@J V Bear in mind that early stage junior doctors are paid less but also still have enormous financial and human resources dedicated to training and progressing them up the chain and to far higher long term salaries in a way PAs do not.

First of all, you should not become a doctor for the money - eventually you will earn more, but as a junior doctor, you are in training and are paid a trainee salary accordingly. PAs are there to pick up the mundane, routine tasks that trickle down from the consultant's workload. These tasks have been increasingly pushed onto trainee doctors over the years, which is wrong. PAs are able to create a buffer so that junior doctors can actually focus on their traineeship, and consultants can focus on their consultancy role within the MDT. If you've ever worked in a team which has a PA, you would know this. It is an important job which I hope to see grow within the NHS.

@@michellenicole1831 This in incorrect. Out of hours, there is little direct supervision for doctors. They yyare operating, treating and anaesthetising alone at night yet earn less than PAs. You say doctors get to focus on training. This is incorrect. In this video, PAs are saying they have regular Ultrasound injection lists and outpatients. Many doctors have to fight to get this. Itts not fair. If one really wants to create a role to help the traininng of Drs, then you just need somone who can document , write discharge leters , do cannulas and take bloods. If those things were done, it would free up alot of time for them to do actual medicine.

Why does the abscess pathway only relieve pressures for the registrars? Why not the foundation Doctors and SHOs too ? Do PAs see themselves as equivalent to a foundation Dr or a SHO?

I have an upcoming 'values based' MSc PA interview. I am fairly sure what it means (interview based on 6 principles of the NHS). Please confirm I am on the right track and also what sort of questions will I be asked?.

AGE and PA MEDICINE: Really enjoying your docs. Do you think AGE would hold me back applying to be a PA? I agonise about this all the time. All I've ever wanted to be is a doctor but it has never been an option due to life. (things have changed RE opportunity, supporting family, student loans, etc). I'm 50 and work making science documentaries but I have a Biological Sciences Degree from Oxford, and a PhD in Human Evolution from from Cambridge. I made extra money as a phlebotomist at University, am a trained and experienced as a FREC5 medic and a practising CFR so have got my hands on plenty of patients. But I'm 50! Even though I still have over 20 years working ahead of me, I think the PA course was designed just for me and I'd love it. But is there any point chucking in my career to do something I would love for the sake of vocation and a lifelong dream at this point. Am I being naive and unrealistic. Give it to me real please.

I’m sorry but if I got seen by one of these pas and thought they were doctors I’d be so upset 😪 I’m trusting someone with a 5 year degree over someone someone with a 2 year degree any day periodt.

3 year undergraduate and 2 year MSc. This role that has been fully established in other countries. No they are Doctors but medical practitioners.

@@xXAnni3LuvsYhuXx In the UK that is not common. Most graduate doctors have 5 years of undergraduate experience. In addition many PAs will come from a background of care or science and therefore bring in potentially thousands more hours of experience. I think if you were needing medical attention that badly you wouldn't be fussy who took care of you so long as they did a good job right?

@@messedupprodution Doctors can't also bring in thousands of hours of experience? Post graduate medicine exists, and currently has more vacancies than any PA school. So on the basis of probabilities, you'd have a doctor that's not only brought in more experience from their undergrad, but also gone through a minimum of 4 years of medical training. PAs are a cheap way to try and artificially pump numbers up on the back of a national crisis, it's doomed to end in failure.

@@MistaKasko but are doctors who have done postgraduate medicine in the majority of graduates? No they're not. Also PAs are anything but cheap, hospitals rarely recieve any compensation for training PAs like they do with medical students. Considering the profession has been going strong for 60+ years in the USA and is continually growing (also voted the no.1 profession in the country) I beg to differ, but time will tell :) sounds like you're just a lil salty

Way too under qualified to be seeing patients
