I love Phronesis, but am I the only one who's noticed their output becoming decidedly more mellow and less well-structured since Life to Everything? Give me the bullock-busting, catchy, mathematical fury of earlier tracks, like Walking Dark, any day.

+George Pickering As much as I want to support everything Phronesis puts out, and laud them as the King Midas of contemporary jazz, and as much as I do enjoy the more textural sound they seem to be exploring on this track, I'm going to have to agree with you: it does feel like they're loosing some of that wild energy that Anton brought into the group, and that feels like a shame to me. I get that it's something most bands associate with evolution and the maturing of their sound, but I feel like it was always Anton's structured yet frenetic energy being navigated so effortlessly and lyrically by Neame's characteristic fluidity and naturalness which really made the band what it was, and gave their live shows such an exciting atmosphere of being right on the edge of out-of-control. I hope the rest of this record proves me wrong and shows that they haven't lost that tightrope-act feeling.

Yeah, both George and I posted these comments before the album had been released in it's entirety. Rest assured, I bought and love the album. =)

George Pickering I also must say, that I understand what you are saying and to some degree I agree, but I listened to them in Vienna live a couple of months ago and I must say that the gig was full of both things that you two commented on. I was a mixture of the intelligent creativity and Antons craziness shenanigans. It was truly wonderful :)
