week-end fun!

    In case you haven't figured it out by now or for potential buyers you can only activate the front lock on the suspension once the bike is stopped. It disengages once the throttle is opened.

  • @biggstavros5876

    @biggstavros5876

    @@rogersmith5371 That isn`t correct. You can activate it at 4mph just before you stop. The yellow lock light flashes when it is safe to activate it.

    @@biggstavros5876 Thanks for your interest and comment. As I said in my comments I rarely used the locking mechanism except when I was stationary at the lights. I was aware that it could be activated at speeds below 5km/h. If I activated it I waited till I was stopped then tried to look smug as the bike stayed upright and I kept my feet off the ground. I also knew the lock was deactivated by a twist of the throttle. I should have mentioned the need to make sure the bike was perpendicular to the road (not even a slight lean) as this could have an minimum an unsettling effect on the bike and the rider once the system was unlocked. Despite that I still think the Piaggio MP3s are a good idea much as I love two-wheelers. I have since parted ways with Kawasaki and now have a Can Am Spyder RT Ltd and it is much more stable than either the two wheelers or the Piaggio.

    That's why I want to wait for KYMCO's reverse trike The CV3, to hit these shores, made in Taiwan, KYMCO been making engines for 70 years or so. They make the maxi-scooters for BMW[under BMW supervision] same high quality as the Japanese brands and are an OEM engine supplier for others. Right now they're concentrating on marketing the AK550 two wheeler, as competition for Yamaha's TMax 530/560, after discontinuing the MyRoad 700i, but if I want a MyRoad 700 here in Canada, I know where there are a couple of unsold units. The 700 used to be the hot bike/scooter, until the AK550 surpassed it in performance and fuel economy.

    Thanks for the video. Not trying to sound like a hater but you test driving a bike on a public road and hitting 60mph on a 30mph limit road might get you in serious trouble with the law. At the end of the video you show your cars license plates so you're pretty easy to track down by the authorities. Unless I'm missing something, you might want to consider having this video up not including the fact that you might want to test drive other vehicles in a different road. Just trying to help.
