According to Vietnam Immigration regulation, all visitors from foreign countries with a valid passport do not need a Vietnam visa if they stay in Phu Quoc for less than 30 days. Sound simple but there is much confusion on this regulation when it comes to practice.

1. I enter Phu Quoc Island with a layover in Tan Son Nhat International Airport and I will stay in Phu Quoc for less than 30 days. Am I exempted from Vietnam visa?
Yes. If you are taking a connecting flight in Tan Son Nhat airport and you do not leave the transit area. In that case, no Vietnam visa is required.
No. If you have to leave transit area in Tan Son Nhat airport, taking another flight to Phu Quoc Island. In that case you must have a valid Vietnam visa and you must get your Vietnam entry stamp at Tan Son Nhat airport.
It is highly recommended to check with your airline, to see if you have to leave the Immigration Area (also known as transit area) upon arriving in Tan Son Nhat International Airport or not to make sure that you can enjoy visa waiver for Phu Quoc Island.
2. My passport is expiring in 6 months, can I still get free visa for Phu Quoc Island?
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 month in order to get visa waive for Vietnam. You either must renew your passport or must apply for a regular Vietnam visa with your current passport in order to travel to Phu Quoc Island.
3. I’m planning to cross the river border from Laos to Vietnam, and then head to Phu Quoc. Am I exempted from Vietnam visa for Phu Quoc Island?
No, not possible. 30-day visa exemption to Phu Quoc is applied in case you go directly to Phu Quoc Island. You are at the land/river border means that you are in different parts of Vietnam, so Vietnam visa is required. Please arrange your Vietnam visa in advance.

6. I am currently in Phu Quoc with 30 days Phu Quoc Visa waive, I would like to visit Ho Chi Minh city and other places. May I apply for a Vietnam visa and travel from Phu Quoc Island?
A new Vietnam visa takes affect if you travel from another country to Vietnam only. It is not for you to travel from Phu Quoc Island to Vietnam.
7. I am currently in Phu Quoc with visa waive. How can I extend my stay here?
It is not possible to extend Vietnam visa if you are a tourist. You just must leave Vietnam by the time the current visa exemption finished.

    No direct flights from New Delhi both the flight is for ho Chi Minh or hanoi, so i have to come out from international terminal and re -enter into domestic terminal, so i need visa

    Yes but if you are travelling on the same airline, they may arrange the airline staff to escort you through transitting, in that case no Vietnam visa is needed. On the safe side, you can pay for evisa so no need to worry.

    It is not compulsory. However to be on the safe side, you can just make a reservation to show to the officer if required.
