I have owned three Ferraris. In the 20 years I have owned them, here is what I experienced. 2 water pump replaced due to leaks, replaced spark plug wires. One of these was a 1975 car that was 20 years old. I wish I had that kind of reliability in my toyota (which even the door handles broke off in my hand in normal use). I understand all the comments that this post can bring, but this has been my actual personal experience. In my opinon, considering the performance Ferrari is a quality product

This is a beautiful airplane. Although similar, it really can't be compared to the Starship because the Piaggio has a more conventional tail. There are a few of them around my area, and knowing how the PT6/prop match sounds on other turboprop, this airplane has a very distinct sound not like the rest. Even flying overhead on approach/take off, the noise level is very mild, and very tolerable indeed. Thanks for the video.

Icing on airframe / props, prop vibration, lacks pure jet altitudes and higher price than entry level jets. Starship hit the same wall. But some great ideas with wing / engine position. Also helps prevent prop erosion with pusher design. Sandy areas of operation are corporate staple. Does relieve cabin noise levels and I guess the baggage goes in the rear fuselage, where the lav also shares space. 9000hrs turboprop time, wish I could have flown one to see differences. Best wishes and good luck!

Well if you go by stereotypes yes, but if you leave them aside, you'll find out that the Japanese, the Germans, the British, the Koreans and even the US boys among many others others are capable of building stylish objects. Style is a matter of taste, there's a reason why some prefer driving a Maserati rather than a Ferrari.

This aircraft was recently involved in a well-publicized event in the US in which the pilot lost consciousness due to hypoxia. It hasn't yet been made clear whether there was a leak in the aircrafts seal system, no oxygen in the tanks, or perhaps carbon monoxide in the cabin. The air traffic controller, with help from another pilot, were able to awaken the pilot, ultimately, when he failed to respond to the tower. He reduced altitude immediately, and safely landed.

Advanced, unique design. Speed, economy and style. Surprised about all the negative comments. Jaguar made a signature King Air, Baron and Bonanza. I like them all. But none of the Jag edition aircraft can you get in, take off and wave to most VLJs and even some mid-sized jets as you fly past them at 400KTAS at FL350. Ferrari (the car) made all of their magical power with about 3.5 liters of engine displacement. It's arguably the same concept. Bitches

Indeed. The front surface allows compensation of the pitching moment of the main wing but with a positive lift, not a negative lift as usual configuration. This tri-surface layout is extremely efficient in cruise thanks to this.

I think the test pilot was pulling your leg. :) The definition of Canard: In aeronautics, a canard (French for "duck") is a fixed-wing aircraft configuration in which a small horizontal surface, also named the canard or foreplane, is positioned forward of the main wing in contrast to the conventional position at the tail.

Its always interesting to see how long lived airplane designs are, compared to the automotive industry. The design of the Avanti dates back about thirty five years, and the maiden flight of the prototype took place almost 28 years ago on September 26th, 1986. Its introduction to the market followed almost exactly four years later.

aircraft manufacturers do their best to design aircraft that provide a really solid platform for innovation and retrofits for a long time into the future. Getting a type certification, as is required for every airplane to be designed manufactured and sold, from the FAA is a nightmare and a very expensive process, look at cessna, the 172 platform dates back to the 50's. creating new airframes is not quite the same as a car company creating a new chassis.

The tradeoff is that Avanti II lands fast and is not a short field aircraft, restricting the number of airports and conditions that you can arrive in. I have not flown the P.180 just yet, but I imagine it's a much more demanding aircraft as compared with a King Air.

Loud (think King Air) and beautiful on the outside, super quiet and beautiful on the inside. This plane is awesome. The upsides: beautiful, comfortable; large, quiet, luxury interior; very efficient compared to a jet (40% better), near jet-like speeds (400 kts), short takeoff and landing (3300 ft.), fully enclosed bathroom, 9 psi pressure differential for comfortable cabin at altitude The downsides: slower to climb (2,950 fpm) as compared to a jet, expensive ($7 million), complex maintenance

Yes, of course. It's the most efficient design because it's a canard. I'm surprised there's not more of them. If you think about it, the first successful flight was done with a canard style airplane. Introducing the Wright Brothers. This design is safer because the back (main) wing is stall proof because the front stabilizer wing will stall first, returning the nose to a more level pitch. Where else are you going to get 400mph at 19 gallons/hour? Oh, that's right ... there's the car! :)

@roeslerswiss I could be wrong here, but I think it was cost and design delays. Basically, when the Starship came out, it was made of lots of different composite materials, very common on todays aeroplanes. Unfortunately, at the time, the FAA had no idea how to certify the plane, it was very unique, using carbon-fibre etc. Anyway, with the extreme cost of building, and the ridiculously long wait only 53 were built. Anyway, I think Beechcraft also bought them all back too... though I'm not 100%

For those of us who are pilots, and who know the stories behind the Starship as well as the 180, and who have flown them both, you can't compare the two aircraft from your arm chair. Until you've flown both, "you" really don't have any right to post comments about which aircraft is "better", because if "you" really knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't make such a vanilla comparison.
