Now you need to add to the no subs that Affinity will not steal your art content to repurpose it for whatever they wish like Adobe does nowadays with their change of their TOS.

I work for Marvel Comics and we across the board use PS, but now the lawyers are trying to figure out how this will affect the company since we have been using it for decades. Im shopping around while we figure this out. Its between Affinity and Clip Art Studio at the moment. Ive been wanting to ditch this sub for a while but its hard to find the right alternative.

yep just bought a copy of it after suggestion from another youtube user, have no idea how it works but similar enought to PS to get around. Thats 22 years of photoshop use down the drain.
Affinity Photo has the Deform Tool, which exists in Filters -> Distort -> Deform, or by adding the tool to the left toolbar in View -> Customise Tools... -> Deform Tool (a deformed orange circle icon in the lower section of the list). It can be a bit finicky if you are used to Puppet Warp, but you can get fairly similar results.
In Affinity Photo you can actually change number values like the font size by hovering over the field and scrolling the mouse wheel. If you press the shift key during scrolling the value is changed by 10 and if you press the Ctrl/Cmd key the value is changed by a tenth.

I’ve never tried that! Wow!
Affinity Photo really is a one-time payment. You don't have to subscribe to Affinity Photo like you have to with Adobe to be able to use only Photoshop. In addition, it is faster and consumes fewer resources than Adobe products. I was an Adobe user since 2010, but this year I made the transition for the benefit of my pocket to Affinity Photo since it has the same tools as PS, loads faster than PS no matter how big the project is and the saving and exporting time is more faster than Adobe

Oh my God as a professional having use Photoshop in the past affinity just blows it out of the water! It's just a matter of getting used to the tools that I'm used to using and then of course you have the manual to look up what you needed to do looking forward to using the software
I used to think clients would care of you use photoshop or not, but at the end of the day they only care about the results. But it's important to have on your resume that you can use adobe suite. I just don't see why I should pay so much on adobe anymore

Own nothing and be happy. I know people who have paid 1k a year just to use the software and in essence have purchased the software probably 4 times by now and still cant use it without internet verification.
You actually had the right tool up initially to curve the arrow. It's the deform tool. It starts as a regular box then as you grab each corner you'll see some fine tuning points that will help you adjust the arrow. and if you click and hold on the bounding box line you can create more points of articulation. I recently discovered this cool trick when I had to turn a flat image into a perspective concept for my sons bedroom walls. I was able to create "folds" in the image to line up with the walls in the concept sketch. Now I can use the image to give me an accurate idea of where to draw buildings to paint his room like Gotham City. I love Affinity Photo. I'm glad I finally made the switch. But there are some features that I do need a secondary bit of software for. I use Gimp for that and I really don't need anything else so far. It's really just a couple filters that in all honesty I could use a brush for if I really need them. For the most part Affinity Photo is a 1 to 1 conversion from Photoshop. You'll have very little learning curve.
Nicely done - right to the point, well scripted and BANG on makes the point without showing off. Thanks - ten minutes wells pent. JT
I agree. There's so many weird quirks where the Affinity suite methods are just like... 'What?'... "you do it that way?". I've had so many of those moments with it.
You can adjust the text height in Affinity by highlighting the number then scrolling the mouse wheel. Works the same for many other values throughout the Affinity suite
Content aware fill and spot healing tools only work up to 16bit in PS. Getting into creating my own HDRIs for 3D modelling recently I discovered that and at first couldn't find a way to stamp out the tripod from my 32bit HDRI or to fix other little issues with the stitching. Soon turned out that Affinity Photo2 has absolutely no problem with 32bit images and so far I like it very much. The price is a nobrainer of course.
3:30 To remove the hard edges I'd actually expanded the selection of about 6-10 pixels so the content aware would have taken care of the residual pixel from the lens, in my experience
To make arrows in Affinity, you can just use the Pen tool and change the ends of the line to arrow heads. Then curve the line

The problem is the latest Windows versions don't allow you to adjust UI text size for high resolution screens, which is a massive let down.
Per your comment about increasing/decreasing font size in Affinity, all you have to do is hover the cursor over the font size bar and use the scroll wheel.
Affinity really shines if you use it in iPad as well. I am a huge fan.
I found Affinity worked better on my old iMac (2019) than Adobe which was very slow. Super happy with the Affinity price tag too.
That puppet tool is SICK!!
you don't have to choose or enter the font size - just use the character panel and change the font size with the scroll as in photoshop
Hi there. What monitor are you using?
There is a lot of overlap, but there are differences. I’m not quitting on Adobe, but there are things I do frequently and prefer to use Affinity for, such as using LUTs, gradients and gradient maps for color grading - I prefer Affinity’s implementation. Also, Affinity’s Blend Ranges and range masking on layers is brilliant. However, PS works better with plugins, for printing, and RAW development (Affinity Develop is not on the same planet as Adobe Camera Raw).

That was really Cool start for me to Affinity Photo
You do have Develop persona in Affinity, similar to Camera Raw, it just doesn't open up if you drag the RAW file into another image, but it will open up the Develop Persona when you try to open the file separately
Im thinking about getting Affinity Photo but I’ve only ever used Photoshop. Is Affinity Photo’s tools and functions similar to Photoshop? Im concerned with how well I will be able to learn this software
I would have used making an arrow in affinity designer and then warp the arrow in affinity designer.. if you own affinity publisher, you start there with your photo. Via studio link you can access the photo tools and desiner tools in litterly a second. If you are used to the affinity work flow, the adobe workflow feels clunky and slow. I bought affinity 2 suite license for 120 euro when it was on sale. This was including the ipad apps.

You know, when I bought Affinity Photo and Designer, I assumed that the feature would naturally work where you could open up another program directly in the first. I was shocked when I realized the trick. It only works if you also buy Publisher. And then, you need to start in Publisher to move around between program even though you don't need Publisher for any of the work you're doing. It's just a trick to get you to spend money for an additional program that you don't need. It speaks volumes about Serif as a company.
Good Review, thank you
Affinity has something super special, there are 2 or 3 things I don't like but still a better program than photoshop and this is the price and the way that you OWN the program, the rest is on your creativity, if you can't make a curved line, make it square, squared or curved will point to the same direction or pay like a son of Bill Gates 😂😂😂😂

QUESTION: What is the deal with photoshop selling programs with 1T of storage etc?? My computer has begun flashing a message telling me my software is unlicensed. I have to buy something in the next day or so. I researched online thinking I'm going to have to pay monthly and read about the storage coming with the programs are for the edits....does that mean at some point in the future if I don't want to pay for photoshop or Lightroom that all of the changes I made in my photo library will become inaccessible? I had a license I bought a long time ago and it has worked fine until the latest required operating system upgrade. Even though my computer and photoshop were working amazing both had to be replaced. :(

I never used it either but I think it's very useful, I believe if you make any changes as a smart layer, you can adjust the values at any time rather than having to undo any changes and redo them
Which one did start incredibly fast ?
Affinity isn't offering a fully non-destructive workflow, it is limited to live filters, effects & adjustments available from the bottom of the layers panel. Any other filters, third party plugin effects are destructive & so require a workaround i.e. duplicate layer. In Photoshop you convert layer to smart object & then you have a fully non-destructive workflow. IMO, this is the biggest drawback with Affinity.

Mesh Warp tool does a fine job
@justrosy5
Жыл бұрын
Only if you know how to use it right. PS from CS2 (back in 2005) had the "warp" tool, and while the learning curve on that was steep, it did a great job once you knew how to use it right. Adobe sucks for moving to the subscription model. So does AutoDesk, but that's a different topic.
Thanks for the content man, much appreciated. I love affinity Photo and really want to switch over from PS, the one thing that bugs me is AP doesn't have a rotate canvas tool (while using pen tablet.) You can rotate the canvas with ALT + Mouse scrolling, but this is highly inefficient when using a tablet, switching back and forth. Photoshop just has you hit 'R' and you can rotate the canvas on a wheel until you let go, and continue painting. I really hope Affinity will add a rotate canvas feature in the future, then I'll switch over 100%!
No generative fill though or camera raw.
I tried to use Affinity Photo as a photoshop replacement but it wasn't practical for me because the industry standard document type is PSD and Affinity doesn't always render it correctly. I always had to open the same document in photoshop to check if it's correct and for that reason alone, you might as well just stick with photoshop. The gap is even bigger now with the generative fill tool, which I use all the time. The features are not equal at all.
Would of been better to click open in Affinity designer to make the arrow. Then switch back to Photo. Or just use pen tool to make a curved arrow.
Adobe has a frustrating subscription for professional developers who need a powerful tool. In 2023 Affinity is a good solution.

Capture One! I imported my Lightroom catalog with 105k photos into capture One and it kept the structure, collections, keywords, labels just fine. Unfortunately you will have to export your edited photos from Lightroom, and for me that took a while, but it was worth it to be free from Adobe’s ransomware. Perpetual license is $289.
You can warp the arrow just by clicking the mesh warp tool. It's the same as photoshop but you don't see all the little triangles. You just mark where you want it to move. I have used affinity photo for years now. It's so much better than Photoshop.
Oh I'm SO ditching photoshop
Like Creed 3 the small guy is hungry. It's time to have a real competition against the near monopoly Adobe.
I am very satisfied with Affinity photo and I am no longer paying loyalty fee to Adobe Photoshop, feeling free from such a subscription based. I started my journey when Photoshop was introduced and kept on using it until subscription model was introduced. Now, being with Affinity photo for more than a year and I don’t miss PS, in fact Affinity Photo is much more modern piece of photo editing software enables faster achievement rates and got a good supporting network.
Im going with affinity photo
Not to hurt your feelings, but I feel like this has not been a fair comparison, given that you were skilled in one software and not the other. As some others have pointed out, AP has the option to change numbers without manual input (i.e. mouse scroll). Same goes with that curved arrow. Both softwares had very similar options. But you knew of one, and not the other. You should have studied AP more before making this video. I was expecting more of a "feature" and "capability" comparison than to know about the difficulty of the learning curve involved with AP; and I believe I'm not alone. Thanks anyways.
exactly what i was looking for. a one-off payment. im so tired of subscriptions. its not even the money its keeping yrack of every subscription. time to cancel Adobe subscription.
Yeah, I am sick of monthly payments. Switching to Affinity asap!
Affinity looks better for freelancer artists coz photoshop is so expencive monthly payment...

Affinity Photo refers to image resolution in DPI, and Photoshop in PPI. Affinity is using incorrect terminology because DPI has no relevance to on-screen images. DPI is a term that applies to printers, and not to digital images. The interface in Affinity really should be corrected to say PPI.
Convert to curve that object..it better to edit..!
My question is , if you are concerned about the monthly fee from Adobe , why not just go with Adobe Photoshop elements . Pretty close and no monthly
What about AI features like inserting objects by simply typing stuff like “add a lake with a castle” bam! Affinity in painting is awesome. But they now just need the AI tools and it’s way better than PS.
this is the end for adobe 🙃
Adobe doesnt care about its customers or its so called "community." I prefer to invest in Affinity because they seem to actually care somewhat and their products are probably only going to get better.
Just do it. No point to pay subscription for Ps. Just wast off money
No, affinity does not have exactly the same features as Photoshop, some of it's features are different and more advanced
So, basically, you need *both* applications to do a really nice job on this project. You know, it would really help artists if all these graphic art, graphic design, and photo editing companies just worked together as one company, producing a far better product than any of them will ever create on their own.

It's a curious comment that you actually think that there is an equivalent tool in Affinity Photo for every tool in Photoshop.
@robsanta74
Жыл бұрын
Yeah. I mean... There isn't. You're right. There are a few gaps. However, the number of tools that they provide VS the ones that you'll actually use are two different things. I've been using Photoshop for about 32 years and Affinity Photo for about 4. I've done everything from web design to print work to game art, which is where the bulk of my work lies these days. While Photoshop continues to evolve, the bulk of its core functionality was set in stone ages ago. Everything else since has (more or less) been icing on the cake, QoL and creature comfort stuff. Honestly? If somebody can't get their work done with the 18 year old Photoshop CS2 (2005) then the problem is the artist, not the app. That 18 year old app is STILL super robust in what it offers. What it brought to the table is not inconsequential. One could easily argue that, while workarounds might be required for certain operations, even the 21 year old PS7 is still functionally quite capable. This is really why something like Gimp is used. It's not just that it's free; That's a bonus to be sure for some people. However, the real draw for this group is that it handily meets a certain minimum functionality. You CAN get work done with it if you're so inclined. Yeah. Affinity Photo isn't quite 1:1. Again, you're right. I won't argue that. It IS missing a few things that I'd rather it had. However, in practical terms, you can easily get the job done in Affinity Photo as well as you could in the 18 year old Photoshop CS2 which, as I said, was super robust. If somebody somehow finds themself at an impasse in Affinity Photo, I'd have to imagine that it's all on the user, not the app. Technique almost always trumps tool set. As the old saying goes, it's the poor craftsman who blames his tools. A direct decedent/continuation of Serif PhotoPlus, Affinity Photo has 30 years of R&D and implementation behind it. Along with PaintShop Pro, Serif's alternative has been happily chugging along since the early 90s. Gotta think that there's a good reason why. Personally, despite its lack of timeline functionality and artboards, I'm very happy with Affinity Photo. Despite being able to get sizable discount on Adobe's products (I have a family member who works there), I opt not to. Affinity Photo is absolutely capable... and then some. Just about everything I need and with ZERO subscription drama.
@KuttyJoe

@@robsanta74 Very interesting comments. Well, I'm no fan of subscriptions but I gotta get the work done and that is not remotely possible with anything Serif has made over the past 30 years. Serif make product for people who don't need what Adobe offers and don't want to pay for it. And that is great. The only problem is that Serif's deceitful marketing strategy nowadays is to cause people to think they are competing with Adobe and are going to eventually overtake Adobe, for a fraction of the cost. They are taking people's hopes and dreams straight to the bank. When people get beyond their home projects, they are going to find out that they need more than what Serif offers. People talk about making pdf documents from Serif products, but you'd be foolish to not check those documents in Adobe software to make sure that the are not garbled, mess with vectors replaced by low resolution images and other things before sending them anywhere to be output. Forget about working with spot colors and over prints and things like that. Serif is only dabbling in such things, as has always been the case. I would not trust Serif's software output without having Adobe software to check it.
