Hello Brooke , firstly I hope you are well and having a nice creative day . I went down the portraiture route some time ago and came to realise that finishing my work off in PS particularly dodging and burning to emphasise the light and shadow I already built into my work at point of capture made a huge difference so for a while I was quite happy with this until I felt I needed to be doing more and just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to go down the composite route now and what a wonderfully creative way to go . As an artist your art is the product of your endeavours but art is also an entity in its own right which feeds and grows ever more complex in how it communicates on influence, so my dear I hope you are overflowing with "feelgood" in the knowledge that you have influenced and fed art in such a huge way , thank you .

I absolutely love your photo. Thank you for all the great tips on using texture. I usually take hem off because I din't like them, but I think your idea of having them in black and white is a great idea. Thanks again.

Another technique I do,(and believe me I'm not breaking your chops because your work is breath taking) is adjust textures colors non destructively by using those same adjustments as a clipping mask. That way, you can change a ton of textures with a ton of colors on the fly, and pick what you like and there's no commitment with "dyeing" your texture. ;) just a thought and again, love your work!

I am such an huge fan of your work! I enjoy your tutorials, too, very much! It's kind of like peeking over the master's shoulder. LOL I wondered, as did others, I think, why you do not work non-destructively throughout? Just curious. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!! Su

Great information on textures. However, what you did at the beginning with the multiple images and preparation of the background was just as interesting and that gets skipped over so quickly there's no way to see what you did. Do you have another tutorial where that is explained?

  • @nadavy111

Thank you Brook for this explanation :) I wonder how much trouble will it be for you, I think the video would have been better with higher video quality, so to see more in detail the things you did - menus-wise I'm cool with it because I know PS, but might come in handy for someone else I like to make a color over texture by clipping a curves layer into the texture layer, because of the freedom it gives, also non-destructive and could be added for other pictures later dealing with textures , for me, could be tricky sometimes because of the masking could seems like a fake or added-on-PS, so I try not to get too crazy with it :) much inspiration all :)

You always make that look so simple, the I try it and get repetitive stress from hitting cntrl-z.

I would have given a thumbs up to this video if you started at the very beginning and showed how you got rid of the background.

She is using a layer mask. She is masking with a black color, so, if she is painting over the same piece with a white, it will bring hidden previously detailes back.
