Photoshop Tutorial: Low Poly Portrait
Ойын-сауық
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make a low polygon effect in Adobe Photoshop. As mentioned in the video, it is not that hard to do, but it is a fairly slow process. However, the end result is really good, so it will be worth it.

I loved your tutorial so much, I tripped over the missing checkmark at "snap to" after I had finished the half of my portrait. I thought nobody could ever help me to fix this problem. Glad, I stumbled upon your tutorial again, thanks a lot!
This is really well done, very clear, much better than any other Low Poly Tutorial viewed so far, thanks so much for sharing!
Brilliant stuff! I've often wondered how this beautiful art is made :) Great vid!

I am amazed by the quality of this tutorial, your pronouncing makes it very immersive too. Thanks Creo.
Excellent job. thank you for explaining in clear easy to follow steps. other tutorials I have seen just show a very fast video of them doing it with no explanation of what is happening. Again thank you, I'm off to have a go now
I love your video! It helped me make my first low poly portrait! Keep up the good work!
Very cool! I did a project in Art class where we did this in Ai. It took me a lot longer as I used a 3/4 view that wasn't symmetrical. It was a lot more challenging but it turned out great, too. I used triangles and other polygons for mine. I am going to try yours for my next one. Thank you.
That's just WOW!!! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing skills! :)
That was awesome! Thanks for the step by step!
Perfect Tutorial! Super professional and ez to understand ;D keep it up... nice work

I think that you can speed up the effect production by using paths instead of lines and the lasso tool. Let me know what you think ;)

thanks it was really useful (y) =))
Thank you this was great. I have a little suggestion though. I couldn't understand what you were saying at sometimes (not critizing you it's perfectly natural). You should include subtitles, nobody else does it so you can gain a better advantage.
good. thank you
ok i got it! We need to use the blur tool to get the exact color of the image. If you want to get the color of the image but if you don't want to, you can just color it on your own way.
Thanks
thanks

Mekiyu Nguyễn As you can see at around 5:40, I select the helmet using the polygonal marquee tool (I'm using the grid do make an exact selection). When it has been selected, I pressed Cmd J (it's CTRL J if you're using windows) on my keyboard. This shortcut copies the selection to a new layer. Then I disabled/removed the other layers. Thanks :)

Could you make a tutorial on an image that isn't symmetrical? Excellent video btw

It's the same process... You'll just have to do polygons for the whole face instead of just one side.
@zoner281

Was wondering if I could apply the same process on a human model. I mean how about doing it on the hair?

Renzo Ricafort Just experiment so that your triangles aren't all the same colour (on the hair).
If you want to do this in Illustrator instead of Photoshop, I have a tutorial for that as well :)
cool

My lines dont have the little dots!? ANYTHING HERE!?
Is there away you can do this but with Squares? to make pixel art?

how to make an outline in a separate layer? (i mean how to set it?) Thank you..
If you get a search bar when you hit ' ctrl + f ' , use ' ctrl + alt + f ' If you want to change the shortcut then : edit > keyboard shortcuts > filter > Last Filter choose a shortcut your comfortable with
Creo I made the outline on separate paths but when I started making the triangles it kept going into 1 shape please reply and help
Is it possible to apply this same technique to fonts ??
Hi I am up to the step where you need to merge all of the layers, but whenever I try to drag the layer to highlight them it just drags that layer down, what do I do? P.S. I am on a macbook
How did you select all of the shapes at the same time?
Creo, for the adding triangles with colour, I used the marquee, pressed filter but the blur and all other options were grey - (I couldn't use it) Why is that??
Класно!!!
Pls help, when I'm doing step #3, it does make each line as a different layer but it doesnt show the nodes of each intersection. Instead it stays there like part of a drawing

that's why you use the grid rather than following the picture's lines

How can I snap one end of a line to an other in step 3, when I make the outline??
So I am doing this on photoshop CC, but when I try to fill in the truffles with the blurred color it doesn't do it. I tried using the shortcut and I also tried to do it manually, but there was no change in the color technique.
I have a question: when Im using the line tool and I change the thickness of it it won't change. Do anyone know why?
Omg so nis
sometimes there is little gaps between my triangles which reveal the image underneath, how to avoid or fix???
@stephlrideout

HDGAMERZ be more careful when you are drawing your triangles to snap to the grid/corners etc. If you still have gaps, paint them in.
what version of photoshop is this
Hey i've got a problem , on 4.10 I cant change my background to white. May i know is there other way i can do it? :( im using cs5 by the way.
@OfficialCreo
9 жыл бұрын
chin sue may The background doesn't have to be white; it's better to have the same color as the object that you're portraying (which is white in my case). Does the background of your photo have any color or is it transparent? If it's transparent, just create a new layer, put it below your photo, fill it with color (using either the paint bucket tool or 'Edit - Fill'), and merge that layer with the photo layer. If your photo has some color in the background and it is similar to the color of the object, you can leave it as it is. However, if your photo has a background that is not the same color as the object, remove the background with a selection tool (doesn't matter which one) and then follow the steps that I mentioned previously. Let me know if this helped.
I have no avarage blur??

Help. Cant find average blur tool. Windows user here. Thank you
I have ps cc and every time I try to apply the average blur filter to my selection, it calculates the average color of the whole picture and it is only possible to apply it to one triangle. Can anyone help me?
Photoshop for MAC please link
I can't complete the grid, everytime I try to add a new triangle the previous triangle I created disappears. what is going on?
